Hey guys! This was a tough day for us, one we will never forget. Funny how one quick decision can change everything. We were really lucky and got the best help we could think of. Regarding the comments about how a winch would have helped, we have to disappoint you. In this scenario a winch on our Landy would not have helped as pulling from the front had the high risk of flipping the car to the ditch (we were tugged against the bridge). We could only rescue the Landy from the back (this was also the assessment of the rescue team that knew the broken bridge). That being said, another car with a winch, that would have been ideal, but we were lonely wolves here 😔
Not to beat a wounded animal but it’s about lack of experience. This is exactly what got you into that mess but you guys remained calm. It’s a great experience especially that no human life was lost and your car was salvaged. Remember that one can have a rear winch too but I’m sure you will never take risks like that ever again. Hope the trip was worth it further
Hi guys, just a quick one: do not even hesitate de drain all oils into a clean pan and check for water presence. Your car has been emerged in water for hours. As simple as that especially in a Defender, prone to leaks. Not checking the oil could be as big a mistake than not walking the flooded track. Trust me from experience, happy driving, cheers, Martin
Hey Martin, we changed axle oils cause I know the rear axle always gets water. We opened transmission and the oils looked clean and it was not more oil/water inside than before. Surprisingly transmission and transfer box of the Bluelandy are dry, even if they have oil inside. Anyway thanks for the hind, appreciate it!
Yeah, never, ever put your guard down and avoid doing proper preparations, doesn't matter the km Offroad and experience. The guys from Yapeyú, those were our guardian angels!
Thank you for sharing that experience. It was certaily not easy to think about videos while facing such an event. We can see how much a defender is resilient. It is one of best vehicle for travels. But on the other side, you have been a bit lucky, after your mistake, not to have the water on the other side of the car, with the ecu and the air filter. It looks like somebody is keeping an eye on you, to transform lessons in experience for you. I am sure that you learned a lot about it. Enjoy your travel, very rich in events and people solidarity.
It was not so easy yeah. Specially as we were trying to don't damage more gear , as we were seeing our money flying away at that right moment 💸💸💸 that's why we run out or battery, we were not considering that... And many moments like me running and screaming for help are not on camera, that was the last thing I was thinking on. I didn't even consider taking shoes and I ended up the whole time up until late, barefoot. In that moment you really concentrate on a few things at a time. We were lucky in many ways, but also planned the interior well, as none of our electronics and electrics got close to the water, they are all up. And yes we did learn our lesson, and answering to you, we had many other events after that, but nothing as serious ✌️😎
That was soooooo close. Dangerously close. We were incredibly lucky, how it happened and how fast we got help. If we had sank the right side, it would have been completely different story, starting with a ruined ECU and damaged fridge. But other design decisions paid off big time, like putting our electric system and all electronics the highest possible (left side), and using encapsulated batteries.
That was a bit of a bugger ! So great of all who helped to get you on the road again. Was holding all my thumbs when you pushed the Landy down that short hill to start it !In the end all worked out and you can continue. Great episode even with the mishap ! Best further and enjoy !!
Hey Henry! Yeah, it was tough, but taught us a lesson, doesn't matter the km of experience, never, ever get lazy ! Thanks to the hill we were back on the road pretty quickly. But our batteries and not in so good shape 😭
Absolutely made a huge difference to have Karsten there. We were extra efficient about every single movement. From saving our gear, to fixing the car to trees, to logistically help us everytime we got in and out of the water and were getting cold. It would have been completely different with the two of us! So grateful for that as well 🥺
Oh boy, what a catastrophe! Having said that, it’s not at all uncommon to get stuck with a 4x4 - many of us have found ourselves well and truly stuck and in difficult circumstances. In this case, the water sure complicated things and you lost the daylight, but you all seem to have remained fairly calm and you did all the right things to save Bluelandy. Poor Irati having to run out to find help! Good thing she has the best Spanish!! Bravo to people who came to help you. And also Bravo to Bluelandy. People can say what they want about Series/Defenders, very very few cars could tolerate what Bluelandy went through and not be totally destroyed. New cars have too much electronics and microchips to tolerate water. And finally, those mozzie bites were terrible but at least no crocodiles in that water, thankfully!!! 😂
You made the best summary of the video 💯. The time of the day and the fact that a storm was coming complicated everything. The firebrigade was close to let the car there for the night! Something that we wanted to avoid at all cost, as with more rain, the Landy would have most probably fall completely to the ditch/flipped and then we would be in another completely different scenario...we were really proactive and taking all measures to minimize as much as possible the damage. And yes I was running those dirt tracks like a mad woman, completely wet and screaming for help. Without Spanish this would not have been so "smooth". The blue landy is incredible, I don't care about what others think, with our Landy all the Way! And guess what that area had caymans, but most probably they didn't want to join the drama. 😱
@@Thebluelandy Glad you three + Bluelandy are all Ok. A few months from now you will all be laughing about this and it will be a story to tell other overlanders at the campfire!! 🤣
Way cool video, YES ALWAYS WALK IT.. I have always walked river crossings But seeing this lesson, reminds me not to get lazy. It can ruin your trip as you said.. Add Crocs, makes it even more fun..I love the power and sound of the td5, my tdi200 110 is slow compared, But it is sinkable 😁
Hey Michael, you are so right, always walk it…. I love the TD5, it is a good engine. No problems with heat, water or altitude. I was skeptical but it always works. I took some effort to get it dry but ever since it’s not using any oil 🤩
The people from Yapeyú are absolutely amazing, they were our saviors! With some experience, shock and feeling like a team. Let's continue and have more adventures 🕺🕺💃
So glad you got out of this "mit einem blauen Auge"! Several guardian angels watching over you and Blue Landy, with so many fortunate coincidences! All the best! xx
Yes, we worked hard and very fast to find help and save the car, and we were gifted with some amazing help from Yapeyú. That nearly anything broke, it's kind of a miracle...
