TH-cam just suggested this video, and I’m glad I clicked on it. I love theory videos like this for things like Yugioh and Legend of Zelda. I look forward to more content like this.
Really glad you enjoyed the video! I've always been a fan of these types of theory videos. So, when a new archetype came along (supposedly) based off of a franchise I absolutely adore, I knew I had to jump on it before any other content creators could. Hoping to make more (obviously a follow-up video for the next wave of Ashened, but I've also considered doing a video on the Entity archetypes and Lovecraft). Thank you so much for supporting me and watching!
Dam, not sure if it was just your voice (sounding like an asmr), but this really felt like a Vatividia Souls lore video (if you don't know, he and his team are responsible for explaining most of Fromsoft's deep lore to the fanbase). Good job! Also, wow, I think you hit the nail on the head with the connection to Pompei; I never would have thought of that. Btw, if I make a suggestion. Maybe you could make a TH-cam short covering the newest Ashened cards and what that adds or contrasts with your interpretation of this story.
Hey, I appreciate that first comment! Part of the intent behind this video was indeed to pay homage to all the great Souls Lore TH-camrs including Vatividia, so glad I was able to do so! I do really, really want to make another full-fledged video talking about the newest Ashened cards. But, due to some important events happening in May, haven't had time to put in the research nor write a script. A shame because this means the video will come out extremely late relative to LEDE's release, but idk if there's anyone else that will be covering the Ashened lore.
I had speculated Veidos looked like Midir, but wasn't confident in making the association given how many dragons DS had + no lore suggesting Midir was once an ally of the Ashened. Nonetheless, amd reconsidering given the second wave of support - even though it doesn't hint at Veidos protecting the Ashened initially, the two just continue to look near identical.
Technically Libromancer is a Persona archetype, no? Sure, you could argue that the archetype leans moreso into Jojo's Bizarre Adventure with the more stand-like apparitions some of the main deck monsters boast. Even so, the resemblance between, say, Doombroker and Joker/ Arsen hints at it. Even so, it would indeed be cool to a get a full-fledged Persona archetype. I'm not too familiar with the franchise's story, so if the former does happen, I guess I'll be ready to shed some tears.
Planning to do so! It just takes a while to research this stuff >>> write a fluid script >>> record and edit the script, moreso than some of the more opinionated videos I've made.
Thanks for choosing to watch it! In regards to PUNK Horus - unfortunately, I am not working on a profile. This is because (1) the cards are a bit pricy for my taste + my group doesn't own the cards, and (2) I admittedly don't have huge faith in the build. I do wish you luck at the YCS though - I'm sure I'm giving the variant less credit than it's due, and would love to see you succeed!
I think I spoke of Anor Londo here just because I figured, if this archetype was DS-inspired, they might prefer to keep things consistent (e.g. DS-only lore). Nonetheless, there are definitely a lot of striking similarities between the burnt-down Leyndell and Obsidim. Really curious what the next wave of support brings to the table.
Hey, maybe next set we'll get a good wave! Otherwise, I think the deck is okay as a rogue option - you have so many slots to fill in your main deck and extra deck that you could do a ton of things (Dracossack/ Adventurer/ AFD or similar Synchro combos/ Pure with hand traps).
If I recall, Labyrnth doesn't have some larger story compared to other Yugioh archetypes (e.g. like a plot) - it's just based off of Beauty & the Beast + Labyrinths in general. Nonetheless, I enjoy talking about decks in this manner and could definitely look into it!
Bro if you played dark souls, it you’d recognize the similarities and references in so many of the branded cards. I’d argue there’s even more references in those cards to the thing that inspired the souls game being berserk, hence the name “branded”
theres other possible references to soulsborne games in the cards. Veidos could also be like Midir more directly, and it's what i saw. Some theorized the King also as Godfrey from Elden ring, but also André some pointed out Raime as a possible reference to the Hero. completely with you though that the Priestess is the firekeeper. Lets hope this set gets another support wave that catapults their capability, because right now that art is essentially ashes.
Yeah, I originally had some footage where I talked about Veidos potentially being based off of Midir. You got the similar laser beam, the four wings, and similar coloring. Since there were so many dragons in DS + I didn't want to make a wrong assumption, however, I took that portion out. I know some people were comparing King to Godfrey, but the overall DS-leaning qualities of the archetype deterred me from associating the card with Elden Ring. It is entirely possible, though, that the next wave gives us more lore that ties in Elden Ring to Ashened - I would certainly welcome it! I am really looking forward to the next wave Ashened gets. The archetype already seems decent (you can play it just pure with a ton of hand traps or removal, or you can play the Dracossack combo variant which seems solid), and a solid additional wave would definitely bring it to light. Really don't want Konami to stumble with the Souls-inspired deck :D
@@pk_tuneworld Midir just fits anyway, considering it to be one of the last dragons that now likely would destroy it all.. Agreed that the Ashened should get a great wave. lets not ruin the impact of this artwork. but as it is, the deck stumbles due to lack of full potential with not even intersecting levels inside itself to give it toolbox ability, as much as i dislike such a thing these days.
