This honestly made my jaw drop. As a professional printer with access to electrical wire punch machines and sprial binders I would never have thought you could do that. I love the dedication and creativity you put in to make it work! Astonishing.
Thank youuu.. This is very simple but helpful. Most of other tutorials uses some sort of binding machine (even though it's as simple as paper trimmer + The Cinch), I actually can't afford those as of now 😅 this tutorial saved my life. I have a lot of watercolor papers laying around the house, so I wanted to make a watercolor sketchbook out of those!
I was prepping to make a planner for this new year, & I am SO glad I came across your video! Amazing advice with a very thorough guide! Thanks so much!
I wish I found this video sooner. I love my notebooks and spend a small fortune on them in a years' time. Now I can make my own AND it will keep me busy! Thank you!
I have been thinking about making my own art journal book because I can't seem to find one in the size that I'm looking for, or with a cover that I like. I have been watching a lot of your videos on how you make/bind your books... You have given me many ideas, and helpful tips!!! THANK YOU....
Omg thank you so much! I have to spiral bound a manual we did for technical writing class and i was trying to figure out a way to do it in my dorm room for cheap without having to find a place to do it. And its basically punching holes and putting a coil in
you could take your aluminum wire and fold it in half before you wrap it around your cylindrical mold or what ever and that would make it strong enough to support its own tension, but then you'd need to punch bigger holes in your paper.
This is such a nice project...the DIY spiral-bound booklet would be such a nice multipurpose gift!! Think I'm going to try this and surprise some people I love dearly!! Thank you!! Thank you!! Truly excited!!!!!
Great DIY tutorial on spiral binding. Both with and without professional tools. Seeing various mini notebooks ion Esty first sparked my interest. Took me some time to find out how the hole punchers for these are called. (Because the square holes in the custom notebooks I saw made it obvious that there must be some tools for private use that make these in one swoop. So thanks for mentioning those hole punch binding machines. in the beginning.
Hardware store wire is cheaper. I've made my own springs, but this will work with softer wire. Get a piece of metal rod or threaded rod (All tread). The diameter of the rod determines the inside diameter of the loops. Place it in a drill chuck, Push the wire down into the chuck, then run the drill on slow while feeding the wire (gloved hand, but make sure the wire is loose behind your hand, so a kink or loop doesn't grab your hand and pull it into the rod. The spiral forms in seconds. You could also make a hand crank. By using a drill or a crank you can twist any wire, make uniform loops. Hardware wire will be stiffer than the jewelry wire. You could also use really fat wire (1/8" and slightly larger) to make a very different spiral than commercially sold notebooks
I wish I could you give more than one thumbs up. Well done! I was looking for a way to make my own weather proof field reference notebooks. I'll be using Rite-in-the-rain laser printer paper and this technique.
Loved it for a quickie with no much hassles of screwing up pockets... instead screw a book ready to use... Thanks a bunch! And I guess a crop-a-dile shud help too.... :D
Wow! Thanks so much for sharing! This is exactly what I was looking to do. I just have a few 8 page booklets that needed to be spiral bound and didn't want to pay 5 bucks each at the copy shop.
I love your channel! And it's really awesome because just yesterday I found an old book making kit of my moms that made me really want to make a book, and then, by chance, I found your channel while looking for Easter egg crafts, AND IT IS SO COOL!!!
İ love your videos! Here's a spiral binding pro-tip. Once İ found a notebook where the holes were punched farther apart than the distance from the edge of the sheet. That way when you tear a sheet out, less paper stays inside the binding. Of course İ've never found another one like this in stores. And maybe you won't tear the sheets out of a notebook that you put this much work into, but it's an idea.
Very cool video! Good cadence, sound levels, clear instructions, and appropriately timed. One of the few videos with background music that did not detract from the core content. Also, your voice was pleasant, not shrill or nasally. I also appreciated the content, but thought I would mainly comment on the video quality because it was exceptionally well done.
