Love this unit. Own one since many years.
With a 1999 RF600a4 for front speakers and rear subwoofer.
Only down side for my usage, there's no track info through Bluetooth. So you won't see the song name, artist or anything. Just "Bluetooth audio" and a blank screen.
This video and reading the comments makes me want to just put a CD in these and enjoy..
A good unit bit the best single din audiphile units havent been updates since 2013, currently the 80/99prs and the Alpine 178-bt are still top dogs and they are 2013 products! If i was starting a build today i would get a simple headunit that has an optical out, hook it up via the optical cable to a DSP such as an Audison bit one HD and do all my processing in there.
This is the best single din head unit you can get in 2017 under $300..cheap build quality but the cleanest crisp sound and loud AF no distortion..

Well, it is 2019 now.....and the 80-prs is STILL arguably the best single DIN head unit you can get for under $300. That is awesome and really sad all at the same time. This thing came out in 2012!!! I suppose it has reached legendary status. Kind of like how the McLaren F1 was basically the best supercar in the world for over a decade until the Veyron came along. Yet like the 80-PRS many to this day would still pick the Mclaren....because it simply sounded better.

Pioneer DEH-P920R was the Ipitimy of Pioneer Decks, that one had 6V Pre-Out's a alarm system, a display that would rival most single dins today!~

I have had mine for 6 years it's still awsome the clean crisp quality sound I have it on my mb quart 6.5 copanent speakers with cross overs tweeters pioneer rear 4x6 in Silverado 6 speaker set up fixing to add my subs back in from when done comps so ill be enjoying it more for years to come maybe get 99 prs later oh it does recognize my samsung s21 ultra on Bluetooth shows name of phone as galaxy s21 ultra 😉

Pioneer needs to release this head unit as a double din with full android capabilities. Not sure why they havent yet. They got the avh and nex line but they dont have all these features or an eq that goes below 50hz

Sorry but the sheer clarity and sound quality of pioneer wont be beaten, trust me ive tried, it even beats my home system.
I have this head unit and in active mode with the right components and amps it has unreal sound quality. If someone can't make this unit sound great, they don't know what they are doing. Don't use the auto eq/time alignment, do it manually. If you don't understand time alignment, crossover points, slopes, driver gains, and eq settings, then this is not the unit for you. This is the 2 way active little brother to the P99RS which is 3 way active. The 80PRS is 1/4 the price of the P99RS and does 90% of the same features.

Bart Swisher I still use this deck: infinity's in the doors. Yamaha's in the kick panels. Powered by an old school ppi 4ch amp. 2 Skar audio subs powered by a Skar rp1500.1d all in an old 91 yota truck with a million feet of sound deadener. Pure acoustic joy!

So in single DIN this unit is probably one of the best Pioneers has or is there another unit made by Pioneer Premiere that is better cuz I have an old Pioneer Premiere that looks almost identical to this setup and has all the setups for bass and treble and adjustment equalizes and it's still a great unit

It amazes me that top of the line “audiophile” head units don’t support flac. This and HD radio would make this a perfect radio. Who cares about Bluetooth, wma, and mp3 support. There’s nothing audiophile about those technologies.
Flac is great but very expensive.
DEH PR80S has been the #1 & go to head unit for SQ competition for almost a decade for a reason.
Nothing to compare to at any price.
Head units 2Xs, 3Xs the price dont work as well or sound as good.

Car audio is a vague shadow of the peak of audiophile ICE. Alpine, Clarion and Becker were true high end units. Even if you can get the best in the market now, the compression and digital nature of music, means you are putting crude oil, through a Formula One car. So many are unaware of the vast gulf, between expensive mass market units and actual Hi-Fi. When someone hears true audiophile quality for the first time, it is electrifying and makes you kick yourself for being so ignorant.
I want two, one for my car and one for my room.

People, FLAC isnt that big of a deal. WAV is also a lossless format, and can be stored on an SD card the same as FLAC. So unless you are pirating your FLAC files, just rip your CDs to WAV, put em on SD, and call it a day.
No metadata on WAVs, Flac is 50% smaller in size, sounds the same and 90% have already ripped their music. It's a deal breaker for loads of people.

Well going by torrent sites alone all their 'lossless' stuff is pretty much exclusively flac namely due to space saving server capacity, so anyone downloading lossless will do so in flac as opposed to wav. If I were to rip into WAV i'd need another 3TB hard drive. Also the fact that when purchasing digital music legitimately it is actually more expensive in WAV, only be a few pence or cents than FLAC and MP3 respectively, is likely another reason for people to opt for flac.
put the flac files on your phone and play them via blutooth or aux. problem solved
Aux will likely use the phones dac and bluetooth is fine but still limited in storage to how much capacity your phone has.
I got one that I use as a paperweight now cause the ic controller burnt out... not to mention they still used the pico fuse on this

The 880prs had a copper chassis
when used in 3 way mode there is -24db separation however is this further increased by the graphic EQ or does the EQ go out the window in 3 way mode, reason I ask is doesn't seem worth it when a plus minus 12db eq creates an equal -24db separation between frequencies
About sound settings Alpine did it 12 years ago with cda-9855r but I gonna buy this pioneer only for bluetooth and usb.

