I met chamillionaire in chicago downtown when i was either 20 or 21. The most humble down to earth superstar ive ever met. Had a cubs hat on and asked if it would be okay if he sign it he did. I have that hat hanging up in a case in my man cave.
I still jam that ultimate victory album I was mad we never got a chopped version. I always say universal fucked him having him release that album in Walmart the same week 50 and Kanye dropped their album. That was a setup
I still remember walking 45 minutes to this place we had in Memphis called “Spin Street” to buy that Ultimate Victory album. It’s definitely underrated as hell
I grew up in my formative years with cham in my tape deck from his beginnings and followed him ever since. I hve over 300 songs hes done on my ipod alone lol
He hated his deal, and would not release anymore music. He made more doing gigs also. And auditing. He waited out the contract. Until he was dropped. He then featured and went to work in more profitable industries. Leaving his hardcore fans
Cham was ahead of his time on those old swisha house tapes and spit straight 🔥🔥. And also before I seen how they looked I thought Paul Wall was the black guy and Chamillionaire was the white guy 😂😂
I remember buying sound of revenge a few of my homies loved it everybody else said it was wack. I still have this album with the brown bonus disk. Who wouldve thought the first rap album and artist i bought would blow up and join the tech world and make even more money.
Also I think he should have a LEGENDARY MIXTAPE RUN video, because for those of us in Texas we know his mixtapes very well. People also sleep on his first single “Turn It Up” which made his album go gold.
Chamillionaire was a victim of the Houston wave ending. The consumers were enamored with Texas culture for about 3 years and as a result several artists from Texas were able to blow up (Cham, Mike Jones, Slim Thug, Paul Wall) Once they were no longer new and hip they moved on to Atlanta artists. That's the music business and it will cause someone like Cham to lose his passion for the game and want to try something different. The average consumer has the attention span of a child when it come to artists that they support. Your die hards will support you through and through but it won't equal to huge album sales. Once an artist has sold over 500,000 records they have exceeded their core audience and ventured into the wave chasers and riders who will buy it because everybody else is. These are the ones who are not loyal and will move on to the next thing quickly.
Unless you’re from the north side of Houston - you really don’t understand how big the colour changing click were in the swisha house days. Personally after his major label move - he never was as good as when he was raw.
I’m from Alief I was one of the 1st cats jamming swishahouse 1st time I heard Cham n Paul was before the kappa 2000 freestyle off that Dr Dre track, I was on them since I tell boys u gotta catch the underground Koopa
I was 13 when sound of revenage dropped. Shit was fireee. I couldn't relate to none of it but sounded great!!!. One of the 1st melodic/ rap styles before drake.
Ultimate victory was a sleeper the label screwed him made him release the same week as Ye and 50 plus they had him put his albums in Walmart which is why there’s no cursing they played him but he got the ultimate victory in the Tech world, Koopa !!!
50 Cent threw him a lob by dissing him in an interview some time before Ultimate Victory released. Cham mentions it on a pod w/ Dame Dash that he ran across 50 and asked about the comments & 50 told him he should’ve taken the bait. Cham went from knowing “Controversy Sells” to being humble & protecting his image. It didn’t pay off in the mainstream but it did for his future endeavors.
Cham missed out on many hits because of al this but i see why he did it, its a shame because many of those earlier hits of collaborations of artist he missed out on. I think he won in the end though because he made so much money.
Much respect to Chamillionaire and being smart with his money

Pretty good. But, chamillitary therapy wasn't an official release. That was a fan made/bootleg tape.
I grew up on King Koopa, Man on Fire and Sound of Revenge.

Great video bro I don’t think it’s fair he’s called a one hit wonder either
Definitely not fair! I get he didn't have a record bigger than 'Ridin'' but like I said he did have other song that did well on the charts
Underground everyone was looking for they next flow and mixtapes. Def not a one hitter

7:47 that just goes to show that those label execs had no clue about the independent grind out there in Texas.
They think we are slow since we are from the south yet pur rapper are ceos bosses label owners and pioneers.

It was actually the week after Kanye & 50’s release. But I agree they definitely screwed him over. They knew what they were doing