Wow ... the joys of mosquitoes. They cause all sorts of trouble but I'll be sure to spray on some deet and walk it rather than experience that nightmare you went through. Well done to the wonderful people who got you out and well done for carrying on when many would have thrown in the towel!
Yeah, that would have been the smart move... We were stupidly lazy 🤦but when we were down, there was no time too loose and went straight into rescue mode! The people from Yapeyú were our guardian angels. Absolute legends!
Without the great help of the locals we would be toast. Really glad they helped even Vater night falls. We will be carful but we’re still looking for adventures 😬
It was and very tough day, and we were able to capture some of the drama we experienced. We learn many things about making decisions and about ourselves. I guess it is like that in all adventures
It was really tough! We don't 🤗 everybody made some bad calls in this trip, nobody is perfect. But what is important is not matter who did it , everybody always help to solve it . Team work for the win! 💪
Hats off to the three of yous. Remained calm and collected and grateful you found the help needed and the little luck on your side to not be caught up in a storm whilst submerged. A very informative video thanks for sharing this because I too many a time have been lazy to walk a crossing. But your experience was a wake up call. Carry on stronger now.
We really worked great as a team, and in general being three helped a lot getting things done quickly. It will not be the last time we have to work hard as a team (wait a couple of weeks) For us, we have walked them many times in Africa, and out of laziness and over confidence we decided not to, dumb. Happy that others avoid the issue after watching our video. Stay safe and not dumb! 🤗🤣
Wow! I’m so glad you found help and were able to recover The Blue Landy. It looks like the interior survived well, I don’t think mine would have! What a nightmare but also something you’ll never forget. It’s definitely made me realise how important it is to check a water crossing by foot first. Great video. Happy travels.
We worked really hard to solve the situation and were extremely lucky for the help we got. Without them we would be still waiting. The interior we built is great and durable, the coating is waterproof and connections in aluminium. But the key feature is that we can put it out to clean. 👏👏👏
It was reeeeally tough and we work hard to save the Landy. But we were extremely lucky with how we sank the car and also the incredible help we received from the town of Yapeyú.
Glad you guys came out ok in the end! No matter how much one does right on long road trips, it all goes wrong very quickly. And let's appreciate that it started as if nothing had happened! Love Defenders!
I'm really sorry about your unfortunate situation. However you are on the road again, thank goodness the ecu was under the passenger seat...! Good luck going forward
It was a really tough situation and yes, we were freaking lucky that we sank the "right side" of the car. Otherwise we would still be around Yapeyú waiting for an ECU. ⏲️ We are back on the road and creating more memories. 😍
A wise man once said always scout your route but you know that, nothing worse than watching water rising up the front of the vehicle, but you all survived if a little wet.❤
Yeah, we know that well, but forgot it that day 😭that was an scary feeling, seeing more and more water rising and suddenly the car sliding to the side 🤯 learnt the hard way. But luck was on our side. 🤞
It was really scary and our adrenaline didn't go down until two days later from the shock. But thanks to that we didn't loose anything else to the incident.
It's not your fault the water wasn't deep. A pedestrian would walk through without difficulty. Only the road was not seen and you went off the embankment. It happened to my friends too. That's why I always stick a bar in as a marker so I know where to go. Take care and a successful recovery. Landy can handle it, she's a fighter.
Yes, that was also part of the problem, that it looked easy. Checking it before is the way to go, and we have done it always until this dramatic day. The blue landy is a beast, would not have liked to sink another car 🤣
In days gone by, a person would walk or wade in front of a vehicle, if it gets too deep stop and reverse with the person behind. That would have been a good idea here. No doubt you will not be doing that again. You never know where a ditch is in water. You were very lucky to have people to help you. Pleased you are cleaning and drying everything with no damage. Stay safe.
