    I’ve been using a windbreaker with pockets sewn in for YEARS with all my electronics and heavy items and no airline can object to wearing my gear.
    Don’t use cheap plastic bags but rather use a heavier cloth bag ( mine are from various banks ) and I use it as a shopping bag since in most countries they charge for bags at the grocery stores

    Genius mate! After watching your video, I just ordered this cheap fishing vest from amazon as I have my flight to Brazil in a few weeks. I'm flying with Qatar and I'm only allowed 7 kilos and I have lots of camera equipment, plus batteries and accessories. Will wear a couple of shorts with pockets beneath my trousers, so hell yeah, extra pockets LOL.

    Very useful video indeed - thank you very much. I am about to travel to Thailand with Thai Airways. I'm not checking any luggage on board as I want to keep travelling simple. Carry on limit is a bit stingy but my main bag is bang on at 7kg - Smaller carry on item also bang on at 1.5kg. However I still have another 2kg of clothing I would like to take. Split into two well compressed 1kg bundles, they both fit into deep pockets on my jacket. Rest of pockets free for usual personal items. Should be no problem. Not confident enough yet for a fishing jacket. Nevertheless, awesome video.

    Your vest cracked me up dude, great tips. What I personally do is i take out all my packing cubes before going to the desk, usually I give them to friends or my girlfriend, and just take them back right after, it works well and it’s easy. Usually customs and security are not in the same area than the air company desk, so you can just leave stuff, get your boarding pass and get it back afterwards.
    Cool vid, see you on the road

    I once traveled with Wizz air (low cost like Ryan Air) traveling only with the personal Item as back pack.
    It was quechua backpack like the one in the vid but of 45 literes, i removed the metalic suspension and packed most of my clothes in one big bulk of something like 5 kilos and put inside with a pair of sportshoes, then i compressed the backpack and zipped it with my belt.
    It was summer but i was there aboarding with a raincoat and over it my light jacket with many double bags fullfiled with socks, chargers, etc. and the metellic suspension disguised in my shoulder.
    I made all the changes in the waiting room 🤣

    When you're in a poor country just get a tailor to make something out of an old raincoat. If it goes down to the knees you'll be able to carry an enormous amount of stuff. Heavy stuff. Heavy stuff should be high, around your shoulders. Light stuff on the bottom so it doesn't swing much when you walk.

    • @ModelInAVan
      @ModelInAVan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats a pretty great idea! Thanks for watching and the insightful comment

    • @FreshAirRules
      @FreshAirRules 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was wrong. You don't want a vest design. It would look odd and draw attention. Plus sleeves, if made out of thin material, don't take up much room when folded into a bag. Another idea: Add a sleeve on the back, from top to bottom so when you arrive at your stopover and have to sleep on a cold floor, maybe you can get some cardboard or bubblewrap from some stores to cushion/insulate you.
      Also if the top had a roll top extension when converted into a backpack that would be the best. Then it could expand to your needs while there. Sometimes we want to cart around some large items that aren't necessarily expensive, that we won't be bringing home. Its nice to be able to if needed while there. Roll top designs are absolutely the best. Zippers fail and that sucks when you're travelling. But before they fail, try lubricating the track with bar soap. Works surprisingly well. Most zippers fail when forced, when they're sticky and resisting movement. And bar soap is everywhere.

    Tie two or three colored ribbons of different lengths around the handle to your luggage to warn others that this is not their luggage. People grab luggage at the turnstile and take it home before you ever see it.
    Use a man’s “half windsor” knot for the best look.
    Anywhere you put your bag, it could be grabbed in error. Example: overhead compartment, unloaded from the bus, at the hotel lobby, turnstile........
    Use 3/4” wide ribbons about 12-14” long. Cut the ends at 45 degrees then seal the end with one drop of Super Glue to prevent fraying. If each ribbon is slightly a different length by 1/2” or so, they will all show no matter what. Tie the 3 ribbons as if it were one ribbon using a half Windsor knot.
    After it is tied on, the total length of the ribbons will be about 5-6” from the handle. A little longer ribbon shows up better. You can see it from 40 feet away.
    Perhaps tie two handles, top and side of case. Put your phone number on one ribbon using a permanent Sharpie.
    Choose one ribbon to have an unusual pattern or fabric to really make it unique.
    Lay all 3 ribbons on top of one another. Then tie them with a half Windsor knot, same as a man uses.
    Stand by the output hole of the turnstile to reduce the chance of someone else grabbing the piece.
    Tie your skiies, duffel bag, and what ever with matching ribbons-even your computer case.
    If you are a Travel Agent, you could gold stamp one ribbon with your name and phone number. Then send a set of two ribbons, red and blue to your customer as a gift. Record this gift in your database so you don’t duplicate yourself. Buy a gold hot embossing machine.

