I’m not sure if it’s anyone mentioned it but in the beginning her voice changes to match her outfits! Senchou Marine is the standard (as in we immediately know it’s Marine talking) voice, her new outfit has a more energetic voice, New Years outfit has the “ara ara” voice, and her Gothic Lolita voice is higher pitched; and during the chorus all of these voices combine! I thought this was super neat
The fact she can go right back to her old way of speaking is great, and makes it seem like an upgrade/evolution than a loss of something. Plus it means that her vocal chords will remain healthy.

Didn't know about it, I dont really watch hololive. But I remember that Hoshimachi Suisei also had to change in order for her voice to stay healthy. Being a voice actor is good and all, but doing a voice for a long long time can be straining apparently. I am happy to see that Marine's community also sees it as something positive(I mean they want Marine's va to stay healthy). Imagine if someone wanted to be a fiddlestick(league of legends character) vtuber and did the voice 5 days a week 3-4 hours per stream, that would kill their voice within a week probably. Aiming for longevity is much better no matter the outcome in terms of roleplay. Edit: confirmed that nowadays Senchou's voice is a little bit softer and not as "spiky".
Yunomi has such a recognizable style man, took me 15 seconds to think "this isn't Yunomi right?". Love Marine's singing too, her voice and tone is so soothing to listen to and i also love the fact that the arrangement makes Marine's voice stick out like crazy and essentially makes her the carrying instrument throughout the whole song.
Im not too familiar with japanese artists - but i just looked up Yunomi after seeing this and realized he did the OP for Tonikaku Kawaii's (Tonikowa's over the moon) and it blew my mind. still an all time anime OP for me (one of the very few i listened to outside the show) - praying either marine or ayame covers it one day. They are entirely different but both INSANELY infectious

I wouldn't say they're entirely different, they share the solo vocalist shining throughout the song, they also share the minimalistic intro approach and both songs explode in the chorus, although Unison takes an additional chorus to fully explode. But mostly they share Yunomis sound, his synths and drums sound very personal.

aggreed! Even though I think within hololive Korone's 1st original is just as unique. But in the wider music field the instrumentals in this song here are just much more unique, whereas korone's song is "just typical" 8-Bit Stuff. Don't get me wrong, I love Korone's song, and I think her's might be more "on-brand" than this. But this is all in all just super unique. I would be hard pressed to point out anything with even remotely similar instrumentals, whereas I have a (small-ish) portfoiio of 8-bit artists. Haven't listened to every song from every Holomem obviously, this is just arguing me from my limited experience and perspective. And to the people praising Aki: I think her song is very good. However "making" a new language isn't too hard if you just go for alphabet and vocab swaps. It's nothing like what Phyrexian supposedly is, for example. Where WotC apparently hired linguists to actually create a language with lots of difference from actual human languages, to signify the inhumanity of the faction that "speaks" it. That is not to say that it's a great and applaudeable effort for a (maybe) novice to make a custom language, even though it may mostly constist of alphabet and vocab swaps.

