Vevor Ultrasonic Record Cleaner unboxing and ultimate test - Part 1

  • The Vevor Ultrasonic Record cleaner is possibly the cheapest of its kind available in Australia, currently retailing for $242.99. With vinyl undergoing a resurgence in popularity, and given many albums are now 40 or more years old, is ultrasonic cleaning the way to achieve best results? Can a sub-$300 machine be any good? How deep does it clean the records, and what kind of results should you expect. In part #1, we unbox the machine and set it up - making quite a few mistakes along the way. These will all be addressed in part #2, along with many observations about how best to use the machine, and what can be expected from a dirty to clean record, and in the ultimate test, can it remove paint spatter from vinyl?

Thank you. I'm looking forward to part 2, as I'm definitely considering one of these.

I also bought this cleaner a couple of weeks ago. I’m desperately awaiting part 2.
Very informative part 1, thank you.my plastic disc holes weren’t big enough to fit in the spindle, I really had to force them on.also I loosened the screw on the spindle and it slowed the spinning speed down.

Thanks for the videos (both 1 and 2) I have a couple of hundred records that I cleaned in my dish sink with warm water, Dawn detergent and some 91% alcohol. It did clean them them up some but many (like you, I bought a lot of them used) and were terrible. Been wanting to improve them and I think this is the way to go. I couldnt see spending 500 or more (US) dollars and now seeing this one under 200 seems reasonable and will allow me to enjoy my records more. (When the Mrs lets me play them lol) . Anyway, thanks again! Cheers! (ps my eyes have been going for nearly 25 years... lolol)

Very informative - was thinking of getting back into vinyl and wondering how to clean my old LP's. This looks to be the goods!

He mejorado la estanqueidad de los separadores con unos recortes de goma Eva. Al ocupar mas espacio he cambiado la arandela de cierre por otra más pequeña.

As you use a wetting agent in your cleaning solution, it would be beneficial to the whole cleaning process if you rinse the record after an ultrasonic bath.

I found at first that hitting the hole in the middle of the record with the cleaner full of liquid was not easy. The bolt stub caused damage by scratching the label. I created a soft tip on the end of this bolt using some rubbery resin that I use to make scale model car tires. It is Polytek pt flex 70.
I superglued a small diameter short piece of brass rod flat on the end to hold the resin. I mixed a small amount and dipped the end in the material to create a small drop on the end of the shaft. I did the dip twice. Now the end is smooth and rounded and does not damage the label.

Bro, I thought Crocodile Dundee was just fictional... but apparently y'all actually do use gigantic knives for small tasks down under.

I picked up on of these in the UK of eBay for £179, have not seen another for this price since. It does ok, for the price. Motor is noisy like that of an electric shaver. It said on my version that it can fit 4 records at a time. I could only manage about 2 at max. It does get the crap off but results vary. I still use my spinclean system afterwards as a back up. Certainly one of the cheapest ultrasonic cleaners on the market. Nice video. Would like to see part 2.

I’ve got a similar setup that can do 8 records at a time, but I limit it to 4 at a time.
I also have a vacuum record cleaner as well. So, since I’ve already cleaned all, but anything new, I only use the sonic cleaner on prior cleaned records as needed.
You’re right though about the speed of the record spinner, it needs to be as slow as possible.

What cleaning fluid would you use for old shellac 78's and an ultrasonic cleaner? I've read alcohol based will damage them.

Demineralised water is not the same as distilled water I think you should be using the latter

Interested but slightly concerned about that noise, is it very audible in other rooms of your house?

no worries - this only cleans the record(s), not play them

If you can, consider setting up your cleaning station in a bathroom, garage, or laundry room. This should resolve the noisy system problem. That is what I plan to do.

Acetone instead of demineralised water will give you that much deeper clean and purer sound 😁👍
