How Guardiola CHANGED His Football Identity & GOT BETTER | Explained

  • In some ways, 2022/23 saw peak Guardiola in English football. Not only did City win the league, but this time their closest rivals, Arsenal, were playing a form of Pep-ball, while Championship winners Burnley also were building on foundations laid by the Catalan. And with principles of Pep’s beloved juego de posicion visible in sides like Brighton, it seemed like the manager had succeeded in moulding the league to him - but ironically, this City side also represented a departure from what he’d done before.
    Of course, the foundations remain the same. This is a dominant possession team, and the fluid interchange of roles and positions has become natural to anyone watching Guardiola’s career. But in other ways, it feels like this iteration of City has been as much about the talent available as Pep’s larger philosophy - and blending the two has created perhaps the most effective outfit of his spell in the Prem.
    So what has changed at the Etihad? How did Pep reinvent the Cityzens once again - and reinvent himself? Let’s find out.

    Second only behind SAF. That Barca team 08 - 12 was the best team ever and the thought of playing against them as a Man United fan was frightening. But, I am not going to argue putting him ahead of Ferguson in about 10 to 15 years but Guardiola is truly one of a kind 😊

      About pep vs fergie we can argue all day long, but for sure there is no one can be sure of which one is better, because they haven't meet in the same league. Fergie only manage one team in one league, its much more easy since he doesn't need to adapt to different play style across Europe. While pep only had 7 years in the Premier league, unless he stayed for another 10 year in EPL we wont be able to conclude anything.

    It just so happens that even Pep's "philosophy" of zones on the pitch and player rotations and coordinations around those zones STILL works best with traditional:
    * Defence profile
    * Attack profile
    Instead of his former:
    * Total Midfielders player profile.
    What he realized is the best teams can have a few chances and score and win against his former total midfielder teams at the top level as said.
    Be interesting to see what happens in the final of the Champions League. Barring the monstrously unfair and randomness of the Casino Roulette Lottery Rule of "hand/arm-ball + penalty area == Instant Penalty" (another perfect text-book example of experts + technology = Insanity), I think the balance of Pep's squad is very strong this year and I predict they'll have higher scoring opportunities than Inter and should have high quality scoring opportunities that directly benefit Haaland....

      @commentarytalk1446 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Saeroye I got it wrong with respect to Haaland: I thought he'd end up scoring. However, the factor I did not consider was the heavy watering of the pitch: I saw so many players slipping and sliding and then ballooning the ball like it's skidding off the contact in wet conditions so maybe in the end that had a significant role on City's performance?
      But yeah Pragmatism was clearly essential: It was a blind spot where Pep went for Skill too much but in the end you need Skill and Power to create Total Balance.
      Hope you enjoyed the game? I did, the electric nervous pressured atmosphere was incredible, even through the digital screen! Quite amazing how much the players hearts were on display! That is the best of sport.

      @@commentarytalk1446 the pitch being too wet wasn’t commented on at all. It’s was weird tbh but they won cagey game but typical City goal with how it came about. It wasn’t lucky but stragically it came about. Most impressed by ever evolving role of Stones.
      Also, with Haaland he was quiet but kept the defenders busy. Due to the type of striker he is it can lead to him being shut down.
      I feel Ballon dor might have been strong about if he was instrumental in final. Despite everything he had a great season plenty of room to grow and he recognises that which is positive.
