I am reading through these comments and laughing. My uncle was in this band and I live in OCNJ now. I was 5 years old when this song came out and living in the Philadelphia area. They were a great band and I am still in touch with the ORIGINAL members. Thanks for the great reading everyone.
This band was so underrated .I read about the ups and downs mainly caused by the business not the band. I was lucky enough to see them on Long Island at my fathers place. They rocked.I remember that show like it was yesterday. I think it was 1982? BTW OCNJ is our favorite place went there so many times.I served in the NJ Air Guard near by.
Charles was (still is) an incredible talent. There is/was/ will always be ONLY ONE ORIGINAL Shooting Star band. Any configuration that came after was/is a “Tribute” Band. youtube.com/@shootingstaroriginalbandfu9452
Summer 1985, my girlfriend and I finally got a day off together and were driving my Dodge Dart convertible to the beach without a care in the world, and then this song came on the radio. It made one of those perfect memories that stays with you the rest of your life. God bless the members of Shooting Star.
This song came on the radio right after I had fought back from a panic disorder that had me not leaving the house for about 9 months. After meds and therapy I finally felt alive again when this song arrived in the summer of '85 and holds a special place in my heart. Thank you Shooting Star (the most underrated band of the 1980''s in my humble opinion).
Shooting Star is among the many underrated rock bands of the 1980s...I have vinyl copies of their eponymous debut album from 1980, Hang On For Your Life from 1981, Three Wishes from 1982, Burning from 1983 and Silent Scream from 1985 on both vinyl and cassette...Their songcraft has been consistently fine from one recording to the next...I have nothing but the highest praise for this enormously talented, hard-working band out of Kansas City, MO...
This takes me right back to the 80s...they were so underrated. Im a hugh fan from the uk..but now living in France i love cranking up their tunes...such a great band
I am Jeffery Don Temple from Kansas and have seen this band too many times too mention and still love listening to them today...Patty Carothers from Houston good to hear you still like them...This is by far the most under rated band in the history of music....Started listening to SHOOTING STAR in the late '70's and still listen to them today...So, in my 53 years on this planet, it's good to know there is still some of us that appreciate good music...Emily 3 likes to dance to them as well..
How can 10 people dislike it! Imagine if you would drive with an Pontiac Trans Am 1986 on the sunset strip in summer and this song comes in radio! This beats nearly everything nowadays!!
Definitely brings back the memories of high school cruising around the streets with my best friend Andy in my black on black 1985 F-body Trans-Am listening to 95YNF FM Tampa, Florida on the stereo as the DJ Russ Albums plays this song...
Summer of 1985, cruising San Antonio's Westside (the barrio) and the downtown area with my buddies in my 1975 VW Rabbit whose transmission was about to go out!! My rabbit would smoke up a storm if I made a sudden turn or stop!! One time I made a sudden stop at a red light and so much smoke came out of the transmission, that the cars behind me had to slow down to be able to see in front of them!! It seemed like a cloud had come down from the sky!! I was a poor but proud college student!!
This is my first time watching this video (and listening to this song) since 1985 or so. Although this definitely isn't one of the better songs that Shooting Star recorded, it's just great watching Gary West singing and playing rhythm guitar, and hearing the great voice that he had back then. He was truly one of Rock And Roll's best singers of the 80's. It's such a terrible shame that the music industry utterly let him and the rest of the band down. It really is. R.I.P. Van McLain, a great guitarist and a decent singer in his own right, too.
I remember the summer of 85, I would wake up to videos on V32 in Winter Haven FL . Would hear this song everyday that summer, I forgot who sang this song but I always had this song in my head every summer after that. I don’t know why it stuck in my head but I finally found this song and it takes me back when I was fifteen, great times back then.
So many great memories with this band it's unbelievable...Over 30 years and I can listen to them everyday...Never get's old..Used to see them warm up KANSAS when both were trying to make the big time..Just saw KANSAS out here in Vegas a while back....but SHOOTING STAR will always live in my heart as #1..Always remember life is way too short and "Train Rolls On" but not on my time...
For a Gen-Xer this song and video speaks to our heart and stirs up emotions, energy and memories of our youth. It is a travesty that this doesn't have more likes.
This tune evokes so many strong memories for a lot of people and it is so tied to Summer 1985 - my senior year as well. Great songs have that effect on us - like a time machine!
This is one of those great songs that almost literally transport you back to the first time you heard it, and the memories it brings...I heard this on Boston, MA's answer to MTV, called V66. Silent Scream is STILL on my playlist, and is a part of my Life Soundtrack...thank you for posting this!
It was 1985 - I met a guy by the name of Jeffrey Don Temple who came from Kansas! He lived in Victoria, TX when I met him and he introduced me to "Shooting Star"! I have collected EVERY CD they ever produced! They are ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!! That would be Saline, Kansas!!!!! ;-) My favorite is "Train Rolls On" !!!
Howdy.GSG here. by 1985 my buddies and I had buried our vws but in 84,85 I was in a band called First Take and we used to do this song.I also had this album! In fact it might still be in a box in the garage someplace. We also used to cruise in the vw through the barrios ( loma park) our hood, brack etc. For about a dollar or two.
Ditto that bds1167! For me it was Summer '85 in Wildwood, NJ! The chorus of this song makes the hairs on my arms stand up and gives me goose-bumps! Brilliant! And those girls at the Jersey Shore - Wow!
I agree that it was underrated and underexposed! Saw them on this tour, right up in the front row:?) For years, this song kicked off my "summer season" by being whipped out of it's sleeve and placed lovingly on the turntable:?) Memories...
That brings me back memories. One time I was at a youth center before my senior year in high school, trying to enjoy the moment and I got that song in my head, and it makes perfect sense. What a rarity, and a find. Thanks for posting.
I loved this record. Used to record it onto cassette for the car rides. Great band, great memories with Shooting Star!. Wish I could find another copy of it, but this time on cd.
LOVE IT! I bought this on release back in 1985 as an 18/19 year old - we get to hear all too little of this here in the UK - don't get me started on the pathetic attitude of DJ's here in Britain... this is so good...
