Hey! So happy you showed some of those Ka-Zar interiors. I occasionally get a craving for some Savage Land adventures and thanks to this video I got several cool issue's to hunt now. Always appreciate your videos.
Still…the art in that Doom comic is soooo cool. You must be a nightmare customer the way you constantly update your pull list!!! Necromancy looks like cool art too. Your Superman space physics made me laugh!! Redcoat - I’m getting FOMO. Painted art in Uncanny Valley….I neeedd it. Joyce Carol Oates wrote a book where every chapter is the car crash with Ted Kennedy and a young lady who died. Your description of Ice Cream Man reminded me of that. Illustrated Think Piece - I like that genre!!! I have a bunch of those Ka-Zar but some that you showed I had as a kid and I got taken back!!! I love that character and I really liked the reboot.
Wow, that Oates book sounds cool. (though I am not into the baby boomer Kennedy obsession) There's some JG Ballard short stories that might also have influenced this issue of Ice Cream Man...but it's still pretty unique. By Ka-zar reboot, do you mean the one in the early 80s written by Bruce Jones, that was a stand out in my memory.
@@sleepyreader666 pretty sure that was the one. Bella’s I was a major villain and he had two honeys to choose from. Some of the covers were wraparounds.
I believe that is the last issue of Ka-Zar. I remember that it was pretty strong and well-liked at the end, with Doug Moench and Val Mayerick doing great work. It's possible it was cancelled because of Marvel's acquisition of Tarzan, which started a few months later. I remember reading something to that effect years ago. Dr. Doom is one of those characters that should be a great headliner, but is often compromised, as he was in Astonishing Tales, where they made him more of a protagonist fighting rebels instead of an evil mastermind. Super-Villain Team-Up was closer to what I wanted to see, but there they held back on the Sub-Mariner being a villain and just had the two feuding most of the time. I suppose if they'd really been a team, they would've just destroyed the world. Nice Steve Englehart run in the middle, though.
I think I missed out on that final end run by Moench and Mayerick, two creators I like a lot...so I look forward to reading them now. I do remember Marvel making a huge deal out of Tarzan when they got the franchise, so that makes sense that they ended Ka-zar at that point. Your points about Dr. Doom are very solid...it would be nice to have stories following him being a villain, just getting it from his point of view. I always loved the idea of Supervillain team up, but I don't know if it ever came close to my expectations.
That Ka-zar 12 looks like Kirby mostly to me, it's one of his patented floating head covers even though it's techinally connected to a body, covers. 😅😅
Lots of awesome artwork! I’ll check out Magma Comics! That issue looks cool. I love independent horror comics and movies. I got Diary of Dread by Phillip Russertt. Gonna read it soon. He owns a Suffolk NY comic con.
Wow! I'm really enjoying watching you flip thru every book, the artwork has got to be appreciated. I ask myself the same question, why some lead characters in books I relate to or sometimes I'm not feeling it.the writer has to convey something that I can connect or share with the hero.i don't want it to be forced .it seems recently the characters suffer from uniqueness because the writing is looking to stand out for doing something different.Red coat works for me so far,I'm very interested to see what happens to Mr.pure.,I get a good feeling from this book .I'm in with both feet. KA-ZAR !!! we go to the same gym..jungle gym 😁 I may have told you that already. FRANK GIACOA!!! OH!! I did the same thing Sunday I brought up a couple Conans from the 90s to look at.. thanks for another great vid brother
Hey hey Iggy...uh Higgy! The more I think about Red Coat (and look at the art) the more I am excited for more! When ever I see Frank Giacoa in the credits now, I hear you blasting out his name! heh heh. Searching through my Conan and barbarians boxes, I just wanted to sit down and look through every one of them...and there are so Many!!!
Good reviews. I see the Eisner Awards are out today. I haven't read thru them yet, but will shortly. Been reading Savage Sword of Conan, and Sixth Finger by Ram V.
Those are good choices to be reading Culture Fan. I haven't looked at the Eisner nominees yet...I usually don't pay a lot attention to those...but maybe I should.
Well...I read three issues of Ka-zar before bed...great art, but the scripts were pretty boring, to be honest. So there's some hit or miss with old comics too, heh. But value for money back issues in general win out.
Damian! Catching up on your videos, and you mentioned that in Ice Cream Man they dropped the ICM as a character at some point - do you recall when that shift occurred? I’m reading it in trade and am way behind, but curious. Thanks!
Hi Eric!! I was quite a while ago...around issue 20 perhaps? Just a guess. He started appearing less and less often...it seems it has become purely a short story anthology!
Sorry to be that guy, but it is Tony Fleecs (pronouned like "fleece: the woolly covering of a sheep or goat.") :D Don't block me, pleease. Always love a good countdown
Cool comics❤
Hello Tomi!!! Hope things are going well up North!
@@sleepyreader666 Things are going as planned 👍 Thank you. I hope the same for you.

I hope you enjoy a fun journey to the savage land, Jac.
Great reviews and observations as always. I'm enjoying the history element and historical figures of Red Coat.
Hey hey Brian! Yes, the history elements of Red Coat and the ways they are playfully warped are very cool.
Nice haul and reviews Damian! Enjoy your week!👍✌️
Hey hey, thanks Sean

You have a comic book storage space…. Who knew😂😂😂
I never mentioned it to you! So many secrets! ;)
It doubles as a sex dungeon!
I've enjoyed Kelly and Lanzing's work in the past, I should check out Principals of Necromancy. Totally agree with Redcoat. So entertaining.
Kelly and Lanzing are definitely following the beat of their own freaky drummer on this one.

It is a very Kirby pose. But line style seems all Romita to me.
Wha-hoo! I was right about something. That fills my quota for the month so I can spend the next ten days being wrong!
No pressure for the rest of the month

Diary of Dread! That's quite a title!!! I'll see if I stumble across that one! Cheers Max.
Happy further reading Mr. Sleepy😄😄
Thank you lady MG! I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on BZRKR this morning.

If you’re correct about the pay rates for modern artists, that’s truly disappointing
I have heard a number of people say that. I don't know if it's an exaggeration or only applies to certain people.