Yeah, overconfidence is a bad, bad thing. We walked many rivers in the past (check videos in Namibia) and found them too dangerous to drive. Clearly we put our guards down and got lazy, this is a reminder to never ever do that... We worked hard to get help and convince them to help us during the night, before any storm would hit us. Spanish helped with the convincing. They were extremely nice and understanding and knew about this broken bridge so could help us in record time. And regarding the car , it is a beast! So glad we drive this LR! Thank for watching and commenting, really appreciated 🤗🤗🤗
Yeah , that was a close call for the Landy. We were in shock for a couple of days after that 😵😵😵 we can talk about it now, and joke aboutge the things that happened in between, like the pants from Kai ripping off and not realizing until the next day. The crazy mosquitos bites we got, and many more things.
as gently as possible and as quickly as necessary. “when in doubt, mud it out ” is just a joke! A successful imprudence compromises the intelligence of courage but it doesn´t work everytime🙄 Anyway thank you for this reminder of bad hyper confidence we all could have in a Defender. Have a nice and safe trip!
It was really a tough day for everybody. We worked hard to solve it and were gifted with some amazing help from Yapeyú. We will never forget this day and this town. 😱

Its amazing to see how "cool" you stay after such a traumatic experience and event. I once lay my Landy on the side and my knees were shaking and I thought that's the end of it. At the end I could use my Sandboards I screwed to the Landy the night before right away for the first time and got away without any scratches. It is great so see this from the Sofa and thank you for sharing all your adventures. It helps the working population to keep working, save money and like you guys - start driving. I am not afraid of starting the trip - rather of coming back and being unable to get back to a boring 8-5 life and missing the freedom of traveling too much. Regarding your post of the advertising: Yes, TH-cam adverts can be annoying, but I hope you get some cashback on the Videos - which are somehow paid by the adverts. So in case of skipping, I am happy to let them run, if you get any dime cashback on top, because we let it run through. We wish you a great journey ahead - eagerly waiting every week to see the Bluelandy post in TH-cam. There are just not enough TH-cam channels like yours, to fill the weekend. Have a safe yourney ahead and thank you for convincing my wife to walk the rivers now every time (I don't like crocodiles very much).
Hey Thomas, I can tell you I was everything else than „cool“ that was a pretty desperate situation. Great story of yours as well, in the end all those incidents make a great story. But going through them can be tough! Yeah the ads are annoying, we appreciate letting them play. As fare a we understand the YT policy it helps with the money we get back. Thank anyways!
Sorry to disappoint, still no winch planned! In this case also a winch would not have helped as we could only pull from the back of the car. Pulling from the front was too risky as we were tugged against the bridge and could flip the whole Landy into the ditch. That's why also the rescue team had to come from the back side to pull us out. Another car with a winch, that would have been freaking amazing, we would be out in no time. 🙈
Very sorry to see your dramatic event unfold. You might check out a youtube video entitled something like “winching backwards from the front of a vehicle”…interesting video, i think it might have saved you? I recently put the 12,000 lb Badlands winch on my Jeep Gladiator. It is an excellent buy and weighs in at 80lbs. 1/2 the weight of an extra passenger, but can pull sooo much more (-; Great video content and great work you guys!!!
Oh dear 😳 So glad it turned out well for you. At 26:26 I thought "oh, no, not down there and roll into the river" 😬🤪 - Alles Gute für die weitere Reise! Tolle Videos immer. Danke!
Well done for recovering from a stressful situation. I would just say that when you are doing the maintenance with the high lift jack please consider putting the wheel you have taken off and slide it under the axle for some insurance,if the car slips of the high lift.
Yeap, it was tough and we were lucky in many ways. And yes, normally I would put the tire below for safety. Thank you for your comment. See you around!!
Omg, I would have been the same telling everyone what to do. We also lost our truck in Kahuku National Park due to another camper starting a bush fire. Our trucks are more than cars. They are our homes as we travel. Keep safe, team cheers Rolanda Travellers Nest Overland
Wow, that is very unfortunate, so sorry to hear about that. They are indeed part of the family and need to be taken care of, so they can keep on giving us epic adventures. Thank you for watching and see you around 😎
Wow know that sinking filling of oh why did I not walk that . Been there done that . But have found that a hand winch with a 20 ft cable works wonders .can be used any were ,back front ,side . And with your other gear . Have used it more than my winch . And is very helpful for helping others out to . Clad you made it out with only little damage . Thanks again for sharing your wonderful travel adventures even the misfortunes along the way . And all most all locals like to help out and some times be come life long friends . Cheers to another great video again you two . From Steve Stott in Sutherlin Oregon U.S.A. :) :) :) 🌎🍻👍🏼😁.
