I'm really impressed with the final result, I'm actually using premiere pro, but I decided to learn color grading with davinci resolve so I can elevate my skills to another level, davinci's interface looks kind of alien but I like working with nodes so there's no big problem
After watching many tutorials on color grading I’ve determined it’s basically just an overpowered Hue/Saturation slider, no matter the LUTs used any adjustment to a wheel will always wash the entire image in one overwhelming color. It’s leagues easier to just film the shot with the proper settings than spend hours on a color slider.
I mean sure, but you're gonna be quite limited on your results. If you're experiencing the fact that it's all giving washed out with one color you might wanna do a little bit of research on color theory. Other than that, yeah, you can shoot. All in camera and just go and raw dog. It like that you're just gonna be creatively limited. To what your camera can produce in camera.
I think you think this because you’re filming in 8 bit 709. Yes, if you’re crushing your dynamic range and colors, or your camera is very basic and can’t even shoot 8 bit log, then, yeah. Color grading is pretty much only for real cameras. Only IPhone JUST started letting you shoot in log
Haha, it's enjoyable to see ourselves improve the results of our old work. Your node tree would probably be better if you observe color grading channels like Darren Mostyn, Cullen Kelly, etc. But I'm sure everyone has their own time to develop!
Super explanation. How do I get the edits across all my clips now? Edit: Found my answer. Click on the ones I want to match, Right click and Apply grades or Click on the graded one and hold Shift to apply the previous steps to multiple
Thanks for the vid, this got my foot in the door- got my vid well color corrected now! Now to figure out how to do a quick fade, then the video is ready to export. TY, sub earned!
Just like layers in photoshop, you CAN put everything on one node if you so wish, but if you want to change any aspect of your grade after the fact or just 1 specific parameter, its a lot easier and nicer and more organized to do it on separate nodes. If you do everything on 1 node and one to change something, it could possibly change the entire grade and force to you to start from scratch, vs having things on different nodes that you can polar with constantly without making DRASTIC changes that you might regret. If you want a great one node tutorial, check out my most recent film look creator tutorial for the newest DaVinci resolve version!
It’s all in post! My a7siii only shoots 4K uhd 16:9, but then in post I use a 2:1 aspect ratio, so I lose a bit of resolution off the top but that’s ok
Thanks for the video! I really want to know how to color grade just to get true color. I know that's not a thing and very subjective 😅 but I do videos that include swatching nail colors. I'm not necessarily looking for a beautiful, cinematic edit. I just want my colors to look accurate. If you have any tips for that, I would love to hear them! 🙏💜
Thanks for this video! Very informative :) I've tried learning Davinci the last few days. Main issue I face is that when I use the selector to choose an area I want to change colors or change luminosity, once I touch it, the image becomes super "glitchy" when playing the video, like the software is not strong enough to compute all the images and doing the job properly. Any idea how to fix that? Thanks :)

Let's say the following shot is of the woman crossing the street, but from a different camera angle or shot. How do you carry over the color grading changes to the next clip without having to manually grade all over again? Thank you.
You can! Click on the first click with the color grade you want, then hold shift or command to select the second clip. Right click on the first clip, and hit apply grade. And your grade will now be copied!
I’m new to da DaVinci resolve, what is the purpose of adding a new node with each property? Is it for better management or does it affect the look of you change everything in one node?
Much like photoshop layers, it’s so you can work non destructively, as well as organize the grading process. In resolve, the earlier the node, the more its affects your grade. So major changes first, and then smaller incremental changes
Wait... using an A7S III and you're having problems with the noise? What ISO did you shoot at? That camera with the 12 megapixel sensor should have alleviated your worry for noise reduction. Unless you were shooting at an ISO too high.
Noise is present because of lack of available light. When youre running and gunning solo shooting at night with no consistent lighting, there is going to be noise without a light source. The a7siii is absolutely incredible, but also because its only 12 megapixels, noise is a bit more obvious compared to an a7iv for example with its 7k oversample. The noise is absolutely fine, I just want it to be as clean as possible because why not improve your footage to the max? And secondly this is a tutorial. Just because I don’t necessarily need it doesnt mean other people may not. It’s a useful thing to know about when you need it. Hope that helps!

And at the end, you decided to put the node for noise reduction before every node you already had created... How do you make those kinds of decisions? Thanks
You can try out and see., like what happens if u add node in between.... What happens if u add denoise before the node ... And what happens if u add denoise after the node .....like.... U may Try n see... It's all layers.
Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this, but is there a way to copy this grading to apply it to other clips ? Is this what we call a custom LUT ? I am thinking that once the formula is created, it should be relatively easy to cut and paste it or save it to apply to other clips. It would be great to see how that is done. Thanks, it was very helpful and informative

Thank you! I’m glad you found it helpful! You can do this to any video footage, I color grade iPhone footage all the time. With LOG footage you just have more room to work with, and your image is less likely to tear apart when pushing a more intense color grade, but you can color grade any footage in any picture profile!
@@MarcTarazoh btw is this what I need to do for every luts that I import and try to my videos? :) Its not like photo where u just copy and paste LUTS? 😅

I didn’t track on this shot because she stayed pretty much in the middle, I didn’t feel the need to track. The constant vignette suited me better personally
Amazing video! How do I copy these settings to the next clip? And you go through eash feature very quickly, do you know any youtube videos that spend alittle more time to teach the newbies to Davinci like me? thanks Rob

Hello! I have a film I need to complete and the friend who's been doing color correction has become extremely busy with his own project. So, I don't wish to bother him and decided to look for someone who can help me with the color correction. No too much left, but some clips might be challenging. Is there any way you could take a look at it and let me know if it's something you could do? Your video is great, but I'm still far from being technical... Thank you!
Can you apply these same nodes to multiple clips? I’m making TH-cam videos and have a lot of cut up scenes and it would take a year for me to apply all these edits to each one?
Hi, I hope you can answer this question soon. it's kind of time sensitive! when I am in color mode and I add the nodes!! Where it says library and setting top right side. Color space transformation. I can't add anything because it is not highlighted. I deleted my project and the free version hoping it would change! How can I change this? Thanks
soooooooooo you have to do this for every single clip your using for a video or is there way to apply it to everything and go back into it to micro adjust for certain parts ?
my doubt is why did you put all the nodes.......i think thats just to show us editing process or does it have any other purpose in the colourgrading process
You normally use nodes to separate processes, so you first expose the image and stop touching that node so that in the case you mess up you don’t have to undo all the work you made. So basically you separate steps between nodes to “save” your progress.
Thank you so much for this video. It was easy to follow and use for a beginner and now I just have to practice. :)

You can select all the clips and right click to apply grade to all the clips
Hi, I hope you can answer this question soon. it's kind of time sensitive! when I am in color mode and I add the nodes!! Where it says library and setting top right side. Color space transformation. I can't add anything because it is not highlighted. I deleted my project and the free version hoping it would change! How can I change this? Thanks
all the tutorial on youtube can applied if shoot with phone camera?
soooooooooo you have to do this for every single clip your using for a video or is there way to apply it to everything and go back into it to micro adjust for certain parts
?
There is! Select the clips you want to copy the grade to, right click, and hit apply grade!
@@MarcTaraz thank you very much. I'll have to try this out.
my doubt is why did you put all the nodes.......i think thats just to show us editing process or does it have any other purpose in the colourgrading process
You normally use nodes to separate processes, so you first expose the image and stop touching that node so that in the case you mess up you don’t have to undo all the work you made. So basically you separate steps between nodes to “save” your progress.
It’s like using layers in photoshop or illustrator.
you are great bro
