This is one of the few Ambient pieces I've encountered that easily puts me in a trance-like state. I'm constantly out of the house, working, attending classes, doing errands, living the busy life with barely enough time to enjoy solitude; this is a breath of fresh air for me to be encapsulated by my thoughts.
Boy does this bring on thoughts. I was in the Air Force back in the 80's and 90's up in North Dakota. I was a attached to the 842 MSS and in charge of watching after the Minuteman II missile silos in the most desolate parts of North Dakota. Now those site are all abandoned and empty. This music evokes the loneliness and abandonment of those sites. With cold broken concrete, rusty vault doors, cold and snowy environment and the sound dead silence.
It's very strange, how sounds evoke abandoned ambients even if those ambients don't make those sounds at all. It's like our mind can hear them, even if our ears can't,and when we hear these waves we recognize them. Places have their own sounds and i think they are almost like these...
The amount of times I have tried to find ACTUAL drone ambience on TH-cam and got distracting lofi or other junk has been very frustrating. This is the real deal. I can actually focus with this. Thank you 🙏
This guy gets this type of music. It's the pattern and the flow. As much as I like Brian Eno, he sometimes misses that in lieu of something that becomes too improvisational and becomes distracting. This may be my favorite ambient piece ever. I keep coming back to it. Thanks so much.
Just found this and instantly within 3 minutes added to my sleep list. From a fellow ambient/dark ambient/dark space ambient composer, I send appreciation.
i put this on while i'm reading because utter silence is insufferable and put me to sleep, but regular music is too distracting. Love it! The textures are so rich and enchanting
The perfect combination of ambient, drone and field recording. Listening this, the last 20 minutes I've been in another country, in another time. In another world. And I have more than 3 more hours of this. Thank you. Really. Sub, of course.
This sound makes me want to study or go up into the mountains. I have not tried meditating to it yet however there is something quite mesmerizing about this sound. It is hard to explain.

Might be that i ran out of paracetamol at noon and can't walk the 45m to buy more...

The only problem is makes me want to flay advertisers alive when they intrude on it... (sorry advertisers, I know I could pay to remove you guys...).
My mind is always active, thinking about this or that. Good and bad. It makes it hard to sleep sometimes. I’m going to bed playing this tonight. This music totally shuts down my mind. Good stuff!!
We could think every piece of this kind of music feels stricly the same, but not at all. Robert Rich's Perpetual and Somnium feel a bit warmer, Tomas Köner's Daikan more "deepening", the same Köner's Tabula Smaragdina feel more melancholic, and there are many other pieces I even can't qualify while I enjoy them so much (such Brian Eno's Thursday Afternoon, for instance). I love how Annuminas combines this cold and dark continuum. Nice work.
I love music of all kinds, I have rather eclectic tastes. When I am writing music can be a distraction, but I can have this on in the background and it helps. This is ambient in the tradition of Eno

Drone music has been around for thousands of years considering the throaty chanting of ancient Buddhist monks and the strange string instruments of old Hindu temples. That Western drone music evolving naturally from pop, classical, etc, without any direct input from the old, I believe, is evidence that there is some psychic consensus around what sort of music invokes the spiritual experience. It's something human that crosses all cultures without the need for intellectual trade or discourse. The old Brahman priests say its the song of god being sung to us but barely hear until we stop and really listen. Or maybe it's something more ordinary, as it's just how the human brain works to cycle through stress and anxiety. Either one is fine with me.
End of the day or beginning rather, we all come from the same conscious source, cross bleed and knowledge transfer by osmosis is inevitable, there was even a recent research about global consciousness with mice from different geo-locations developing skillsets with remarkable ease after the previous generations did it in another location. What we are experiencing are different permutations and combinations of that knowledge source as it is is channeled and developed by different people in different cultures and demographics, the multiple evolutions of that pattern which are themselves just expressions of the same source, like a large number data type and us being the various numbers in a never ending pattern generator with infinite combinations that give us this sort of depth and the experience of reality as we all know it. Deep down and even on the surface both figuratively and literally, we are all the same, consuming the same resources with the same faculties that each and every one of us share and have the capacity and option to develop and use in the best ways that we can and that we are designed for.
Modern Western drone music was definitely inspired by the older traditions. Avant garde composers like John Cage, La Monte Young, Terry Riley, Philip Glass had been studying Indian and other Asian classical music, and Indian classical musicians like Ravi Shankar were becoming well known in the West.