Agreed. Nothing on the market comes close except the Sony RS9 and the other would of course be the Pioneer 99. 80PRS still the cleanest bang for the buck in 2020.
I love the natural preset on this and it has clarity like iPhone earphones on my stock 04 frontier speakers + basic 500w alpine amp and rockford p2 10". I kind of want more depth though so any links on a 10" T2?

I'm just after winning an ebay auction for one of these. The only reservation I have is that I read there are some bluetooth connectivity issues with it, and this is my preferred way of listening to music, through my phone. Is there anything I can do to address this?

Something is wrong here. I own a DEH-80PRS. Mine has x 3 rca outputs and when run in network mode has a 3 way active crossover up to 24 db slopes. It also plays flac files

It is a CD/Media receiver. This right now is the best you can get in car audio. This was released in 2012? While ago but still the best. Even better than alpines flag ship HU to date.

i have the DEH-P880PRS and it was bangin and now the door stuck half way open and i need some new and i remember i bought it cuz it had more volts then any thing else but iam seein today no radios advertise the pre out volts witch is the most important thing.. more volts better sound
They all advertise their Pre-Amp output voltage, however if the radio's actually meet the specification listed is a whole other question entirely
I love this head unit matter of fact I have it sitting in the shed for about 2 years I sold the F-150 that it was in. I hava a 2019 Nissan frontier now has that touch screen with the camera the radio is crappy as hell don't get loud enough the only reason why I still have it in there because it have that backup camera I may try to see if I can relocate the pioneer in another spot. I just use the touch screen just for the backup screen that's it that pioneer unity has Bluetooth very powerful I will never sell mine

But, but, how is the tuner???? Can you Dx on this thing? The spec sheet says FM Sensitivity is 9 dBf. This is much lower ( a good thing ) than its little brother, the DEH-X8800BHS @11.2 dbf. I want to know if the extra sensitivity is worth double the price? As a serious DXer, I would really like to know if the tuner is really this good. Lastly, how is AM on this unit?

Nice bro ! Hey I have pioneer deh-2290ub in my car, whenever i play songs using USB then songs are playing in a sequence even though the "RANDOM" option is set to "ON". It is not working as how the shuffle work in phones. Also, it still play the same sequence even if i set the RANDOM to "OFF". Example i have songs list A,B,C,D,E and the song plays in the sequence of "C,E,D,A,B" and this is the sequence it play all the time... How to overcome this and make it work as how the shuffle option works in phone that every time it plays random songs, please let me know if you have any idea ?

It has 2 power wires. The yellow is to the battery (memory). Always on, That one keeps your settings and the time. The Red power wire is to a switched power supply (ignition), that comes on when the car it on (running or in accessory mode). It turns the radio on and off with the car.

What a sad day we live in when it comes to Single DIN audiophile mobile audio. We have the DEH-80PRS from Pioneer vs the CDE-HD149BT from Alpine. The pioneer released in 2012, and the Alpine released in 2013.........neither can play FLAC. The DEH-80PRS sounds better but has a display that was basically around since 2003 and has a UI that is quite frustrating and not intuitive at all. The 149 has WAY better UI, sounds OK but nowhere near the level of the 80, can play Sat Radio AND HD Radio......but still this heap is from 2013!! I miss the single DIN wars of yesteryear. If PIONEER could update the DEH-80PRS so it could play FLAC and have a display even the level of some of their 2018 models that cost only $100 then it would be a no brainer. No HD radio kinda kills it for me, and no FLAC is sad. Still, throw a CD in the 80, turn up the volume and you kinda forget about all of it's shortcomings.....and I suppose that is the whole point.

So it has 3 RCA preouts. If I want to add one active tweeters in front, I need one set for those, one set for then front mids and then one set for subwoofer. How to run the rear door speakers then?

Is Pioneer ever going to put out and updated version of this radio? It's hard to find a single din with these features; time alignment, etc. It's probably the only radio I want to put in my car, but it's sooo outdated at this point.

The SQ really blows my mind! But their Menu UI really a hot mess. Like they made their UI compatible with alien. Confusing and to much sub menus.

It already has a built in 28-Bit Binary Floating-Point DSP and 3-Way Digital Network. If you don't have enough bands you should consider an external DSP

You say "put it in network mode" then show the standard mode adjustments. Those slopes and filters you showed were not network mode.
20 years old softwear paired with a squeaky, plasticky front panel. The USB ports and the bluetooth can not save the batch. Time to move on, Pioneer...
you are soooooo wrong...this is a really good sounding head unit for the money...if you want to step it up to the dex p99rs..you will have the best head unit you can buy at the moment...only because the alpine F1 status is not sold anymore...

Used as my competition head unit for years. The built in active cross over and Burr Brown DAC are the best you can get. Blew all my Alpine head units out of the water!

Possibly never. Pioneer discontinued their high-end audio in 2017. Too many phone fanboys touting their MP3's and car factory integrated phone chargers. They don't know what SQ is.

It's a gamble, based on what we have seen, my bet is no. I have had some old Alpine, Clarion, Eclipse, Denon decks that I cannot believe what they sell for and have basically given away. The PRS is a smooth operator. The next is the Sony RSX-GS9, she's bad.......