That filling ufff, we know that yeap. A hand winch sounds like a good in between solution. We still are not considering one as we really don't have more space in our Landy.😱 For the moment better assessment might be our solution 😜 yeah the damage was minimal for what it could have been. Glad you are sticking around, also for the misfortunes, from here it gets a bit more positive and fun 😊
Hey, we want to be in Ushuaia around Christmas. And drive up the west cost until Columbia until mid 2024. Just text us on Instagram when you are in South America and maybe we will cross paths 😉
Hi guys. That must have been a very difficult day for you all. I guess with distance now it is clear you were very luck and you had the experience to stop before it got any worse. In life i have a simple motto, no matter how bad it is, it can always always get worse. Its how how you deal with the difficult situations that makes the difference. You guys got through this and it will be a funny story- one day.
It was really tough. But I guess previous situations helped being partially prepared for it. This is a good motto, for me I always say: expect the best, prepare for the worst. This helps being open to what might happen and don't freeze, and staying positive at the same time. We are already talk about some funny parts at the moment, but there is still some shock in us I guess. 😵
Ha..yep the ones that are the same size as a 1959 morris mini…well actually now I think about it, they are slightly larger than the series Land Rover which were the same size…that..ahem.. was designed in 1948.🫣..who cares, still loved it, ..them…those..can’t remember I’ve had a few..it’s a landrover for Gods sake. Lucky escape.!
I off-road in Colorado…everybody wants to drive through water. NEVER drive through water…unless you have to. Water is a car killer. You were very lucky….
You are right it was not the last resort… we thought it can avoid a 30min detour. In the end the shortcut turned out to be 47,5 h longer then the detour 😅
😉 Gute Fahrt! Roger-T. (Den alten Spruch kennt Ihr vielleicht: It's never over in L-Rover! 😇 )
Pheew! Happy u okay and all turned out well. But i just feel not enuf gratitude to backhoe driver, prefecture guy, fire brigade n village ppl who all rescued your car and your livelihood. You should've shown a glimpse of them on video. Instead after the whole village was mobilized in middle of nite to help rescue you from disaster, you then quickly go back to your car, equipment, clothes, heater, ecu, and cleaning n drying up without anymore mention of the ppl that saved you. The battery not starting again was a reminder to you to remember to be genuinely thankful for ppl who help you along the way, and always remember to pay it forward. I think lesson for your video should instead be: be thankful for all good things that come your way whether big or small, and always pay it forward. Happy travels n thank you for video.
Exactly Pheew! Thank you for your comment , it's important to clarify this! We recorded some parts of what happened and absolutely not all. We were at the house of the prefectura (where packed the things back) and gave all our gratitude to them and everybody involved. We shared our contacts with everybody to stay connected in the next days and they knew where we stayed (camping).A good reminder, not everything makes it to TH-cam, but that's doesn't mean it didn't happen. Also, people are there to rescue not to be filmed and end up in TH-cam. This is not a documentary. We are grateful for the help we got and we will always remember the people from Yapeyú that helped us recover our car in such a fast way. Thank you for watching and mentioning this topic, it's extremely important 🙏🙏🙏
@@Thebluelandy If you Google land Rover Max water depth you'll see stickers from various sites. Maybe get a company that specializes in vinyl sign designs they could do one up for you 😉 Andrew
This is one of those things where you think "how did we end up in this, we know better!" ... good think you made it out without major damage except hurt pride. And yes, get a winch. ;)
That's more or less what we were thinking yeap 🙈 we were lucky bastards. Pride is ok actually, I guess it's normal to do some stupid stuff sometimes, one need to live with it. 😜 no winch in sight for the moment.
Best recovery tool is a 10-15 ton come-a-long and extra rope. Winch is fine for as long as a engine runs and the batteries last. Once that stop, you done. Nothing can go wrong on a come-a long. The little bi9 of weight is nothing compared to a winch and it do not take a lot of space.
That sounds like a really good solution in between. We did use the HLift jack this way to pull and secure one of the straps (not in video). But not as strong as you mention (15ton). We still find it too bulky though, we really cannot fit more in our Landy 😭
Hey, dann mal willkommen!
Hey!! Yeah ,the moment we tried backwards and didn't work we stopped everything, disconnected the aux power and started rescue mode. Including saving our valuables, fixing the car and getting help, ASAP.
Happy to hear it this way! For us it was a clear overconfidence problem and stupid , specially after walking so many rivers in Africa. I guess there is always a time for a lesson. The shunt we will replace it in a couple of months and the pants, Kai can live without them. Mosquitos, we still have the scars 😱
Hey Justin, There are several reasons, weight is your biggest enemy off-roading and traveling. Carrying two winches with you to use them 1 or 2 times during the hole tip is overkill in my mind. Plus spending the extra money would probably eat up the budget for 2-3 months traveling. I might would get a winch for a offroad truck, or a farm-work truck but not on an overland truck.
Wow....that is a nightmare and veryerry stressful....been in a similar situation. Was in a river that was rising. Barely got it out in time by fellow wheelers....I bought a good winch and extra rope....be careful and safe....it was stressful to watch from my couch. When do you plan to visit USA?
