    Proud owner of a 2011 CTS V Coupe and a 2023 CT4 V Blackwing. Best cars I've ever owned.

As a 15-year engineer and 16-year owner of a CTS-V1 and ATS-V with over 6000 hours wrenching on both cars, this video really misses the mark. This video is basically a bunch of marketing wank by people that had little to do with the design (except Jim, who wasn't allowed to really talk). I really wanted to hear from the engineering team and the drivers, not the managers that came after. It's clear that most of the people in the video are not genuine and don't know much about the cars. Quick quiz for the people in the video to see if they have driven the car: what color is the V1 DIC? A real discussion would've been like, what was it like to turn around a company on the verge of death, when the average age of the customer was 67 years old? Was there clarity of purpose, was it hard, did you have to fight the old way of thinking--what was the culture like? Specific to the car, who drove the decision to put a Pontiac Solstace differential in the car that could be shattered on a single launch on the way out of the dealership? Why did the car come equipped with the heaviest clutch ever put into a GM car (74 lbs vs. 58 lbs in every other car)? Why was the car essentially a composite of a half-dozen other GM and German cars (e.g. pulley and brackets, bushings and bearings from a half-dozen cars). Why was the steering wheel an inch larger in diameter and the rack ratio so high? Why was the interior made of Tupperwear? How much did Top Gear's criticisms initially hurt? These hard questions are pointed in nature, but they're not intended to give GM engineering or management a black eye; instead, it's clear (to your credit) that a lot of people at GM learned a lot of lessons from each of these criticisms which enabled the V2 and later cars to massively improve. Although I hate the looks of the 4th generation and a lot of V1, V2, and V3 owners do (Art & Science styling forever, please), a solid cross-section of enthusiasts and journalists now consider the CT4-V and CT5-V BW the best 4-door sports cars in the world. That's *really* what GM should be celebrating. I don't want to see you guys throw all that away in the name of EVs, or some kind of false notion that you should be able to demand top dollar like BMW and Mercedes when you've only just reached their level in 20 years. The V-series cars are the kind of cars that make guys want to be engineers when they grow up, and while they don't drive profit (the sales numbers on halo products always suck), they're the kind of challenges and passion projects that brings teams together and makes the job not just "a job"--achievements that you can look back at and be proud of at the end of your career. Do better!