Alright. This song has been stuck in my head since it came out, largely because of the relatively experimental opening. What makes it especially interesting is the metrical dissonance used from the beginning until the chorus starts. In short, there are competing meters until it's relatively stable at ~1:25. Though it begins with 4 bars of an unproblematic 4/4 four-on-the-floor kick, the next four bars add a counter-rhythm that plays against (though is still within) the framework of common time. But the rhythm of Marine's singing doesn't adhere to this structure. Not only are the phrases irregular (I count her opening as 11+9+8+(5+1) against the four-on-the-floor kick, for instance), they're also syncopated (off the beat [not unusual in pop songs, but this is moreso than is common]), as well as frequently elided--overlapping--so there isn't a rhythmic cadence that clearly ends on a strong beat on a consistent measure until about --1:01-- which I hear as a repeated 3-4-1-- on 交代だ (the repeated "koutai da"). But this is shown to be "wrong" when "Please Mr. Silence" (プリーズ、ミスターサイレンス) comes in (1:11) as a pickup 3-4&-1 with Silence falling on beat 1 and starting the "true" measure (but which contradicts my perceived 3-4-1 of koutai da). But the point of the opening of this song is literally to disorient the listener so that there isn't a consistent and obvious meter. I.e., there are layered meters which make it difficult to say if there's a "right" answer. That's what makes this song so hypnotizing! There are even sections of the opening that adhere to some sense of 4/4 for a bit, but they're inevitably disrupted. Anyways, if you want to bob your head along, this is the counting structure I came up with for the beginning: (intro) 8+8, 8+8, (Marine comes in:) 11+9+8+(5+1), 3+4+4+4+5+(8+3), (lots of normal 4s!) 4+4+4+4+4+4+8, 3+4+6+4+7+(4+3), etc. Parentheses indicate elisions where (to my ear) the end of one section overlaps with the start of another. Might be some typos, and again, a lot of it isn't exact based on the kick, but this should help you internalize it if you're interested in this. Also, I've seen a lot of talk about the genre of the piece based on Hololive's tweet. I wouldn't say this is totally new genre per se, though it's obviously not mainstream idol music. I would say it's somewhere between hyperpop and art pop, though genre is as much based on what things are as what they're not. Anyways, hope this is interesting to some people!
Definitely not a new genre but very new for Hololive. As far a closest genre match, I would say from a technical standpoint it falls pretty in line with IDM, but IDM itself is pretty broad. Think of the album Kid A by Radiohead, or basically anything by Aphex Twin or Boards of Canada.
Thank you, I was looking for an analysis regarding the 1st part as well, because it doesn't follow the usual 4/4 for most songs, especially within the idol genre.
I wasn't sure what to expect when Marine had mentioned this would be very different but this is amazing and I'm beyond impressed. Marine is so talented and all the love and effort she puts into her work can be felt. Senchou's voice is so nice to hear, with this really cool MV and effects this is easily one of my favorite Hololive songs. Thank you for everything you do, Marine!

@@dhupee The colours of the flags vary between countries. In most cases the flag colour has little meaning as they are just meant to help the reader see the positions of the arms. It is the combination of left arm and right arm position that forms each letter. The standard semaphore flag colours in Japan are white and red, as used in this video. Japanese semaphore is slightly different from English semaphore as English has 26 letters but Japanese has around 45 syllables (that isn't an exact count).
I like this. It's not the typical music with typical chord patterns and rhythms. Different from typical club dance songs too. This is genuinely original and extremely wholesome. Frankly speaking, Senchou talks about all the seison't stuff but I think at heart she's a truly wonderful person.
No matter how much I listen to this song, I can't get it out of my head. Senchou does it again, just like the energetic AHOY, we get the exotic Unison with its unique beat and melody. It should get 1mil in a couple hours now, and she deserves even more. Maybe this will get even more views than AHOY has.
The song talks about a tripulation of 5, including all 4 of Marine's outfits and a certain Mr. Silence who has to pick the captain among them. The outfits want to be chosen and "filled", which could mean it's a song directed at Marine herself. It can also mean that Marine wants us, the silent viewer, to choose Marine (any version of her) as our favorite, and it's only with us that she can plug the hole in her ship/life. It could also mean she's really horny, but that's a given. Edit: She added subtitles!
Such a fantastic song to start with, but it completely evolves and becomes something completely new and amazing when you listen with a good pair of headphones. EDIT: What a progression I’ve had with this song. First listen: Okay, this is beautiful, but kind of weird and not what I’m used to listening to, I don’t know if I like it or hate it. Next couple listens on my tablet or PC: This is really addicting, very interesting, I definitely like it. Listen to it for the first time with headphones: I’m in love. Now I just need an official HQ english sub version so I can enjoy it while understanding the lyrics too.

I'm on Audio Technica AD1000X's, which are like $350 JP reference grade cans and have some of AT's best coils, AT's coils are known for their "coldness", their non-preferentiality in terms of audio range and benefit a lot from purpose-specific audio leveling software. I left my gaming levels on when first listening and realized they actually sound better than the future funk/touhou music loadout I'd usually use going into a song like this. It makes me realize I'm probably wearing the same cans as the producer and that they deliberately leaned INTO the gaming levels to promote soundstage on the drums in the exact way the gaming levels boost soundstage to help you locate threats quickly in 3D environments and stuff. It's just such a genius baller ass move, it's aimed squarely at JP gamers and is only hitting me because I'm an FPS nerd who knows soundstage can enhance MUH KAYDEE RATIO and what have you. If you need me I'll be checking out everything YUNOMI has done because whoever they are they have a very big brain.