OMG these guys w/KISS?? Killer!! STP was supposed to be w/KISS in '97 when I saw them but Gene kicked them out, damn. Great hearing this again, gotta grab those remastered discs! Ah, I remember the Triumph, Kansas and Shooting Star days, back in the late 70's - 80's Thanks
I went to the record store and special ordered this record as a teenager. After a few weeks they told me it was out of print. Over the years I lost track and forgot what it was called. It was only a vague memory of a video that used to play on channel U-68. Thanks for uploading this and bringing me back in time.
it went out of print because Geffen got into a fight with all the radio promo guys and fired them the week the album came out. Earlier albums also were deleted and the band broke up for a long time. Then Van died a couple of months ago.
@SuperiorPolitics I saw the same show but at Astroworld in Houston, Shooting Star opened up for Heart!! Both Bands put on a heck of a show as hot and humid as it was!!
Hey, thanks for the video. I seen these guys back in late eighties at a small club in Cincinnati and they rocked the house. I agree with the poster on their songs to be found, my personal favorite is Flesh and Blood.
I had a 1967 Chevy pickup truck in the mid to late 1980 I found this shooting star cassette tape at a thrift store and bought it and put it in the cassette player in the truck I Jam to that the whole summer I wore that tape out
@markinddark, thanks Mark, believe it or not, back in 1985 you and I were multi-millionaires because we had youth and time on our side!! Had we only known that "life is so brief and time is a thief" Keep on Rocking in the Free World!!
@SuperiorPolitics I wanted to go to that show, but I had family visiting me in Dallas! Saw SS several times in Kansas during high school/college. This was my favorite album by them, then they were gone. Always such good, positive music.
I still have this album lovingly tucked away in my collection:?) Pulled it out every year for years to mark the beginning of "summer". Had the chance to see them perform in Davenport, IA that summer, I was all of 15 years old. What a great band:?)
bds1167 No doubt, brother. The Jersey shore was way cool back in the 80's, when music like this was on the radio and being blasted across the boardwalk and on the beach! Prep's pizza was pretty good too...
Am here because of the movie. "Dark Angel" or "I Come in Peace" one of the best low budget movies ever made. The soundtrack is amazing. Don' t forget to check out all of Jonh's Carpenters films, the master of great low budget movies.
Back when music made you dream. Not like the sexualized auto-tuned trash that's out there today.Shooting star was a very underrated band.Touch me tonight sadly was the only song they were known for as it was the only song that got any real airplay. Why they never got bigger was beyond me,there was a lot of good talent in that band.
Hot summer days Remember the things you used to do With nothing to lose Driving into the sunset You give yourself with no regrets All the places have changed But our hearts are still the same - Jenny Come into the warm summer sun Makes you feel forever young Together we'll find what we want On the streets of summer sun Summer sun Remember the nights You told me the secrets of your heart... your hungry heart Now you've seen all that can happen With lipstick and crimes of passion And lying kisses of fate That can fall along the way - Jenny Come into the warm summer sun Girls are walking one by one Together we'll find what we want On the streets of summer Come into the warm summer sun Jenny take my classic car Together we'll find what we want On the streets of summer sun Summer sun Summer sun Just open your eyes The kids on the street reach for their dreams The silent screams You see boys out there racing A quick time for what they're facing And girls lost in love Do you remember how it was - Jenny? Saw them play tonight in St. Louis with Missouri and Ozark Mountain Daredevils. They were fantastic. Believe they only have 1 original member left, but they sound fantastic. Check them out if you can
I have a question for you more poetic listeners. This may start a debate but I'm curious, what do you make of the guy in the Mustang meeting his girl? Since he starts off alone, is she a lost love from teenage years or a wife he is longer with. At the end of the video they drive away together so I don't thing she died. I'm thinking a wife he fell out of love with until they remembered the old days. what say you?
@Ken5244 Thanks, I was afraid I was wrong on that one. I just looked at another comment below that said they were Canadian. Anyways I still think Canada had some hard ass rock bands back then. Regards to Shooting Star, they are great even though they are American.
Still no luck ! Please help .. Post the song "Don"t walk away" off the same album as this song . The album was Silent Scream....... Still can't find it anywhere ! Anybody have any idea's ?
What do you make of the guy in the Mustang meeting his girl? He's alone until she just appears. Is she a lost love from teenage years or a wife he is longer with? At the end of the video they drive away together so I don't thing she died. I'm thinking a wife he fell out of love with until they remembered the old days. Your thoughts?
Geffen Records fired their entire PR team a week after this album came out. So it died on national radio. The video got mild rotation. Most of the band members quit after the Geffen fiasco.
ASIA’s Astra album from the same time disappeared for that reason too. GO was a great song. Also, Gary was the lead singer in The Beckies under his real name. Check it out.
Shooting Star's lead vocalist Gary West, sounds a lot like Don Henley on this particular song...When listening to it, I can't help but be reminded of Henley's smash hit, The Boys Of Summer from his 1984 lp, Building The Perfect Beast...
Bob Schneider: You're welcome. Oh, I've been visiting a youtube channel where some people have been really going over the top about Steve Perry. Which is their right, as long as they stay legal...I like him and Journey, too...anyway,. interesting channel you have...may I ask what your association with Shooting Star is? (I have most of their albums, including Silent Scream.)
I think its the vibe of the song that made me think of Henley and The Boys of Summer, too. The style of singing maybe, i dont know. Both great songs however.
Yeah, although to be fair, Shooting Star always did have a strong pop sensibility running throughout most of their music ("You've Got What I Need" and "Higher" being examples). But I know what you mean. By that time (1985), Geffen had evidently taken this incredibly unique, talented band and shoehorned them into this mid-grade, middle-of-the-road AOR crapola that was blasé and excessively synthesized. They did that to *way* too many bands back then. Hell, they even did that to the once-promising and hella unique Rockabilly/CowPunk band *Lone Justice* fer Chrissakes!! Can you believe that?? That was the first sign of trouble right there.
Shooting Star were a fine example of how talented bands from outside of L.A. got overlooked.

