    Finally figured out how to subscribe! Am 84 year old technophobe. Been watching you for over a month. Have also watched others who critique. You are the best. What I have learned is so exciting. Have always loved music (am a piano player). With what I have learned I am now listening to all my favorites from the past 65 plus years! What a gift you have given me. No longer bored. Thank you.......

    I'm originally from England and I have to say I am so very very proud of Tom. Back in 1965 when when I was just a kid in England 2 very distinct voices started popping up on the radio. Everyone oohed and aaahed over them. They were Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck. Almost 60 years later Tom Ball is without a doubt in their league. He didn't win but yet he did ! If he includes this song on his first album I predict it will go platinum. Thanks for your great insight Peter.

    Got to admit, even as an amateur I can tell the moments he’s staying within his comfort zone. At the start. Very smart and he does it in a classy way.

    Just found Tom’s video- very enjoyable to listen to. First time to see a review by you. Thank you for breaking it down and giving us the pro’s perspective. As an amateur baritone voice, I always listen to tenors with such envy.

    • @shastanik
      @shastanik ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll never understand a baritone's envy of a tenor. I'm a female who loves the sound of a baritone and a bass voice, even for speaking. They're more masculine and definitely are more attract-ive to my feminine sensibilities. It's hard wired at a biological level.

In all these years I have never been able to read music. For the first time I actually understood your explanations. Great analyze! ❤️ Love how you show with your own voice what is special with his voice and technique.. I think you should also analyze his version of Creep by Radiohead from the same program. He is using a much darker and sadder side of his singing there.
    What you call the grit and edge in his voice is what makes him stand out and also makes him more approachable. Sometimes a high, sharp and clear voice can be kind of cool and distant for us listeners. But the grit, together with his theatrical singing style where he always is “living” the song makes the notes tremble not only in his chest, but also in the chest and heart of us listeners.
    When I hear him in this song, I think of these hard rock singers from the 70’s and the 80’s. The ones that sang power ballads hitting high notes with grit in their voices and sweeping us away emotionally.

    I was in a choir which had sang for Queen Elizabeth. Our music director is world famous. We had a concert coming up, and the other (assistant) music director, decided to put me in the base line. I explained to her, the only way I can sing bass is if I had a cold. Well, through the rehearsals, I could fit into the bass line. When the concerts came, I was over my slight cold and my voice returned to normal. After the concert, I got heck from members of the bass line for being in the bass line. "You should be in the tenor section." I agreed. Nonetheless, I had audience members come up to me after the concert to tell me what a beautiful voice I had. Not all music directors make good decisions. Why the main music director never said anything to the assistant director, I will never know. Being you are in the bass line I had to share that little story.

    You probably want to listen to his other performances for AGT. I love his voice. Will be waiting for future performances. His diction is also very impressive. Just found you and will be back.
