MERCURY VILLAGER KNOCK SENSOR FIX 1999-2002 CODE P0325

  • THE KNOCK SENSOR WILL NOT CHANGE OR IMPROVE THE RUNNING OF THE ENGINE EXCEPT UNDER RARE CIRCUMSTANCES IF EVER. But if its toasted it makes it impossible to analyze other codes since it will throw out extraneous codes. If the code is on it will not pass emissions is the big thing. Put time into trying to get a couple inches out of that wire before cutting.

    Thank you so much, Jeff. It took me a while; just couldn't bring myself to cut that wire, but your comment about the guy that climbed Yosemite without ropes was just the encouragement I needed. Your presentation was accurate and clear and worked on a 2000 Nissan Quest. Cleared the code P0325 and now we're all happy.

    Thank you for the very detailed video. Not sure why this job has created so much hesitation in my mind. However, part of it is the false information or partially correct videos. This one shows everything with great detail!
    Thanks again! I will do this either tomorrow or on New Years 2023!!!

    Just did this work around to my 2000 Nissan Quest that had error codes pointing to the KS. The engine during idle was always "hunting" for an idle speed. Relocating/replacing the knock sensor has greatly improved my old van. No repair shop ever came up with this work around. So happy you pointed to the #6 wire as the one to tap into. Everything went smoothly and was done in less than 30 minutes!

      YOUR WELCOME--glad to save people the money. Shops quoting prices of a thousand or more is scam. Not only that but once they get the vehicle in--they know good and well they can get $2000 by saying everything else is wrong. "Oh and uh oh yeah--we noticed this rubber hose has a split--thats $300 more or we wont proceed with the knock sensor fix" makes me mad even to talk about it

    Thanks for the video. I just relocated the knock sensor on my daughter's 1999 Mercury Villager and the code went away. Hopefully, it will pass inspection now! It has almost 300,000 miles on it and I have worked quite a bit on it as needed.

      yes let me know how it goes but it will go great. I was worried about the connectors being as bad as the old ones plus the trouble but getting the correct connector or robbing them from a vehicle of course is easier. The knock sensor generally wont affect the running of the vehicle much--but it triggers the other codes making it impossible to diagnose whether the items are bad or not. Also check your CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR--and plug in. If thats bad it will make the van run boggy The sensor itself is solid state and is not an item to really go bad. It will be the connector.

    Van is still going strong--has never run better a year later. That knock sensor code caused a nightmare for years. I kept getting codes such as "short somewhere maybe in transmission?"--and my lights and blinkers would do strange things then go back normal. My headlights would act dim like they were dying then come back to normal. My turn signals would stop working unless I hit the 4 way flashers then shut it off then they worked again. I also had issues that the battery would bleed down while parked with a new battery. I had told people for a couple years "it seems like something is shorted someplace but I cant find it" IT WAS THE KNOCK SENSOR

    Another guy posted a similar video and also pointed to the same connection of wires to the KS you did, So I am going to try. Hopefully it works. I have a 1999 Nissan Quest with that same code. The car runs choppy when idling at a light and temperature of vehicle is lower that the middle of the Gauge. My mechanic wants $275 to change that sensor since Nissan decided to bury the damn thing under the intake valve (idiots). My mechanic will have to kiss that money good buy for now. Thanks for the informative video and the help. I really appreciate guys like you that put these videos out.

    Currently working on this very project. I was able to find a KS with the wire and connecters included for just under $16. It included a dummy ground wire that I just removed, and clipped the useless plug off the end. Unfortunately the included wire is a little short, so I'll have to make two connections, but this save me the hassle of modifying a plug and trying to seal it.

    Worked like a charm I actually cut the front junction box wire #6 instead of the back, had gotten a knock sensor relocation kit on amazon ($15) that said it was for quest but was not the right part. Once I got the right sensor amazon ($8.99) and got the recommended pigtail from O'Reilly's ($7.99) I wired it up and the code was immediately gone. TIP for anyone doing this if you have utility knife dont cut up your pigtail housing just cut off the fins on the sensor and cut down the housing will make the sensor fit snuggly in the pigtail secure with epoxy.

  • @jaygold4467
    @jaygold4467 ปีที่แล้ว

    Okay, I just did this and it works. Only I did it from the FRONT of the connector which is much easier. Just cut the third wire down from the top, which is the WHITE wire. It's right below the red wire. I used a butt connector. Put the new knock sensor in the space shown. No more trouble code 325.