I was in High School when this song came out, brings back so many memories!
Tell them their music made a tremendous impact on many young lives me being one.
Summer 1985, my girlfriend and I finally got a day off together and were driving my Dodge Dart convertible to the beach without a care in the world, and then this song came on the radio. Im with you man I long for those days to return to a happier time...
If we could just transport back to this time i would do so in a heartbeat.
Definitely one of the best 80s songs! Without a doubt! Fantastic tune!!

I've never heard of this band until now. Just flipping on TH-cam and decided to play their video. Love it. Love the 80's. Brings back memories.❤❤😊😊
Hi Jeff
One of the best eighties tunes in my opinion.
Very underrated
How can 10 people dislike it! Imagine if you would drive with an Pontiac Trans Am 1986 on the sunset strip in summer and this song comes in radio! This beats nearly everything nowadays!!
I love reading these comments. They made music that speaks to the soul then and still does today. That's why they're my favorite band.
Definitely brings back the memories of
high school cruising around the streets with my best friend Andy in my black on black 1985 F-body Trans-Am listening to 95YNF FM Tampa, Florida on the stereo as the DJ Russ Albums plays this song...
with Ron and Ron in the AM...good times....always a tough choice 98Rock or 95YNF Tampa Bay's home of Rock and Roll
The Home of Rock and Roll! Always.
Absolutely A Fantastic Group. Loved Their Music but so true, underrated & overlooked ! Very, very sad.

Shooting Star was the most underrated group of the 1980s. This song also very underrated also. Great song!

Shooting star was so good in concert when they opened up for triumph in 1981 it was such a good concert flawless
A very underrated band. Great music!