Wow to your story! 🤯 thankfully the water in our path was not rising! A winch would not have helped us here as the rescue needed to be done from the back. A hand winch like they recommend in other comments would have saved us and for sure the best would have been traveling with another car to pull us out. We don't think we will make it to USA, money will most probably run out in Colombia 😭
Hey, I got stuck in many places, and I never had a recovery point where I could have attached a winch. If you have a second car with you a winch is great, but if you are alone it’s just a lot of money and weight that you add to the car. In this case a winch would not have helped either.
So glad you guys continue... Was I the only one shouting "walk it walk it..."😅 Been there such because I didn't walk it... Now I walk every puddle lol...
Yeah, walk it walk it, we thought about it and erased those thoughts pretty quickly. Damn it. Now we can remember the story ,but it could have ended our South America trip. 😮
Trouble is, nobody(?) IS deliberately careless in sketchy situations. It's the situations you DON'T think are sketchy, until you have an accident, that'll get you every time. Almost EVERY flooded track is "sketchy" because, if you can't see the edge of the track under the water, you risk driving off the track and into soft ground.
You are absolutely right! It was careless decision, specially when we have walked so many rivers int he past, where we found irregular and unstable ground and decided not to drive. I guess one needs to be dumb sometimes to get a wake up call. Happy to have recorded it so others can learn from our mistakes! 🤗
Another great episode from Blue Landy....just as well you had a fluent Spanish speaker with you!. Dont weigh yourselves down with a winch....they are rarely used and with some foresight you can avoid having to use one. Just as well its off season for anaconda attacks as we could have been reading about you on DW!. Please exercise more caution further down the Argentinian coasts where Orcas chase seals up the beach..... The sign of a good camera operator.....they keep filming when the temptation is to quit while the problem is still ongoing. (Please consider alerting appropriate American websites which could help your subs)
Thank you Bert!! Talking Spanish was really life saver here. It would have been really difficult to control the situation without it. We had to negotiate with the prefectura, then with the firebrigade so they would help us in the dark at all cost (as soon as possible) but many other things, like how to rescue the car, where not to pull (roof). Yeap Spanish was indeed important. For the moment we haven't missed the winch, so not getting one soon. But we have to admit that driving with another car would make things less risky. Anacondas no idea, but the area has caymans 😱 Regarding the Orcas, can we kayak there?? 🤔🤣 And regarding the websites, feel free to post us on the forums, about "what not to do" 🤣🤣🤣
nearly the end od the Landy, maybe invest is a battery boost jump start, they are small and powerful and abt 99 dollars, good luck, I wish i had a defender as a second car I have a 2015 SDV6 A powerful tow car my first was a series one 1957 had that in 169, then a series three then a td5 disco 2, which was great, the series three broke the long rear axle often
We didn't need it untill now, hills helped usually. There was actually one time we tried one, check the previous episode, where our battery was dead. The Land Cruiser had one and we used it, but the battery was so dead (3V) that it was not enough! Pushing and pulling with another car will still be our way to go in the future. Wow that sounds like a great collection of cars you had there. We love the Series LR and we are still dreaming about getting one at one point (one we can afford and with no rust 🙈)
@@Thebluelandy They are not rusty in Australia and that is the truth I think they are very bad in places like England with assault on the roads thank you for replying we will keep in touch
I have watched a lot of your videos, and for the first time I noticed that you have a Swiss motorway vignette sticker on your windscreen. At some point, you may have driven very close to where I live
Hey Antoine, we went trough Swiss several times mostly Basel - Genf, I also have friends in Zürich. In this trip in particular we skip Swiss and went through Austria. 😉 where are you located
Hey Philip, Normally I don’t use diff lock and low gears on a road, not sure what you do. The problem clearly was that the road had a bridge that was off center to the right. If we would have walked it there’s a chance that we would have realized that, not 100% sure about that… . Missing the bridge with one tire caused the car to slide down and off the road.
This is the first time I’ve commented on TH-cam, your adventure is amazing one of the best I’ve seen. Having traveled by TD5 Defender through most of Europe ,Namibia and SA I’m very envious of your trip. Looks like you were amazingly lucky on this episode as you said if had been right hand side in the water the ECU would have been submerged and the air intake unless completely sealed would have taken in water. Do you not have a spare ECU?
Hey Rob, congratulations to your first comment, I’m glad I can be the one that writes your first answer. Thank you so much it’s nice too hear that you have fun with the videos! We were lucky that’s true. The air intake is completely sealed that’s not a problem. The ECU would have been. We don’t have a spare TD5 ECUs are rare and really expensive. And I would not know where to put it 😅
Hey, only a winch in the back of the car could have done anything. A winch in the front would have flipped the car due to the bridge infront of the car
Are you sure you don't need to replace the batteries? My car was left parked for three months without driving. The battery is 5 years old battery. The battery got damaged. Even after fully charging, it would drop and rest at 7v or 8v. Now we see that your batteries are struggling to start the vehicle. You don't want to be in that situation in a location where you can't push or without a portable car jump pack. That was a crazy adventure. Good to see that you're back on the rd.