I think most people watching HL know already where this is going, but for the newbies: It's a word play that guys make girls say, because it sounds similar to "Ne, chuu shite" - "Hey, let's kiss". Also, I am really wondering whether the latter part actually describes the ship sinking... Or is the _flooding downstairs_ about something else entirely. Knowing Skipper, I can guess what's the answer, though.

Now, if it was any other HoloMem, I wouldn't care, as _usually_ "Iku" is just used as "to go" verb. But this is Skipper we're talking about. I don't buy the theory that she doesn't realize.
Senchou's on that FlyLo wave with this. Her flow and the contrast of her vocals againt the instro is legitimately something I've never heard before and now need more of... and the production and mastering is so damn crisp and tastyyyyy and the MV is just perfect. She hit it out of the park with this and I can't wait for the next one.

I keep returning to this at least once every day just because of how good it is. But, I want to point this out: to whoever did the translation on the captions, you deserve... so much credit for not only making it rhyme but also go in rhythm... in English. You can, in fact, sing the translation to this song in English & it would still mostly work. That is a feat in & of itself. I just can't get over that.

All the syncopation in the mid part may confuse you, but it's literally 4/4 same tempo all the way through Structure is pretty out there though, I'll give you that Very interesting melody too, which, given vocals is virtually the only tonal instrument in the song, really helps

This song is so disorienting in the best possible way. The syncopation and the harmonies makes it feel like like my reality has been shifted an inch to the left, and everything feels at once normal and unfamiliar. This was an experience. I need to do acid to this.

This song is incredible. This is certainly an experimental sound for Marine, but it fits an unmistakable unique Marine sound, keeping it based. Every time the harmonized vocals start with the percussion picking up, it's a massive train of dopamine right to the head. Not to forget, the visuals fit it perfectly. I personally like the bright pastel color parts quite a lot. In summary: Based. Dope. Super lit.

@@eddsfan it’s pretty hard to choose with all the great voices. Suisei is undoubtedly the best voice I feel, and then you got Kiara, Okayu, Nene, Reine, Risu, Mio, AZKI and Watame. And now Senchou really busting out her chops. And the members only getting better now that they’re showing off their range as they get more comfortable.

I appreciate how many of the Hololive talents do stuff that's kind of experimental and not just predictable jpop, it's really refreshing and it really shows the time and effort they put in to both expressing themselves and connecting with their fans. Real. Ahoy was one hell of a banger which stood out from all hololive originals, and I expected Marine to do it again. She delivered. No doubt that Marine loves music as an art, I really looking forward for more of her musical talent
JPOP in general is really different than any other pop out there. It's very diverse and wide. Japan really has a good variety of singers, songwriters, composers etc. that likes to try a different type of music. They can also cover topics that are very dark and depressing and turn it into a very beautiful song.

Alright. This song has been stuck in my head since it came out, largely because of the relatively experimental opening. What makes it especially interesting is the metrical dissonance used from the beginning until the chorus starts. In short, there are competing meters until it's relatively stable at ~1:25. Though it begins with 4 bars of an unproblematic 4/4 four-on-the-floor kick, the next four bars add a counter-rhythm that plays against (though is still within) the framework of common time. But the rhythm of Marine's singing doesn't adhere to this structure. Not only are the phrases irregular (I count her opening as 11+9+8+(5+1) against the four-on-the-floor kick, for instance), they're also syncopated (off the beat [not unusual in pop songs, but this is moreso than is common]), as well as frequently elided--overlapping--so there isn't a rhythmic cadence that clearly ends on a strong beat on a consistent measure until about --1:01-- which I hear as a repeated 3-4-1-- on 交代だ (the repeated "koutai da"). But this is shown to be "wrong" when "Please Mr. Silence" (プリーズ、ミスターサイレンス) comes in (1:11) as a pickup 3-4&-1 with Silence falling on beat 1 and starting the "true" measure (but which contradicts my perceived 3-4-1 of koutai da). But the point of the opening of this song is literally to disorient the listener so that there isn't a consistent and obvious meter. I.e., there are layered meters which make it difficult to say if there's a "right" answer. That's what makes this song so hypnotizing! There are even sections of the opening that adhere to some sense of 4/4 for a bit, but they're inevitably disrupted. Anyways, if you want to bob your head along, this is the counting structure I came up with for the beginning: (intro) 8+8, 8+8, (Marine comes in:) 11+9+8+(5+1), 3+4+4+4+5+(8+3), (lots of normal 4s!) 4+4+4+4+4+4+8, 3+4+6+4+7+(4+3), etc. Parentheses indicate elisions where (to my ear) the end of one section overlaps with the start of another. Might be some typos, and again, a lot of it isn't exact based on the kick, but this should help you internalize it if you're interested in this.
Also, I've seen a lot of talk about the genre of the piece based on Hololive's tweet. I wouldn't say this is totally new genre per se, though it's obviously not mainstream idol music. I would say it's somewhere between hyperpop and art pop, though genre is as much based on what things are as what they're not.

