played this once and will be playing it again in verizon hall. unbelievable how this was early romanticism. the tone poem-esque nature of this piece is freaking outstanding on so many levels
I played this with Salford symphony with italian conductor. It was epic! I've never heard any recording where people played with such a spirit as we did. No wonder Brahms said he would have given all his symphonies for rhis one piece
Wow , wow and wow,! Exhilarating performance. Mendelssohn created a work of genius here. Never was nature so perfectly captured in such artistic beauty. Thanks so much for the score. :-)
I agree with you ... this is a song without words, a long singing narrative to the stark Scottish landscape that created such an impression on Mendelssohn it inspired this great masterpiece, which after 60 years I'm listening to with new ears. The color, the drama, the power -- and in the part you've pointed out-- the lonely clarinet solo singing, as if looking out upon the stark, bleak, but beautiful landscape, then joined by its companion in warmth. It's a uniquely human touch.
I've no background in music, but I do love looking at musical scores like this. Can anyone enlighten me what are the meaning of notations for violins II & violas at bat 15?

One is my favourite scores. This was A level music for me. First time I had to follow a full orchestral score.
Extra points if you are here cuz you loved playing this in orchestra ✨😱🎻