Hey Nicholas, no the Battery’s are fine. We got AGM battery’s they can Handel more misuse than normal lead acid batteries. We’re already using the 3 months since this incident and they are doing fine,I believe they only have roughly 75% of their original capacity but that’s still fine. It shows that buying a quality product pays off in the end. Also having the solar on the roof helps to keep the battery healthy and happy
Hey Jack, with or without a winch would not have made a difference in this situation. And in 10 year I had only one situation where a winch would have helped. And I made it out without 😉
This was a time to return to the old Land Rover school of driving rules. Take all the safety considerations AFTER driving over the terrain (wet or dry). Protect the vehicle, and consequently, do not put the occupants in danger. Is better to avoid the possible problem, than to register a near catastrophe in video. You have lucky. South American off roads trails, are not the better places to get into problems (I live there, so I know very well). Good luck in your adventure travels.
Thank you so much for your comment! We were overconfident, and lazy, the worst combination to get one in trouble. We have driven very complicated tracks so far in 3 continents and we have been taking care, but one bad decision can lead to a disaster like here. We were lucky in many ways and learnt a lesson. This video hopefully will help others avoiding trouble, next time they consider not walking a river. See you around 😎
There are so many rules, but it’s not an adventure until something goes wrong 😅 A winch can save you work in some places. I’ve now been stuck only in two places where a winch would have made a difference. In both places we performed a self recovery. It was a lot of work but we always got out. In the river a winch would not have made a difference.
@@Thebluelandy Safety first is the rule number one. What you have experienced is not an adventure but an "incident", with minimal damages just because you were helped. And even if for someone being helped is pretty obvious 9:25, actually it is not at all. I am sure that you understood the lesson and you well never ever perform water crossing anymore without checking the surrounding. The winch is a must for offroad solo touring. I have two winches on my landcruiser; I used the rear winch one time only in the last 3 or 4 years but it's enough to confirm that it was a good choice. In your situation, the winch AND a snatch block could have solve the issue in 15 min. From your video, I suggest to replace the fire extinguisher in a better location and considering your cargo handling, I'd just add an additional 1Kg fire extinguisher.
Beautiful and informative episode! Thanks 🙏🏽
What a lesson to learn the hard way.All part of off roading. Glad you got the car sorted and back on the road.Thank god for the local help.
Yeah, never, ever put your guard down and avoid doing proper preparations, doesn't matter the km Offroad and experience. The guys from Yapeyú, those were our guardian angels!
GREAT, DONE IT ,WOW ,ARGENTINA 🇦🇷, ADVENTURES,
Argentina has been amazing with ups and down! But it surprised us incredibly and we are having so much fun! 😁😁
Wow, that was as close as you get to a total disaster. Well done Blue Landy for starting up straight away.
Thats why you should always bring bucket's for draining rivers like this🙈 Nice video 😊
Haha Good point 😂
Thanks for watching
That was a bit of a bugger ! So great of all who helped to get you on the road again. Was holding all my thumbs when you pushed the Landy down that short hill to start it !In the end all worked out and you can continue. Great episode even with the mishap ! Best further and enjoy !!
Hey Henry! Yeah, it was tough, but taught us a lesson, doesn't matter the km of experience, never, ever get lazy ! Thanks to the hill we were back on the road pretty quickly. But our batteries and not in so good shape 😭
These circumstances remind how strong and resilient you are. Probably nice that you had an extra person to help.😊
wow very nice experience friend
Thanks for watching!
Awesome content as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
Thank you so much. We tried to capture it as we could, on the side, of trying to save our beloved Landy. 😵😱
Oh shit! I’m so sorry about your mishap. Safe travels.
Yeap, it was tough! But we are back on the road, and having soooo much fun in South America 🥳
Glad that apart from the experience and the great help of strangers, you could continue your journey (with a battle scar ;-) ).
The people from Yapeyú are absolutely amazing, they were our saviors! With some experience, shock and feeling like a team. Let's continue and have more adventures 🕺🕺💃
Oh wow. What an experience. Very lucky indeed! Great episode and good advice.
It was a hard day. And yes we were lucky in many ways. We hope people learn from our mistake and never get lazy. Thank you for watching!!!
It is a place and time you will never forget.
gratuliere! I am happy you survived and please take care on your journey further. Thumbs up for the locals!!
Without the great help of the locals we would be toast. Really glad they helped even Vater night falls. We will be carful but we’re still looking for adventures 😬
The Universe Provides....Good for you. Great vid.
It for sure did this time. Thanks for watching 😊
Wow what an adventure story you have there.
It was and very tough day, and we were able to capture some of the drama we experienced. We learn many things about making decisions and about ourselves. I guess it is like that in all adventures
Wow, that was intense. Happy that it did end well.