I'd personally disagree because the Albaz lore seemingly ended given the existence of the card "New Frontier". Furthermore, this is a TCG-exclusive archetype - these have historically always been separate to any lore in existing archetypes. Nonetheless, maybe I'm wrong and Konami does end up doing something like this. Would be weird, but Yugioh is weird :P
I mean, the card was 18$ average for the longest time after PHNI release (Jan 20 to around the start of March). It only spiked recently (don't forget Veidos was 36 only a week or two ago) because, before the new support was announced, people thought the second wave might be insane. Now that we know this wave is only "okay" at best, the card is starting to go down, and hopefully will reach 18 again or even lower. Then all the DS or Ashened fans can finally play the deck :D
Basically you're a sick man for making these cards constantly relive their deaths at the hands of a dragon you summon on them and force them to die repeatedly! Under generic circumstances you're sick for making these monsters partake in these battles for your enjoyment but this is technically somehow worse than summoning Dark Magician Girl and forcing her to battle a Blue-Eyes White Dragon
Me vibing to the video “The three maidens resemble one another” 😳👀 Who wants to tell him? Not it! Also the representative of the lord of sunlight Gwyn is not only not a Light attribute it’s Dark? 🤣🤣🤣 I know lore accurate Gwyn would be seething on his funeral pyre! And I find it hilarious!
Believe it or not, the choice to call Gwyndolin a maiden was intentional. I think between the fact Gwyn had raised him like a maiden + the fact certain interpretations of the lore implied Gwyndolin accepted this role, it was fair. Also saved time in the video over having to discuss this bit, especially if I was just gonna compare Priestess to the Firekeeper in the end. Though maybe I shouldn’t assume things 🤔 Otherwise, you’re right LOL - if King of the Ashened is Gwyn, that would be some poetry.
Veidos is more than Likely a Reference to the Dragon God from Demon’s Souls! As both Share Multiple Eyes, are incredibly Big, and are ment to be Ancient Monsters emerging from deep below in Volcanic Domains! Though while the Dragon God is Trapped, Veidos is Not!
I will agree they look very similar! I had chose not to make that comparison in this video mainly (1) cause I wasn't 100% confident at the time for whatever reason; (2) because I felt it might be easier to just keep all references to Dark Souls even if its possible some cards resembled Demon Souls/ Elden Ring stuff. Of course, a lot of this is speculation, so I don't doubt you could be right.
You can make a deck that resembles dark souls lore without any ashened cards. Simply combine fire kings, labyrinth and Traptrix. Traptrix Atrax standing in for the witch of izalith and her daughters of chaos, labyrinth the demons of the asylum the fire kings the ever living lords of cinder and you can use tech cards like skull meister to represent grave lord Nito. Add in spells such as rekindling and Circle of the fire kings and you cover the ancient rites of dark souls. Trap cards are a bit odd however as trap holes don't work for dark souls lore mimicry here but Atrax works with any normal trap so try to support the other archetypes here. The extra deck can be fun, Thunder dragon Colossus can represent the ancient dragons, fossil warrior skull knight, the undead soldiers of grave lord Nito, masked hero dark law, Artorius the abyss walker, diamond dire wolf, sif, great grey wolf, lightning warrior is a niche reference to Gwyn and his war with the dragons and as for links, Promethean princess, bestower of flames and underworld goddess of the closed world. These two represent the final eras of the dark souls world. To do elden ring on the other hand swap fire kings for Dragunity and Traptrix for phantom knights, add in beast warriors like the brotherhood of the fire fist and drop labrynth all together. Rebuild the extra deck as appropriate.
Albaz is very much still a fantastic story. I love how it’s original to Yugioh and Konami fleshed it out pretty damn well (and hopefully will make an anime out of it). But yeah, Ashened is pretty damn sick too! Thank you, by the way, for watching!
Hey, Small World and Prosperity can work wonders in place of Bonfire. In some places, Small World might even better - more easily bridges into Veidos + any other non-archetypal combo pieces.
@@pk_tuneworld Remember that Save point on Dark Souls,. you start your game on bonfires.. literally, it's just dissappointing how pricy bonfire spell card is,.cause sometimes you'd start your normal combo with Spell bonfire searching Priestess.
