@Ben Eckard I am sorry, do you find English difficult to read? You seem to miss words. Try reading my sentence again; it is not really a complex one. Then be so kind as to answer my question.
I don't agree with Fry on many things but this kind of stuff is exactly why I respect the man and I'm always interested on his point of view. Same goes for Peterson.
@@geordieinjapan Yet they still find themselves on the same side making a point in favor of free speech so I'd say they have more in common than you think. Edit: They definitely have more in common with each other than they do with those on the opposing side of the argument.
One of the wisest 6:05 minutes I've ever spent. Actually, the time is much longer than that, because I have come back to this video many times over the years. It's more relevant now than ever, but most will never see and understand it. Thank you Steven.
Stephen Fry's intellect is absolutely awe inspiring. Also a little terrifying. Probably one of the few people on the planet I'd be nervous to engage in conversation.
Wonderful opening speach from a real wordsmith. ..he's such an inspirational guy who uses the English language beautifully. ...it's a shame most of his fellow Englishmen and women never get the opportunities to further there education to use the language so usefully
let me help you with one baby step then... It should be THEIR education; 'there' is for a place, 'their' denotes something belonging to someone. Best wishes :)
@@ZJStrudwick proves my point then doesn't it?....personally I never had the benefit of a good education....I was only diagnosed with dyslexia (very slight) at the age of 30 when my son was statemented as dyslexic..so...thanks for being patronising...or just a smart arse!
I love Stephen Fry and this is one of the many reasons why. I don't have to agree with everything he says but he's definitely one of the few that I truly respect.
If you enjoy Stephen Fry as I do, do yourself a favor and watch his tour of America available on Netflix. Both enlightening, sometimes challenging, touching and always entertaining.
A new entry for my collection of quotes that ought to be famous: _"I believe, one of the greatest human failings is to prefer to be right than to be effective"_ - Stephen Fry - English actor, broadcaster, comedian, director and writer
..you sure about that ? ;) Funny how refreshing it is especially recently to hear someone state opinion instead of belief - and especially doubt. Doubt keeps the door open to new knowledge.
Fry is so honest and I really believe in him trying to make to world a more progressive place rather than trying to become famous for speeches, selling books or whatever. He is modest and his quote about not trying to keep the right on your side if it is not effective to achieve anything with is inspired me totally
Of the 4 towering intellects on the stage, Stephen Fry is the most effective at conveying readily understandable ideas to the average plebeians such as myself.
Watching the full debate was such a disappointment and I felt sorry for Stephen during it. The other three spend the whole thing bickering over semantics and optics, while Fry simply wants to debate the issue at hand. I don't know where I stand on this issue personally, but Fry was certainly the standout.
On the contrary. I felt it was Dr. Peterson and Stephen Fry who, through logic, reason, and facts, dismantled the attempts by Dyson, to lower the discussion into petty tribalism and racial intersectionality. Dyson lowered himself, (no surprise there); and, served to reduce what otherwise should have been a debate, to pettiness and small-minded blather. Dyson is, to the English language, what snake oil salesmen were to medicine.
I agree with Fry fully and I am coming from a left background. Right-wing conservatism and bigotry still remains a huge issue in today’s society, and it does cause all these horrible things such as sexism, homophobia, racism and worse. But the radical “left” is trying to extinguish the raging, right-wing flames by pouring gasoline over them. The reason I use quotation marks: A minority of radicalised hyper-PC people is not the “left”. They are just louder than the majority of sensible left and progressive thinkers. Also European culture is way different from the radically polarised and opinionated US culture. People gotta take a breath, question themselves and their ideas and then move towards a rational and humane consensus.
Stephen Fry, Noam Chomsky, Coleman Hughes....... these are the people we need to look to when it comes to ending bigotry and intolerance. Not those who endorse censorship, morital puritanism, control, guilt, tribal conformity, authoritarianism, or conformity. Cancel culture is cementing that christian-influenced dogma about "sin" and "atonement" that really should have died out with the middle ages.
Stephen Fry perhaps is left but certainly liberal but in modern society and as a British patriotic loyalist we do not team fit to cancel culture someone who has opposing views to us whether it is the BLM and the ultraleft associates that’s what they believe in J. K. Rowling can state facts and the trans-gender lobby deem it okay to want to cancel culture here I think that says it all.
Well, that shut the African American gentleman up. He showed his intelligence by throwing vile insults and stirring up the baying mob with hate. And loving every minute of it.
A modern great. No one better to represent the UK in such a debate. Fry and Peterson are a force to be reckoned with.
Let's not get carried away - it's never good .
@Joe Cool hear him out,
Stephen Fry is very intellectual and sound in his arguments. Jordan is not
@@TaraCarmelina ah come on, he's kinda good
Dyson and Peterson were the stand out morons of this debate.
Stephen Fry is one of the few people I admire; a man of absolute integrity.
How would you know ? You don't know the guy I'm guessing. You just cant assert that he is of absolute integrity .
@Ben Eckard how not?
@@DrTWG An entire life practicing what you preach shows it. A very good example is; where does he stand in this debate?
@Ben Eckard no I do not, but even if I did; how would that make me less of a man? What defines a man for you?

Best speech on polarised politics I have ever heard.
Stephen Fry is inspiring. I do not have to agree with you to be civil to you.
@Ben Eckard I think you confuse weak with meek, and we know they are inheriting the earth.
I realize I'm kinda off topic but do anyone know a good site to watch new movies online ?
@Gibson Leonard i would suggest FlixZone. Just google for it =)
@Kamryn Jaxxon thanks, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) I appreciate it!!
@Gibson Leonard Glad I could help :D
Bravo Stephen Fry!! I wish I could say those things equally well. Thank you!!

As far as I'm concerned he wasn't wrong.
This man is a worldwide treasure.
As much as I love Jordan Peterson, Stephen Fry stole the show that night. Absolutely brilliant.