Oh yeah it was intense, don’t need it again! But yeah we were lucky.
Wow what a horrible situation.😱 Great, don't blame each other 🤗👍
It was really tough! We don't 🤗 everybody made some bad calls in this trip, nobody is perfect. But what is important is not matter who did it , everybody always help to solve it . Team work for the win! 💪
Pues ale!. Retiro lo de agradecer. Feliz viaje.
No hace falta retirar! Estas conversaciones son muy importantes!
It will not be the last time we have to work hard as a team (wait a couple of weeks)
For us, we have walked them many times in Africa, and out of laziness and over confidence we decided not to, dumb. Happy that others avoid the issue after watching our video. Stay safe and not dumb! 🤗🤣
Hi You can buy an TD5 ecu extension harness that enables you to mount the ecu high up inside the Landy. May be worth investing in for piece of mind.
Oh that’s good to know I didn’t know there are extension harnesses. I’ll invest in that for sure
Oh, my God, guys! So glad that you are ok and the car is alright. Stay safe and have an amazing trip around the American continent.
It went wrong pretty quickly yeap! We were so incredibly lucky and found amazing people to help us. The bluelandy is an absolute beast 💪😱
Glück im Unglück gehabt 👍👍👍
Genau!! 🍀🍀🍀🍀
OMG - what a scary night. Happy it turned out ok. 😅
Well done! Great adventure😀👍
Thank you thanks for watching
@@Thebluelandy
We are also fans of 4x4 travel, we are familiar with this. Of course we will watch your adventures😀👍
What an adventure 😮❤
Yeap that was something 🙈 we learn lots of things about the bluelandy and ourselves 😅
Amazing (and scary) story! Thank you for sharing. Planning my next trip I will be more cautious on where to drive.
It was really scary. A very desperated situation 😱 we had luck and worked hard, and it payed off. Absolutely always check sketchy paths. 😜
Phew! So glad you OK!
It doesn't always feel like it at the time, but it is called adventure! 🤙😄
as gently as possible and as quickly as necessary.
“when in doubt, mud it out ” is just a joke!
A successful imprudence compromises the intelligence of courage but it doesn´t work everytime🙄
Anyway thank you for this reminder of bad hyper confidence we all could have in a Defender.
Have a nice and safe trip!
Our pleasure sharing our stupid moves, so others can avoid them all together 🤣🙈
Tough to watch! Glad you’re all ok. Damn those bug bites! Yikes

Congratulations!!! I think there is a winch in your future (-; !
I think so too
Sorry to disappoint, still no winch planned!
Very sorry to see your dramatic event unfold. You might check out a youtube video entitled something like “winching backwards from the front of a vehicle”…interesting video, i think it might have saved you? I recently put the 12,000 lb Badlands winch on my Jeep Gladiator. It is an excellent buy and weighs in at 80lbs. 1/2 the weight of an extra passenger, but can pull sooo much more (-;
Great video content and great work you guys!!!
@@buffalolizard I have a Badlands 12,000 lbs winch also.... bought it first thing after stuck in river
Great! I think they are a great value….may be only used once a year.
Oh dear 😳 So glad it turned out well for you. At 26:26 I thought "oh, no, not down there and roll into the river" 😬🤪 - Alles Gute für die weitere Reise! Tolle Videos immer. Danke!
Hey Frank, Yeah that was my fear aswell lucky the ropes helped to look it in and stop the movement. Thank you 😊
Well done for recovering from a stressful situation.
Keep safe, team cheers Rolanda

Oh boy do I remember those windscreen wipers..😵💫
You mean the ones from the Landy? The ones that are noise when dry? 🤣😵
OMG.
Gute Fahrt!
Roger-T.
(Den alten Spruch kennt Ihr vielleicht: It's never over in L-Rover! 😇 )
Hey Roger,
You'll have to put a sticker on the side the landy was sinking
" Max water depth "
Glad everything worked out and no one got hurt.
I told Kai the same!! We need to mark it somehow. The blue landy should wear that scar proudly. Everything was solved in the end 🥺🥳
@@Thebluelandy If you Google land Rover
Max water depth you'll see stickers from various sites. Maybe get a company that specializes in vinyl sign designs they could do one up for you 😉
Andrew
Hi guys, Wow scary in the water and at night, you were lucky you didnt suck water up the exhaust because that would have killed your engine.👍
Hey!! Yeah ,the moment we tried backwards and didn't work we stopped everything, disconnected the aux power and started rescue mode. Including saving our valuables, fixing the car and getting help, ASAP.
Could have happened to anyone! Glad everything was okay. Almost worse thing was mossie bites and Kais pants!!!😂
You have also to check the wheelbearings and change the grease
Never thought about it, to be honest. Thanks for the hint
@@Thebluelandy bitte schön😉
Have been wondering why you haven't invested in a winch yet. You should really get one, front and back.
