Sheesh, finally a hands on live demonstration! Mine was stuffed with dirt and didn't budge at all. Thank you, you helped me separate it with confidence 👍
Simple and clear. Nice video. People saying a screwdriver damages the plastic when you separate the key into two pieces - use a medium sized flathead screwdriver that fills the hole and twist gently. That way it doesn't chew away at the plastic.
Excellent!! Took mine to bits, replaced battery and tested. Didn't work - but on dissembling again I found the contacts were low, so raised them and reassemble, with old battery, and it worked a treat. Thank you.
Awesome- thanks so much for this video. My 18 year old daughter bought her 1st car. 2001 passat so i'm trying to help her take care of this car. it's a beauty!!
Oh for anyone with a mk6 Golf R or any later gen car with the same key, this is not the DIY for our keys. Our keys don't coke apart in 2 pieces like that. Flip the key open and where the key is folded you'll notice what looks like a tab. Gently apply pressure with a flat head on that tab while slightly pulling up the (back side of key) and as soon as the tab is released from its hole the bottom, rear part will flip up from the side of the tab. Other side will still be press-fitted so just just pry that side up a few mm and it's off. If u try to do what this video is showing on our specific keys, you'll be scratching/gouging your key for nothing. In summary: open key, locate square shaped tab, press that tab in with a any pointy object (even a house key would work) while u lightly pull up on the edge on the tab side to release the tab and you're home free.
Nice useful video, now someone just needs to tell me how to do without the aid of a screwdriver, its damaging the smooth plastic finish and im not keen on mashing um my only key
you might need something like this www.ifixit.com/Store/Tools/Plastic-Opening-Tools/IF145-000 With shipping costs it's a rip-off, I know, but being made of plastic, they are way better to open plastic stuff up without leaving any mark or dent. Maybe you can find something around that could be repurposed to do the same
thanks thats genius,I might go to the chinese shop see if theyve got something similar i really dont want to end up with a mangled key and it looks like a handy little tool for other jobs too
I have this same key fob for a 2004 vw GTI. The red LED light suddenly started blinking non-stop and has been doing this for more than an hour at this point. I cannot get it to stop blinking by pressing any of the 3 buttons or cycling open and close the metal portion of the key. What's the problem with the key fob? When you reply, please let me know if you speak from personal experience or if you're guessing what the problem and solution may be. Thank you.
When you gonna do clutch padal replacement ? As my clip behind the clutch padal snap off and the back yard garage they asking for 180 for labour+ part :(

Hey quick question: so I replaced my battery, and the red light works on the remote, but it still doesn't unlock my doors AAAAAANNNND I've tried almost every way imaginable to re-program the key, even the one in the manual and the double key method. What do you think could be going on? Do you have a suggestion where I could start troubleshooting? Thanks so much for your videos.
Did you ever figure out this problem I have the exact same problem and I always have to open the car manually while the alarm goes off would appreciate it

You shouldn't touch the battery when replacing it as it shortens the life of the battery use a tissue
