- Our first game in this week's tournament! We're going up against VoidInsanity. They're a great player and have opted to use Fortified Specialist to have extra hardy units right out of the gate, we're going Giant but can we hold back the onslaught long enough to get the big fellas in play?
Anything you think I've done wrong or could do better please let me know, I'm always looking to improve both my gameplay and the video quality. Thanks again for watching!

This...was perhaps the first time I've seen somebody with giant specialist and double senior manufacturing get wrecked by their opponent, especially one that went rhinos of all things 😭

@@Drone_101the game does, and DRN should just be beaten by editing DRN as punishment, since editing DRN has a far better worth ethic

I think the turn you doubled down on the fangs instead of vulvan cost you the game.
You played very well in the face of unexpected strategy. If you had spent money on 2 more Vulcan over fang you 100% will win as you scaled.
Crawler tech and fang tech into badger was interesting.
Hindsight is 20/20
Tower level was a good idea.

I was not sold on the t6 Vulcan pickup! I find typhoons to be pretty effective chaff clear, although without atk up they might struggle. Last turn I was missing overlords because he doesn't have enough AA. And then you called out over upgrading the fangs. But great call by your opponent! He got extra lucky with the redeploy. Tough!
Yeah thanks Ian! Really wish I'd gone Wraith as chaff clear here, yes they'd have gotten stuck on the Armor Rhinos like everything else but at least they still hit other things at the same time with their indiscriminate target selection.
Think double Senior Manufacturing baited me to tunnel vision on trying to use Giants to solve all my porblems when sometimes the simplest answers are also the most effective!

Vulcan is slowing climbing up my unit tier ladder. Ignite vulcan (old school I know) is becoming A LOT more viable these days with how frequently we see sandworms. Vulcans is the one-stop shop for chaff AND any melee giants. Fire badger is still slightly better, but vulcan's getting there (and def S-tier with the "extended range vulcan" card). I think Bearlike is secretly rooting for vulcan as well.
Haha, yeah - this game was a tough one to watch back in the edit. I hear your argument for Ignite on all the burny units, will defo have to give it a try soon! Will admit think Vulcans are absolutely atrocious in the current meta right now haven't felt glad to have them on my board for a long while now but I'm a slow adopter so may well be behind the curve :D
awesome game. thought leveling the big tanks may have helped punch through some of the leveled chaff hp and so help the vulcans be effective plus be a slightly beefier speedhump. ggwp lookin fwd to future game :)
Yep, good call, think levelling the Sabertooth Tanks would've helped here for sure. Their shots vs the Crawlers are overkill but would defo have helped stop those Rhinos faster.
Not too sure how to even deal with the high level Rhinos, even the Melting Points felt like were not cutting through fast enough. Acid Scorpions? or are they too fast for that to mater?
Your opponent had a massive lack of things pointed up, not sure what air units would have been best, but anything to claim the skies could have helped.
Overall good game, did the most with what you could. Shocked the Vulcans did not put in the work when you went up to 4 of them.
Edits on point as always, super helpful and keeping my eyes on what you are talking about.