Hey Justin,
There are several reasons, weight is your biggest enemy off-roading and traveling. Carrying two winches with you to use them 1 or 2 times during the hole tip is overkill in my mind. Plus spending the extra money would probably eat up the budget for 2-3 months traveling. I might would get a winch for a offroad truck, or a farm-work truck but not on an overland truck.
Always walk though water with a pole, yes you get wet but you don’t loose your car.
Yeap! 100% agree, as we have done always ( Africa for example). Our video is a reminder, never get lazy!
Genuine question, why no whinch?? Travelling solo it would be number one on my list !
Hey, I got stuck in many places, and I never had a recovery point where I could have attached a winch. If you have a second car with you a winch is great, but if you are alone it’s just a lot of money and weight that you add to the car. In this case a winch would not have helped either.

So glad you guys continue...
Was I the only one shouting "walk it walk it..."😅
Been there such because I didn't walk it... Now I walk every puddle lol...
Yeah, walk it walk it, we thought about it and erased those thoughts pretty quickly. Damn it. Now we can remember the story ,but it could have ended our South America trip. 😮
oooouch! I have a catapult just like that one, I bet you bought it in Kenya?
No idea where in the video you saw it! Haha but yeah we finally got one in Zambia after not buying in Kenya. They are awesome 😎
Anacondas no idea, but the area has caymans 😱
Regarding the Orcas, can we kayak there?? 🤔🤣
And regarding the websites, feel free to post us on the forums, about "what not to do" 🤣🤣🤣
So if only use front winch, how to put belt socket below the car to keep belt pull from back...🤔
Sorry , we don't understand what do you mean, can you elaborate or explain it in other way? Thanks tons in advance!
nearly the end od the Landy, maybe invest is a battery boost jump start, they are small and powerful and abt 99 dollars, good luck, I wish i had a defender as a second car I have a 2015 SDV6 A powerful tow car
my first was a series one 1957 had that in 169, then a series three then a td5 disco 2, which was great, the series three broke the long rear axle often
@@Thebluelandy Probably you could export one from Australia but they are very very expensive here very
I have watched a lot of your videos, and for the first time I noticed that you have a Swiss motorway vignette sticker on your windscreen. At some point, you may have driven very close to where I live
Hey Antoine, we went trough Swiss several times mostly Basel - Genf, I also have friends in Zürich. In this trip in particular we skip Swiss and went through Austria. 😉 where are you located
@@ThebluelandyI'm halfway between Lausanne and Geneva.
Yeah than I passed by 4-5 times
@@Thebluelandy Next time stop by ;-)
7:10 How can you believe that this won't happen at some point when you use a river exactly like a road?
Hey Philip, Normally I don’t use diff lock and low gears on a road, not sure what you do.
The problem clearly was that the road had a bridge that was off center to the right. If we would have walked it there’s a chance that we would have realized that, not 100% sure about that… . Missing the bridge with one tire caused the car to slide down and off the road.
Hope you paid quite a lot for the rescue, foreigners on an adventure and without rescuing equipment should pay hefty fines for this behaviour.
Thank you for your comment, can you please explain what kind of behavior are you referring to? We want to understand your point 🙌
And I would not know where to put it 😅
Und dafür kommt Karsten extra angeflogen........Gruß Klaus
Haha ja, let the show begin 🙈
Don’t you have a winch on your Landy? Especially if you travel with inexperienced vehicle… we learned this lesson overlanding remote places…
Would it help if you had a winch?
Hey, only a winch in the back of the car could have done anything. A winch in the front would have flipped the car due to the bridge infront of the car
@@Thebluelandy There are of course demountable winches which cam go either end but like you I choose to travel without a winch.
Please take a winch with you next time. It helps sometimes
In this case it would not have helped, having a winch on the front. But! Check the latest video(EP76) ! We experience it first hand!
@@Thebluelandy I’m familiar with AGM, they indeed are much more capable than traditional acid batteries. Glad all is well.
you should add a winch on this thing
I drove into a deep pool of water with my Defender 130, and it did drown the ECU. I was not so lucky!
Ouhh no 😭😭😭😭 how did you solve it at the time?
Omg, winches are on sale at Harbor Freight Store 12,000 lb. $350. US, check on line!
Not in our plans at the moment, maybe one day we change our minds 🙊
Discipline is the rule number one in any adventure. Solo offroad without a winch?
There are so many rules, but it’s not an adventure until something goes wrong 😅
A winch can save you work in some places.
Omg
😅
I’m a defender owner and what I have just witnessed was rather a dumb move, you always check before going in
Yeah! That's why we mention it in the thumbnail 🤣 it was stupid. Hopefully people learn from our mistakes 🙏
You guys just wont buy a winch huh ? 😅😅😅 Just get one already
Haha not yet! It's pissing a lot of people that we don't have one 🙈
Try that in a new computerised Defender and it’s all over rover.
Ouh yeah, pretty quickly 😱