Definitely not a new genre but very new for Hololive. As far a closest genre match, I would say from a technical standpoint it falls pretty in line with IDM, but IDM itself is pretty broad. Think of the album Kid A by Radiohead, or basically anything by Aphex Twin or Boards of Canada.

The bubbles and water ambient sound overlaying the sound makes this for me. Has this deep atmospheric feel.
If you take a look at that one fan translation video, that part had lyrics about sinking into the ocean. So it's fitting.
I wasn't sure what to expect when Marine had mentioned this would be very different but this is amazing and I'm beyond impressed. Marine is so talented and all the love and effort she puts into her work can be felt. Senchou's voice is so nice to hear, with this really cool MV and effects this is easily one of my favorite Hololive songs. Thank you for everything you do, Marine!

The standard semaphore flag colours in Japan are white and red, as used in this video.
Japanese semaphore is slightly different from English semaphore as English has 26 letters but Japanese has around 45 syllables (that isn't an exact count).

I like this. It's not the typical music with typical chord patterns and rhythms. Different from typical club dance songs too. This is genuinely original and extremely wholesome. Frankly speaking, Senchou talks about all the seison't stuff but I think at heart she's a truly wonderful person.

The outfits want to be chosen and "filled", which could mean it's a song directed at Marine herself. It can also mean that Marine wants us, the silent viewer, to choose Marine (any version of her) as our favorite, and it's only with us that she can plug the hole in her ship/life. It could also mean she's really horny, but that's a given.

I'm on Audio Technica AD1000X's, which are like $350 JP reference grade cans and have some of AT's best coils, AT's coils are known for their "coldness", their non-preferentiality in terms of audio range and benefit a lot from purpose-specific audio leveling software. I left my gaming levels on when first listening and realized they actually sound better than the future funk/touhou music loadout I'd usually use going into a song like this. It makes me realize I'm probably wearing the same cans as the producer and that they deliberately leaned INTO the gaming levels to promote soundstage on the drums in the exact way the gaming levels boost soundstage to help you locate threats quickly in 3D environments and stuff. It's just such a genius baller ass move, it's aimed squarely at JP gamers and is only hitting me because I'm an FPS nerd who knows soundstage can enhance MUH KAYDEE RATIO and what have you. If you need me I'll be checking out everything YUNOMI has done because whoever they are they have a very big brain.

This song is incredible. This is certainly an experimental sound for Marine, but it fits an unmistakable unique Marine sound, keeping it based. Every time the harmonized vocals start with the percussion picking up, it's a massive train of dopamine right to the head. Not to forget, the visuals fit it perfectly. @@eddsfan it’s pretty hard to choose with all the great voices. Suisei is undoubtedly the best voice I feel, and then you got Kiara, Okayu, Nene, Reine, Risu, Mio, AZKI and Watame. And now Senchou really busting out her chops. And the members only getting better now that they’re showing off their range as they get more comfortable.

It's been, 2 days, this song still hasn't got old to me, the melody just, sticks, the second "drop" has such a satisfying feel to it, it's such a nice melody to listen to, sasuga senchou, you never fail to amaze me.

I appreciate how many of the Hololive talents do stuff that's kind of experimental and not just predictable jpop, it's really refreshing and it really shows the time and effort they put in to both expressing themselves and connecting with their fans.
I really love the minimal instrumentals, the odd beat percussion, when the harmony in the chorus comes in it just floods over everything and it's oddly serene.

JPOP in general is really different than any other pop out there. It's very diverse and wide. Japan really has a good variety of singers, songwriters, composers etc. that likes to try a different type of music. They can also cover topics that are very dark and depressing and turn it into a very beautiful song.