Thanks for the support! Think Wraiths would've helped to clear the chaff really well. They target indiscriminately, so wouldn't just be 100% stuck on Rhinos like the Vulcans were. Plus Degen would be a good option to slow the Rhinos to buy us more time pushing them back.
The fundamental mistake here was going 5 rounds in a row without a Chaff Clear unit. I'm far too used to playing either a Tank or Arclight opener and just assumed Fangs en mass with Mech Rage would somehow magically fill that role. Redeploy meant I couldn't rely on well positioned Melting Points to instantly neutralise the Rhinos and made the game a lot more complicated. I probably should've considered it rather than just snap picking Senior Manufacturing just because I was Giant Specialist. Hope you're having a great day!
10:15 I think I would've gone typhoon here... you had giant specialist so Vulcan is a waste of the free unit card. You could have plunked down 3 typhoon and 2-3 Vulcans in one turn, giving you more chaff clear, extra antiair and some good upgrade options
You make a good case for Typhoons here. I was a little worried they'd just get stuck on the Rhinos, which the Vulcans did too. Think my reasoning was that the Vulcans still have a 15m Splash on their flamethrowers so they still catch some Crawlers at the same time but you're right as Giant Specialist I had the free unlocks anyway so I shouldn't be picking a Giant from the free cards.
Feel like we were too greedy this game, didn't respect the chaff battle early on and got punished hard. Facing the level 3 Rhinos was a new experience for me - just assumed Chaff + Melting Point would be enough to hold the line but he found a nice answer to that play. Was a good learning game for me but disappointed in hindsight!
The lack of chaff clear was obviously bad but I really don't understand the crawler turn. Replicate and flanking with crawlers was so wierd there. Wraiths or even Overlords would have been the best imo. And shield those Fangs!
Yeah, was thinking "oooh Strike Specialist! He's going to try and distract my chaff" so thought we'd do the same thing. Was an attempt to force a response but clearly it didn't work :D
I like to imagine that the one dislike on the video is Editing DRN raging against Playing DRN.

I've recently really been liking the fire badgers. They're tanky enough to throw a wrench into a lot of enemies, anything short of a pheonix they just do not care (including low level marksmen) and anything short of scorpions has trouble eating through their tankiness. That's alongside being like buying a vulcan and a half... Damn vulcans are bad.
Swap those vulcans for 3 sandworms, though, and I think you turn it. The worms have great AOE. Melee my ass they've got like a 20 meter cone for their range it's frankly a bit overtuned. I've kinda been struggling to learn how to deal with them past 'be spread out'.
This entire game: "I need chaff clear" as you proceed to not get chaff clear.
As for myself, I've been trying to play more seriously recently so I can break 1k. What it's quickly teaching me is I have terrible positioning. My unit picks are reasonable, not perfect but usually not completely wrong. I just make alot of placement mistakes.
Hmmm, I'll be honest the level 3 Rhinos put me off from going Worm here because I'm not sure a level 1 Worm beats an Orange Rhino. I'm not the best with Worms yet but yeah I defo shouldn't have thought about it in isolation as we already had the Melting Points. The Worm would've held them up long enough for the Melting Points to do their job and so you'r right, they would've been a good pick. Thanks!
@@Drone_101 the rhino itself I *think* the armor tips the scale. It's not an interaction I've seen. Everything within a dozen meters of the rhino, however, is dust. I cannot understate how huge that damn AOE is. It would have done *way* better vs your chaff problem than the poor man's badger, and it would have atleast lasted long enough against the rhino itself to get the MP onto target
@@sensha5470 Haha, it's a crazy world where we're calling the Vulcan the poor man's Badger and not the other way around! :D Will try and give the Worms more of a fair shake in future, thanks for the tip.
Why Vulcan Range instead of +125% damage. Tagging things a couple seconds earlier probably wasn't worth it given how close in things were.
Yep, Range wasn't the best choice here - was thinking maybe we can clear the Crawlers quicker by hitting them farther out but clearly it failed miserably!
I think that personally, you lost due to more or less countering yourself
When you saw yourself struggling with chaff, you didn't go Vulcan till it was offered. When you saw rhinos running through, instead of either going wraith - degen for a combo of slowdown and chaff clear or a fortress in the way just to tank their hits, instead being overencumbered by melting point at the start (with no techs!) and later buying too many vulcans
When you saw your enemy going replicating high tier crawlers, you also went mass fang with mechanical rage, which just makes them run in front and die, producing even more underground crawlers, where you'd want your chaff to be slow if anything
I'm not a mechabellum player myself, so i may be wrong, and snd if you disagree please feel free to do so in the comments! I just like analyzing things, and enjoy it if other people disagree and analyze my words with their perspective
Think you're pretty much spot on. The only point I'd make is Mech Rage fangs can repell Crawlers but here they were a bad choice because they got stuck on the Rhino Armor tech upgrade. Wasn't my best game, but was a good lesson and showcase of Elite Rhinos though :D
