On my must buy list! I have a similar Conklin All American, and it constantly dried all the time. I applied a very small and unnoticeable amount of super glue where the clip inserts into the cap, and my pen never dries out, even when in an upright position for weeks unused.
So is the shape and dimension exactly the same as the all american? Does the resin feel different ? I mean other than colour, like its weight or feel on touch
I have this in purple with an extra fine nib and while I love the look and feel of it, I have had nothing but trouble writing with it. When it does write it’s great but after just a little while it stops. I’ve cleaned it and changed ink to no avail. I’ve seen other folks’ online reviews saying the same thing. I’m thinking of changing the nib to a medium and keeping my fingers crossed that that will work.
Thanks for sharing! i have tried all the nibs and they all dry on me. I have even tried them with inks that are not supposed to dry easily to no avail. There must be something in those All-American caps that are not air tight. A real pity.
Conklin are on a winner with the 1898 - it will be very popular. I have a number of these pens with the Al American bodies. I prefer the Stub and Omniflex nibs.
Ciao Vincenzo. Thanks for your reviews. They are excellent. As an Italian I appreciate all the Italian pen reviews. Unfortunately most of these italian pens are outside my price point. I tend to buy italian vintage and check out brick and mortar pen stores when I am in Italy. I see that this video still lhas the camera focusing issue. I was thinking that if you set a larger F (i.e. F8 or F16 manually in the camera) and increase the ISO to compensate for lower exposure you might achieve full focus at all distances. Right now the camera switches focus from the page to your hands when you write. Maybe with a tighter F it won't do that and close up will still work. Just just an idea to try. Take care and congratulations for a year of great reviews. saluti from LA. Ciao.
Thanks for your advice. I have since changed cameras for my most recent videos. But I will go back and use your tip. After all the camera is a Sony A7IV and it should not happen, if you know what to do with it.
My daughter gave me the purple rollerball version of this pen. It has rose gold furnishings, and the antiqued cap band is especially attractive. It writes very well too.
Just bought the Misto Orange, with a Medium Nib and it definitely does not write well from the box. I am trying to tune it slightly but may have to buy a new nib 😢
I have the purple and green versions. Nice weight, the resins are beautiful cans the nib is more than acceptable. I know the resin for each pen will be different but there is not even a hint of green on the green pen!
Not really. Check my measurement table and my pen comparison . Its almost just as long as the Nautilus. essentially they are the same model as the Conklin All-American.
Thanks for this review, Vincent. Just received a gift of the Misto Orange with a 14 K Omniflex nib
They are very lovely pens, great shape, and size, but I just cannot solve the Conklin dry nib issue
Great review. Thanks a million👍
My pleasure!

Great tip! I will try it because I have the same complaint.

Love your work.
Glad to hear it! Really appreciate the kind words.

That design is my favorite as well and now with the mixed resin even better.

The real issue with those Conklin All Americans is that whatever nib you put in they simply dry up too quickly.
How does this pen compare in size with the All American?
Its essentially the same design, but there is that nice band added and it is slightly girthier than the All-American

People like are doing nothing to help me reduce my spending on fountain pens :) Nice review and a beautiful pen
You and me both!
Isn't it too short?
Not really. Check my measurement table and my pen comparison . Its almost just as long as the Nautilus. essentially they are the same model as the Conklin All-American.
The nib is #6?
Has this pen dried up on you?
All my Conklin pens dry up on me. I just don't know what it is about those pens. I have tried all kinds of inks and no success.
