    The film does make it more guessable who Rorschach is. It gives a lot more focus to the red hair guy whenever he shows up, while he is more often just in the background with other recurring characters in the comic. Plus the comic gives much more focus to just regular people on the street, like the newstand guy, or the kid with the pirate comics, or the lesbian couple, so he doesn't stand out as much from them.

  • @bighuge1060
    @bighuge1060 3 ปีที่แล้ว +60

    Rorschach's mask (which he refers to as his "face") consisted of a specialized fabric, one that was actually two layers of fabric with viscous black and white fluids trapped between them. The fluids remained in constant motion, being affected by heat and pressure, however, the black and white colors never combined to form gray. The patterns formed by the fluids also maintained a consistent symmetrical pattern down the mid-line of whatever shape the fabric had been formed into.
    Kovacs first discovered the fabric when he worked for a dressmaker. The fabric was originally made into a woman's dress and the marketing of such a product would be linked to Dr. Manhattan. The product's first customer was a woman named Kitty Genovese, who was unhappy with the dress, calling it "ugly" and refused to buy it. Kovacs thought differently however, and took possession of the fabric for himself, saying it was "very beautiful." At home he used heated instruments to shape the fabric into a full head covering, a face he "could look at in the mirror."
    (Kitty Genovese was the woman who was murdered in NY and none of the residents who heard the screams helped or even called the police. True story.)

      @grife3000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was also implied that the presence of Dr. Manhattan and his advances made in science were what made this particular weird morphy (yet obviously see-thru from one side) fabric to be possible, IIRC.

      The story you are telling about the murder of Kitty Genovese is inaccurate, based on an irresponsible article published by the New York Times two weeks after the murder. The number of supposed bystanders was inflated, and the fact that at least one person called the cops was overlooked or ignored.
      Feel free to check around online, since TH-cam won't let us link to articles or anything. I was pretty irritated to find out about the hyperbole myself.

    Originally Alan Moore (the writer of the graphic novel) wanted to use established characters that were originally in Charlton Comics (a small publisher that DC had just purchased in the early '80s). So Dr. Manhattan was originally going to be Captain Atom, Nite Owl was going to be the Blue Beetle, Rorschach was going to be The Question, and The Comedian was going to be Peacemaker (yep, the character that John Cena played in The Suicide Squad). DC higher ups had plans for some of these characters so they told Moore he couldn't use them...

    For Nixon being always reelected, the point is that, having people with super powers working for them, the American government won the Vietnam war and the country never had to reevaluate its place in the world scenery and its values at all. Without that, the 1950's All-American self image and ultra conservatism never quite faded out.

As I recall, it is very a thin layer of white, sandwiching a middle layer of heat-motivated liquid under a transparent layer. It has been too long for me to remember whether ith is actually explained somewhere, or just some spitball I did with a friend after reading the graphic novel.

    Watchmen is not for everyone, is based in a graphic novel, so expect some unusual stuff in this live film. The addition of showing the assassin beat the crap out of the Comedian in the beginning is one of the best additions the movie added. I remember reading the book and watching a motion comic before the movie came out and being absolutely shook when they opened with a full fight scene between the two. I was absolutely hooked immediately and when the Bob Dylan track came on after, I was like “this is going to be amazing.” And it was.
    The giant squid being cut was sorta strange, as Bubastis the cat made absolutely no sense with that cut. His lynx was a dead give away of the villan’s plot staring you in the face the whole time. Still, a very good adaption.

    I really enjoy this movie. It's not the typical superhero story. Based on a graphic novel, it really captures a nice balance between realism and surrealism. Another excellent film adapted from a graphic novel is Frank Miller's Sin City. It's definitely unique and absolutely worth watching 🤘

    Comic book: yeah he teleports them away. Some die of the shock/disorientation
    Movie: Snyder said he vaporized them. Which i like better. Antagonizing a god just doesn't seem like the best of ideas. If the dude says "leave me alone" you might just want to stop being a twat and leave them alone.

    Nixon's extra terms may or may not have been a result of the superheroes in the world. In their reality, Woodward and Bernstein were assassinated, preventing the country from souring on the president while also allowing him to continue his campaign rigging tactics. The Comedian denied the murder in the comics, but who knows. Without Watergate, it's easily conceivable that the country could fall into fascist patriotic rhetoric. I mean sadly VERY believable.
    Veidt's assassin was a normal shot presumably. He was contracted only to kill Veidt; all of the shots that hit other people were just random misses. I think the gory hits are all due to the dark fascinations of Zach Snyder, as they probably "look cool in slow motion."

    The route of Creationist theory states that a watch has a watchmaker or it does not exist, so for earth to exist it must have been made by a creator at some level. Manhattan is saying there's no watchmaker, there's no god.

    The movie never touches the subject.. BUT.. Rorschach's mask was created by Dr. Manhattan as a favor for him.. It doesn't change anytthing in the story, but mayn people, understandably are confused (is the world magical or not) and the answer is no, except Dr. Manhattan. They should of made it clear that none of the protagonists are anything but well trained humans.. The only supernatural is Dr. Manhattan and possibly Ozymandias but he's not invincible, he just handles things...

    23:52- this is the third time in two different reactions Mrs said physics is confusing, but what you mean is: metaphysics is confusing. Physics is very simple, logical, empirical, and sensible. Metaphysics are conceptual ideas about “realities” that don’t exist. That’s why you think they are confusing: because they aren’t real but you think they are and reality is conflicting with imagination.