Such a great song...the video nails it. Superb
I had a 1967 Chevy pickup truck in the mid to late 1980 I found this shooting star cassette tape at a thrift store and bought it and put it in the cassette player in the truck I Jam to that the whole summer I wore that tape out
This song really kicks. They were a great band with the original line up
@dannywizz
Actually, Shooting Star was from Kansas City, Missouri, not Canada. And before you ask, yes, I'm sure.
No offense -- just lettin' 'ya know.

Well hello Mr. Temple - good to hear from you after 25 years!!! Yeah, I still crank up Shooting Star songs - love them.

Man this song takes me back
Hot summer days
Remember the things you used to do
With nothing to lose
Driving into the sunset
You give yourself with no regrets
All the places have changed
But our hearts are still the same - Jenny
Come into the warm summer sun
Makes you feel forever young
Together we'll find what we want
On the streets of summer sun Summer sun
Remember the nights
You told me the secrets of your heart... your hungry heart
Now you've seen all that can happen
With lipstick and crimes of passion
And lying kisses of fate
That can fall along the way - Jenny
Come into the warm summer sun
Girls are walking one by one
Together we'll find what we want
On the streets of summer
Come into the warm summer sun
Jenny take my classic car
Together we'll find what we want
On the streets of summer sun Summer sun
Summer sun
Just open your eyes
The kids on the street reach for their dreams
The silent screams
You see boys out there racing
A quick time for what they're facing
And girls lost in love
Do you remember how it was - Jenny?
Come into the warm summer sun
Jenny let your heart be owned
Together we'll find what we want
On the streets of summer
Come into the warm summer sun
Bet the girls are walking on
Together we'll find what we want
On the streets of the summer sun
Summer sun, Summer sun, Summer sun
This was their "Last Chance". Gary West left the band after this album.
Great song.
Saw them play tonight in St. Louis with Missouri and Ozark Mountain Daredevils. They were fantastic. Believe they only have 1 original member left, but they sound fantastic. Check them out if you can
¡Temazo!
I'm just a big fan and a member of their fan Yahoo! group. Occasionally, I get a little nugget of interesting info.
what a great blast from the past ! made me wish i woz in the u s of a instead of england ! ! !
This video was on MTV all the time back in the 80's. We just did not understand the meaning back then. 😥😥
Good old summer song by them.
this is an aor anthem!!!!
Love this album!
Damn- has it been 24 years already?
33 now...
I'm also picking up shades of Steve Perry in Gary's vocals...
He sounds nothing like Sammy Hagar, you clueless fucking Republican. The OP is right.
Steve Perry sounds like Gary West.
...but Gary has a little more gravel.
good old 80's tune
@fuzzmaster5. The band is still out there touring. You can get that album (Silent Scream) on their website, shootingstarmaniacs.co_.
A keyboard player who also plays violin...how cool is that
Eddie Jobson with Frank Zappa and UK with Terry Bozzio and John Wetton
I agree 100%
I love this song!! thanks!! (from spain)
Someone please post " Don't walk away " from the same album.. Please

Honestly, I was paying far too much attention to the sexy fat guy to even notice anything else but the band itself.
meant to be forever young.....
@Ken5244 Thanks, I was afraid I was wrong on that one. I just looked at another comment below that said they were Canadian. Anyways I still think Canada had some hard ass rock bands back then.
Regards to Shooting Star, they are great even though they are American.
Gary has been out of the music biz for years. He owns a radon detection company.
Still no luck ! Please help .. Post the song "Don"t walk away" off the same album as this song . The album was Silent Scream....... Still can't find it anywhere ! Anybody have any idea's ?

Canada? Shooting Star is from Kansas City.
I can hear a lot of 90's Praying Mantis in this song. Now I see where they got their inspiration from. *_*

I am here because I am exploring Ron Nevison's 80s work.
"You remember how it was..."
I just found a 80s vintage shooting star t shirt
@MrkintheDrk - You got it. Look at my other videos.
So who was Jenny? Anyone?
@dannywizz
No problem. I saw that other comment too. He's mistaken.
Shooting Star's lead vocalist Gary West, sounds a lot like Don Henley on this particular song...When listening to it, I can't help but be reminded of Henley's smash hit, The Boys Of Summer from his 1984 lp, Building The Perfect Beast...
To my ears, the singer here sounds nothing like Don Henley or Sammy Hagar.
@@bobdavis4848 Thank you. A slight bit Steve Perry, maybe, but it's all Gary.
@fuzzmaster5
Ditto!
The vocals are similar to Y&T.
@BRAINWIGMAN Check out shootingstarmaniacs . com
My, but this band lost the plot when it went pop!