      LUGGAGE TIPS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15
      Tie three or four colored ribbons around the handle to your luggage to warn others that this is NOT THEIR luggage. People grab luggage at the turnstile and take it home before you ever see it. th-cam.com/video/q-gLsegazCs/w-d-xo.html
      Anywhere you put your bag, it could be grabbed in error. Example: overhead compartment, unloaded from the bus, at the hotel lobby, at the airport turnstile...
      th-cam.com/video/4NfX2W4DN7E/w-d-xo.html
      These ribbons make your luggage different and EASY TO SPOT when the piece is surrounded by 35 other cases unloaded from the bus. Using 4 ribbons make it immediately different than other cases with 1 ribbon.
      Use 1” wide ribbons 14” long and not longer. Cut the ends at 45 degrees.
      Tie to the base of the handle, tie to the metal buckle. Thus, it will not slip along the handle.
      Tie the ribbons as a sandwich, as if they were one ribbon. Use a man’s tie, a half Windsor knot for the best look. After it is tied on, the total length of the ribbons will be about 5 inches from the handle. This is too short to catch on anything such as rollers.
      Scissor cut trim the ribbons to cascading different lengths after they are tied. Put a drop of Super Glue at the end.
      If each ribbon is slightly a different length by 1/4” the color layers will all show up no matter how they drape.
      You can see these ribbons from 40 feet away.
      Perhaps tie TWO handles or RINGS top and side of the case.
      Tie using a HALF WINDSOR KNOT to the metal buckle ring of the handle.
      Learn Half Windsor knot tying:
      It is the 2nd example in this video
      th-cam.com/video/X0yh5rKB9lE/w-d-xo.html
      This knot does not loosen.
      Put your phone number on one ribbon using a fine point permanent Sharpie.
      Example: “Owner 454-333-7878”
      No personal name necessary.
      No address necessary on the ribbon.
      Choose one ribbon with an unusual pattern or fabric to really make it unique. The 4th ribbon could be black color.
      Stand by the output port of the turnstile to reduce the chance of someone else grabbing your piece.
      Tie your skiies, duffel bag, backpack and what ever else with matching ribbons-even your computer case.
      If you are a Travel Agent, you could hot gold stamp one ribbon with your name and phone number. Send them a set of ribbons, red and blue and BLACK to your customer as a gift. Record this gift in your database so you don’t duplicate yourself.
      Buy a gold hot embossing machine. Gold emboss your business name on the BLACK ribbon. Put the customer’s name on it if possible.
      Pleasant color combinations:
      Red, white and blue
      Chartreuse and purple and orange
      Orange and light blue
      Orange and yellow
      Gray and pink
      Green and yellow
      Red and Green
      Red and Gold
      Light blue and light green and white
      The 4th ribbon could be white, gray, black, tan
      Tip #2 PICTURE RECORD
      Take a cell phone picture of the ribbon tied on. Then another picture of the full luggage piece. Take a picture of the interior. You now have a way to communicate “what it looks like” if someone is tasked with searching for it.
      You can show this picture to the searcher or attach a picture to your report for lost luggage.
      Take this picture outside in direct sun not under neon lights.
      Tip #3 INSIDE IDENTITY
      Place a strip of colored duct tape on the inside lining to your case. Put TWO pieces in DIFFERENT places such as INSIDE a pocket to the case. If you dare, put your phone number DIRECTLY ON THE FABRIC Liner of the case WITHOUT USING TAPE. Or, put your name and phone number on this tape. If all identity is stripped from your case, you have this to show. If someone steals it and rips off identity tags, you can show the police officer the inside tape...
      To be sneaky about the tape, put your phone number on the STICKY side of the tape. Nothing is on the surface side of this tape.
      Tip #4 HIDDEN IDENTITY
      Put your phone number on a 2” x 1/2” piece of fabric or plastic sheet. Use colored Duct tape, such as black or red or neon, to tape this message to the top side of the handle. This message is under the tape hidden from view. The lettering does not touch the sticky part. Wrap it 2-3 times. Also include Tips 1,2,3 above. If you need to prove identity of the case, just unwrap it and show.
      Tip #5 ADDING UNIQUENESS
      Use 4 ribbons
      Add 1 designer ribbon
      colored duct taped handle
      Stencil SPRAY PAINT a 2” or smaller stencil letter or number or word or your initials to the suit case exterior surface in addition to using all the other ideas here. Stencil spray the BOTTOM OF THE CASE as well.
      Stencil spray paint a letter to the TOP ribbon.
      Use ribbons that are wider or more narrow than 1”.
      Put a travel sticker on the case.
      Tip #6 WEIGH YOUR OWN
      Scales accuracy varies at different airports. If you are even 1 pound over, you pay. So, regulate yourself. Found on Ebay, buy a
      HAND HELD DIGITAL SCALE
      It is less than $15.
      Tip #7 GPS TRACKING DEVICE
      Duct tape to an inside pocket a GSM GPS Tracking device. Find them on Ebay. Your iphone can tell you where your luggage is.
      Is it in another city? th-cam.com/video/qJkUSNIBsP0/w-d-xo.html
      HomingPIN tracker th-cam.com/video/V96ADrVzhys/w-d-xo.html
      Gego Tracker th-cam.com/video/EI0ARnEqq-w/w-d-xo.html
      Worldwide Tracker ...GSM, Wifi, Bluetooth
      USB rechargeable
      Tip #8 OLD TAGS, YOUR ITINERARY
      Remove old trip tags before you arrive at the airport. Remove confusion.
      Put a copy of your trip itinerary in an outside pocket so the agent can redirect the bag.
      Ask the travel agent to send you copies.
      Photograph all travel documents using your cell phone.
      Tip #9 FLIGHT SAFETY
      Put laptops, cameras and jewelry in your CARRY-ON. th-cam.com/video/fQLIwVXa3oU/w-d-xo.html
      Tip #10 LET LUGGAGE FOLLOW YOU
      Choose non stop flights.
      Choose connecting flights of at least 90 minutes so luggage has time to be transferred to the next plane.
      Compare white luggage destination tag city code to your itinerary for accuracy.
      Tip #11 TAKE SCREEN SHOTS OF THESE TIPS
      Then share them with your friends. Include the Tube Video seen here also.
      Tip #12 PHOTOGRAPH THIS
      Your travel plan
      Vaccine Passport
      Hotel confirmations handwritten by you.
      Your luggage, inside and out. Include unusual words spray paint stenciled on luggage by you. Show a close up of ribbon colors.
      Your destination luggage tag, bar code tag
      Receipts for payment of trip.
      If you lose paper versions, you have a backup.
      Passcode lock your cell phone in case it is lost.
      Tip #13 LUGGAGE DESTINATION TAG
      Check the accuracy of the white luggage tag code against your itinerary. You may be sending your luggage to the wrong city.