SO TRUE. Me and my friends were joking that the deck would bad to simulate the difficulty of Dark Souls. I regret jinxing it. BUT, maybe the OCG will give it something broken as they occasionally do to TCG exclusives.
You don't need to believe me here, but I will say that I purposefully made that choice. I understand Gwyndolin was born a boy. But, given the fact that Gwyn raised them like a maiden + Gwyndolin, for most of their life, accepts being a maiden, I figured it would be easier to use that word.
I mean, the archetypal deck core right now is pretty cheap (under 75), but Bonfires are like 95 still and that card is somewhat necessary for the deck. So, even if the deck isn't good and or doesn't end up being good with future waves of support, we might be held back by the current fire meta... You could cope like I am though and play Small World/ Prosperity in place of the former :)
@@pk_tuneworld 75 is a lot for a deck considered "very bad and useless without outside support" as I've heard people say🤣 I'm just salty I didn't buy Veidos when it was 25 cents. Cause now it's 10 euros for no reason... Priestess has the waifu tax so that's another thing, but I just want them as cards without deck, Bonefire is overpriced as hell for what it does, should cost 3 euros for me, but Konami is Konami. So I don't think I could play them like a coherent deck, maybe splashing in stuff and using rogue things Or just a crazy list like I love making, without staples or the pots since I hate to banish cards from my ED🤣
Won't lie to you, the title is definitely clickbait. The video is really just an Ashened lore video. In reality, the DT, WC, and Albaz lore all might eclipse this archetype in terms of tragic events.
You're right! Though, I still chose to refer to Gwyndolin as a "maiden" given they were raised as one by Gwyn and, for most of their life, chose to live as such.

Hey, Small World and Prosperity can work wonders in place of Bonfire. In some places, Small World might even better - more easily bridges into Veidos + any other non-archetypal combo pieces.
@@pk_tuneworld I mean Bonfire = Dark Souls.
@@pk_tuneworld Remember that Save point on Dark Souls,. you start your game on bonfires.. literally, it's just dissappointing how pricy bonfire spell card is,.cause sometimes you'd start your normal combo with Spell bonfire searching Priestess.
Is pretty neat, almost rekindled my want to build the archetype, until i remembered its pyro and would need 3 bonfires
You can cope like I am and play Prosperity/ Small World instead :)
These cards could be absolutely garbage and idc imma get the cards souly for the dark souls reference
Wenda just looking at you like 👁🗨 👄👁🗨
Shhh, don’t tell them I clickbaited
DT and WC lore definitely tragic
Such great artworks wasted on a bad deck. Not even surprised at this point.
SO TRUE. Me and my friends were joking that the deck would bad to simulate the difficulty of Dark Souls. I regret jinxing it. BUT, maybe the OCG will give it something broken as they occasionally do to TCG exclusives.
"gwyndolin"-->"maiden". He doesn't know 💀
You don't need to believe me here, but I will say that I purposefully made that choice. I understand Gwyndolin was born a boy. But, given the fact that Gwyn raised them like a maiden + Gwyndolin, for most of their life, accepts being a maiden, I figured it would be easier to use that word.
Just hope that the deck not being considered good makes the cards cheaper
I mean, the archetypal deck core right now is pretty cheap (under 75), but Bonfires are like 95 still and that card is somewhat necessary for the deck. So, even if the deck isn't good and or doesn't end up being good with future waves of support, we might be held back by the current fire meta...
You could cope like I am though and play Small World/ Prosperity in place of the former :)
@@pk_tuneworld 75 is a lot for a deck considered "very bad and useless without outside support" as I've heard people say🤣
I'm just salty I didn't buy Veidos when it was 25 cents. Cause now it's 10 euros for no reason...
Priestess has the waifu tax so that's another thing, but I just want them as cards without deck, Bonefire is overpriced as hell for what it does, should cost 3 euros for me, but Konami is Konami.
So I don't think I could play them like a coherent deck, maybe splashing in stuff and using rogue things
Or just a crazy list like I love making, without staples or the pots since I hate to banish cards from my ED🤣
I have heard this arcitype is bad, so is hard to win? Like dark souls !
TRUE
surprised Albaz wasn't mentioned...
Won't lie to you, the title is definitely clickbait. The video is really just an Ashened lore video. In reality, the DT, WC, and Albaz lore all might eclipse this archetype in terms of tragic events.
@@pk_tuneworld Ashen Albaz is missing the ed missing his link to the deck archetype. we could have had combos lol.
qwyndolin is a guy lol
You're right! Though, I still chose to refer to Gwyndolin as a "maiden" given they were raised as one by Gwyn and, for most of their life, chose to live as such.
@@pk_tuneworld true I just found it funny people forget that lol
Smash.
