You can almost see a story in this. Ordinary worker at a meat processing plant sees contaminated meat being packaged. The worker wants to say something but no one at the plant cares. His colleagues start shunning him at work. Because no one looks out for him he gets into an accident. The management uses this as an excuse to bring disciplinary action. The senior colleague (Verbeck) gives the worker a talking-to. The worker is figuratively fed into the metaphorical meat grinder. Another worker takes his place.

I think it representing that factory workers are treated like the product they make.
That people working minimum wages go to the "meat grinder" of a workplace, and if they aren't up to par then they will be replaced as easily as the meat. And that "you killing another you" represent "you aren't special and someone else can always take your place."
Kind of a downer huh.
This is why I don’t like the idea of raising pigs purely for meat. I’m not vegetarian, but I do want the animals to live a good life before they go. Also in the process people who do this type of job usually lose empathy for the animals and don’t blink an eye when they have to do more cruel things to the animals.

I know a few who have worked at meat factories like this, and most of them have ended up as vegetarians or vegans, on the other hand I also know people that hunt wild animals like boars and moose to make food for themselves or to sell at markets, and none of them have become vegetarian.
@@toshineon I don’t mind if they’re not vegetarian. That’s part of nature. I just want it to be humane. It is possible. I hate how humans can be so cruel to animals. Here in New Zealand, farmers are rich. So I hope more people become farmers that support their community. So that we would rely less on inhumane factories such as this.

The scariest part is the lack of OSHA compliance in this factory
Something to consider too- at the beginning, you place the wax cylinder that has the boss' voice upon it. (I assume so, since the music is already playing before you do so). This means every bit of the dialogue is pre-recorded for you. This means it predicts when you'll walk through again and (supposedly) skip waving to your co-worker. It also will eventually wind up on you 'breaking protocol'.
Tbh I feel like this furthers the idea of this just being cyclical somehow. You are the meat grinder and you are the meat.

Fun Fact: Mrs. Verbeck is a reference to a song: Johnny Verbeck.
In the song, the titular butcher is known for his quality sausages, until he makes a meat-grinding machine, which he uses to turn local cats and dogs into sausages. Eventually, the machine breaks down, so he climbs inside to unclog it. At that point, his wife sleep-walks into the room:
"She gave that crank
One heck of a yank~!
And Johnny Verbeck was meat!"
It's literally all I could think about the whole time. That, and the fact that, in the song, it's pronounced "vur-BECK" instead of "VERB-ick"

Interesting premise for a Purgatory-like game. It's a rare treat to see they didn't butcher the mood or unsettling atmosphere with unsavory screamers.

If it's surreal for the sake of being surreal, I'm okay with that. However, I kind of like Manly's musing in the middle of the video more; you are just a pig waiting to be slaughtered and this is all your mind trying to process the unescapable death. It doesn't have much evidence, but the game doesn't particularly give you evidence for any interpretation. It's effective in being creepy, in large part due to slaughterhouses in general being unpleasant.
I may be projecting but I kind of view it as a metaphor for working a job in general. they tell you how to do it, they make you work constantly for little money and then when you run into any trouble or get injured they won't hesitate to throw you in the grinder for someone less troubled.
Yeah but alao image being in the place of those animals. Is pretty sad and horrifying as well. Just like in that game Swine, where you where haunted down by pigs to butcher you. And living as them in a very small place, blinded by those concrete walls, without any knowledge of the outside world. Being feed by your killer.

I'm under the impression this slaughterhouse has exactly one human employee, but they are caught in a time loop of working until they make a mistake that gets them reassigned to become meat so a new instance of them can be spawned to replace them.

I think the main point of the game is the Grinder:
from one side you as the slaughterhouse worker throw Pig's meat on it and you are part of the system (follow what the speaker says) even if is clear the system doesn't work at all (An Unsanitary environment with you: the protagonist who walks around barefoot and without gloves, to show how you pratically aren't trained or supervised, who daily do the same thing over and over, living out your life out of the death of these animals until one day your work is interrupted by a problem (A pig leg got stuck in the grinder blocking his mechanism. Let's say this is Karma) as your mind was brainwashed by the repetitive work and you now feel obliged to fullfill "your job" and also at the same time the system blame you on why the machine stop, you take an initiative you *should never take because is not your responsibility* and with your bare hands (you simpleton) unlock the mechanism (making the machine work again) but inevitably lose 2 fingers.
You're hurt badly and the Higher ups don't like it a bit.
Because this means there will be a control on the facility security measures and that's really bad for them because it put in danger the whole system (who clearly doesn't work and neither want to change).
So the voice from the speaker says: *You* the worker clearly break the protocol (This protocol doesn't exist from the start). So the blame is left all on you.
Your superior is notified and she come from far away. She's same woman who friendly waved at you at the begin (The game try to show you're part of a "family" and make you feel accepted) As Manly did he waited for her because: a player who would think they could argue with someone who showed herself friendly before but in reality she is not here to listen, you try to run away but you're still hurt for the blood loss and so you inevitably got no escape.
The perspective then change to someone new.
The new "you" (a new arrival) make in time to look to the previous worker (shown by the lost fingers) who "wave" to the new arrival ( *welcome to the family* ) and then walk to the grinder seein now the perspective from the other side of the machine. Dying in the process: symbolic for saying he was fired and pratically the system "chewed him out and spit him off".
The lookalike is symbolic for saying you got substituted by another man like you: another simpleton who find himself in the same situation at the start.
At least this is my interpretation of this indie game "story".

Just a few problems...
Why didn't the main protagonist just call for supervisor whenever something went wrong... why insist to continue and let the mistakes go by???
Like water didn't wash the trough, that should be enough to report to supervisor... water is important for cleaning up meats and tools. Next is the contaminated pork, that should gross anyone out and should never continue at that point. For the machine problem, the principle is if you are working with faulty mechanical blades or gears, no one in their right mind will stick their hands in until the power is shut off completely... unless they have a low IQ or lack complete awareness.

it's symbolism, man. just as the factory uses the bodies of the pigs, the factory uses the bodies of the employees. the pig's body is necessary as product and the employee's body is necessary for the product processing tasks to be performed. both are fed into the eternally churning machine, one literally and one symbolically. humans are like unto farm animals kept not for their meat or hide, but for their capacity to perform tasks for their employers. the days and years of your life are spent in service to the machine, but if you suffer an injury and can no longer work, you can be discarded.