      Tip # 14 AVOID these in CHECKED baggage
      th-cam.com/video/oPPQzu84ahc/w-d-xo.html
      Tip #15 IF YOU SELL LUGGAGE
      Include a set of 3-4 ribbons, 14” long, with the sale. Consider tying them on for the customer. Sell an extra set for the hand carry piece.

    @michelemason1663 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Yes but when that bag with food goes through the X-ray machine they will see your hidden items and in Australia or UK you would have to remove that vest for X-ray machine as well. It will really depend on where in the world you are I think.

    • @rrafaelpaz
      @rrafaelpaz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      After the checking and before you passed xray you can just move whatever you have in the vest and place into the backpack that was already weighted by the airlines.

    • @ModelInAVan
      @ModelInAVan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah you have to move things around sometimes more than once depending on checking or security or boarding. Just know what they will be looking at and you can accommodate

    Smart idea, but I am wondering why people going through all this effort than having at least 1 checked-in baggage that is free? I only know that it is time consuming, extra work, extra pain when lost. But really if it all works well in terms of experience, you get your checked-in baggage upon arrival.
    I am noticing some airlines making carry-on weight limits even less, which is definitely killing passengers with the inconvienences.

    • @ModelInAVan
      @ModelInAVan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes for security you put everything through the scanner. They should be fine with you carrying many things. Tsa doesnt count your carry ons. Just the people at the gate and check in that may ask about your carry ons. Thanks for watching

  • @bocamax
    @bocamax ปีที่แล้ว

    @0:49 "If you can only get by with a carry on, you save tons of money in the long run". This is not true. The low cost carriers charge MORE for a carry on than for checked luggage. I know what you meant. You meant get by with a personal item. But what you said gives a completely wrong impression to the average viewer who maybe isn't a frequent flyer.

    • @ModelInAVan
      @ModelInAVan  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are very correct. I agree. I suppose I was using airlines with carry ons included and personal item. It's always an extra minimalism challenge to get by with just the personal item!
