    Thank you very much for doing this. I really wanted to see how they put the tank steering in the bulk…

    I really beleive the braking will be better with independent braking. Ive noticed that having the single lever i cant really get the tires to skid on dry pavement also theres a noticeable delay, but in my open trike that had 90mm drum brakes i was able to get them to skid quite easily. And even slam the cranks into the ground wen i had to use them in an emergency. I think it's because the brake lever that does both brakes on tiller steering doesnt give enough leverage to operate both brakes at full force. But if u hit brakes too hard it may slam the nose into the ground. Also with independent braking u can brake one side harder than the other in a turn to help corner better. You also have would full leverage on each side. I would be surprised if having independent brakes didnt improve braking performance. You could do the same braking setup on tiller but it would take up a lot of space on the tiller and ur legs might hit it. And i think thats cool that they sealed off the wheel wells. But with how many micro adjustments u have to do while riding with every pedal stroke it makes me wonder how long the seal would last b4 it wears out and whether or not the seal is readiky available. Id be interested in trying one with tank steering. Id prefer it to be tighter fit than looser. Its an even looser fit in my bülk now that my colar bone is shorter on one side.

      I use different pressure on each wheel when breaking in turns on my catrike. It does seem like that would be something to consider on a velomobile to avoid rollover on turns. Do any tiller steering velos have separate braking on the front wheels or is that only on tank steering as seen in this video?

      @@glenn_r_frank_author from what ive seen mist velos with tiller steering have 1 lever that controls both front brakes so they have to be adjusted to apply the same force at the same time. Its like 2 brake levers that have been cut to half their length and then welded together. You can attempt to. Mount brakes horizontally in the tiller and have independently controlled brakes but u run the risk of hitting them with ur knees. I had a shifter mounted horizontally and my knee would hit it and shift it. So i mounted it horizontally.

      I will be at CycleCon with Velomobile World in Xenia, OH in September. We still have spots for client orders in the container we are shipping. €500 shipping, people to help you set up the velomobile, and we now offer the 4 More with a starting price of €5499. Maybe we can help make your dream a reality? Some really good riding in Ohio, especially with the trail system you have.

    Not sure this tank steering will work well for shorter riders though being far forward. I love the tiller a lot too.

      @mnveloguy  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have no idea. Maybe on the right wheel well, but I’m not sure if the signal would be strong enough. I’ve never tested it. That’s another reason I prefer tiller steering.

    I am curious about the tank steering on a Bülk My experience with recumbents is mostly riding a linkage steering Terratrike (which has a rotation of handles around a center pivot) and currently a direct steering Catrike which is more of a shift handles left or right. I have never tried a tiller steering mechanism and it seems like it would feel very foreign to me. But the tank steering appears to be more like a pull forward or back motion on each handle. I THINK that would feel more natural to me but it is different from the other trike steering I have used. Do you have any feedback from customers who have gone from a trike to a Velomobile about their learning curve or preferences on tiller vs tank steering? or any personal feedback on how you came to your preference?

    • @mnveloguy
      @mnveloguy  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve had a few clients wonder if the feel from a trike would carry over, but really it’s a different enough steering action that I don’t think it makes a difference tiller vs tank when coming from a trike. To me it is a question of ergonomics and where you want your arms. I personally prefer tiller. I like to hang my arms over the sides and sit upright when I climb hills. I generate more power that way. I also like have a cooling breeze on my arms in hotter weather. Because I commute and run errands with my velomobile, I also don’t want to lose the storage space along the side that gets taken up by tank steering. And finally, the arm position of tank steering bothers my back. It’s entirely personal preference. Tank steering costs more as well. As far as handling and getting the feel of it, I don’t think it matters. They both handle the same to me.

      @@TheFlamingEyeball depends on what you consider an upgrade. The Bülk is faster with a lower center of gravity, easier to adjust seat, better airflow with the hood, and tank steering. Depends on if those things constitute an upgrade to you. Quite a lot of DFXL riders have switched since the Bülk came out. I believe Ymte sold about 6 DFXL’s last year and only 1 or 2 this year.