    • @AnselmMak
      @AnselmMak 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@carlorocky To be honest, find any place on the block with an unused thread, and it would probably work. I installed mine between the ignition coil and distributor cap.
      The knock sensor is basically like a microphone, and if there's a good mechanical connection to the block, it will pick up any problems with the ignition timing.
      Edit: I no longer have this van, so I can't get new photos.

    • @phantomvibrationsX
      @phantomvibrationsX  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      CONGRATULATIONS---how many seconds did you pause before you snipped?? For me I stood there about a minute--and finally snipped. I intend to improve the video showing that the wire is deeply buried and you have to pull it out with something and cut back on the big conduit to get as much as you can--even then reach in and cut jabbing the cutters in as far as possible and simply abandoning the cut butt of the old wire--it wont touch anything anyway.

    • @phantomvibrationsX
      @phantomvibrationsX  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      report back some time just to show people the code instantly goes out. Of course a persons vehicle could have other problems. But the fix is good as gold as far as the knock sensor --it totally removes it from the equation for about $25 not TWO THOUSAND to take the engine apart.

    • @phantomvibrationsX
      @phantomvibrationsX  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will be shortening the video and updating it so at the start it warns people that the knock sensor does not affect the running of the engine and it will not make the engine run better. What it does is makes the code go out plus several other codes so that parts dont get replaced that dont need it such as I did over a period of years. Of course if the sensor is bad as mine was--it gives so many codes that you cannot figure out real issues with the vehicle. It also of course makes the vehicle fail emissions since the test cant show up any codes. I will also update the video to show that a person could in fact simply splice into the wire on the FRONT of the harness plug in. The harness is not electronic--the knock sensor wire just passes through it. I likely will leave this video intact since there is alot of good info including in the comments that could help someone Main thing is--KNOCK SENSOR DOES NOT AFFECT THE RUNNING OF THE ENGINE. it only adjusts timing under very rare conditions such as towing a boat up a hill in summer with bad gas that got put in. Other then that under normal running it does not improve the running of the engine unless knock or ping develops--which is quite rare

      @dennishickey3448 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jeff, I am getting ready to do this. Are you 100% sure the wire can be cut in the front of the harness? Seems much easier that way.

    • @jaysilverheals4445
      @jaysilverheals4445 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      virtually 100% certain--actually I felt stupid that I did not do that--however since I didnt I cannot testify to it. Im certain the wire simply "passes through"--that nothing takes place inside the connector.

  • @phantomvibrationsX
    @phantomvibrationsX  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    also the knock sensor was gotten at car parts dat kom its sitting right there for $13. I also called and discussed with them at great length that the 4 sensors that come up--are in fact identical factory sensors. It will however take about 4 or 5 days till it arrives to your mailbox. It arrives by normal mail in a puffy envelope into your box

    A BAD KNOCK SENSOR THROWS OFF THE VEHICLES COMPUTER CAUSING IT TO CONSTANTLY ADJUST YOUR FUEL MIXTURE WHICH KILLS YOUR MILEAGE AND POSSIBLY OVERLOAD YOUR CATALYTIC CONVERTER, WHICH IS MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR.
    That being said, I made this change about two years ago. It's an excellent "work around." My only suggestion is to go with the more expensive Knock Sensor.
    I used a $10.00 Knock Sensor I bought on Amazon because it was much cheaper. Today I got the P0325 code again. (Knock Sensor malfunction) I'm on my way to NAPA to buy the $50.00 sensor. I'm guessing/hoping it will last much longer.

      actually you only need to run EITHER of the wires and connect it to the cut wire--however I put keep track of the wires so the person will work with confidence that everything is hooked up the same . The sensor is grounded through the computer. But the ground wire under the distributor bolt looks good and professional. Some people may feel "how do I know the signals may tickle the distributor??

    After cutting the wire, which end needs to be hooked up to the new KS?

    • @jaysilverheals4445
      @jaysilverheals4445 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      actually it does not matter which wire--however i did point out which wire in 2 different spots. Also the ground wire--that can be snipped off and thrown away since the sensor is grounded to itself when you bolt it down. That being said it was safer to show in the video to simply hook the wires up the same way or else it would cause confusion since people would be worried. The knock sensor is a microphone -a small crystal that creates micro voltage from vibrations--actually makes no difference when wire a person attaches to the cut wire.
