  • It's a pretty darn gorgeous spring day in the Finger Lakes, so I take the kayak out.
I do some trolling with a metal lure and catch Salmon, Trout, and a "bonus" fish as well...

Hi. New subscriber here. Great video! Not sure what lake you are on (and you don't have to say), but I am going to Keuka next week with my wife. Does flat line trolling small crankbaits and spoons work there this time of year, or should we be targeting bass? We don't care what we catch. We just want some steady action. Any pointers would be super helpful!

Thanks Jared - I really appreciate that! I'm actually not very familiar with Keuka to be honest. But as June approaches Salmon and Trout might be starting to go deeper and trolling with down riggers or divers comes into play. Flat lining could be pretty hit or miss depending on the water temp. You're probably better off going after Smallies or Lakers.

What lake is this? Moving up near owasco and love trout/salmon. Would appreciate any recs you have for that type of fishin!

Thanks for watching! This is Cayuga. It can be relatively tough sometimes. Most important thing is to learn a bit about the rhythm of the fish, where they like to be different times of year. Spring and Fall are the best! I don't fish Owasco much but I do know they have a good population of Lakers there, those respond very well to vertical jigging generally.

Probably not the best idea to let fish flop on the deck like that if youre planning to release. Otherwise, great video.
