      This is one of those that could have costed less. If you have to remember when going for a job, it pays salary plus benefit which could be 401k, and health insurance. That value has to be taken into account. Plus regardless of what Ramsey says, it gives you good credit. The value of a steady job is worth the debt at times.

    Okay, future teachers out there. First of all, we need you. Second of all, you do NOT need anything past a bachelor's degree to teach, unless you're going to teach past high school. Third, you do not need to rack up $175,000 in debt to get a teaching degree. There are many other schools around that offer the same degree. The school that will hire you, will not care that you graduated from a division one school. They only care that you're qualified, and licensed for the position they need filled. I graduated with a secondary teaching degree with a little over $5000 in student loans. I didn't do anything extra other than working in the summertime, and keeping a work study job during the school year.

She should find a college near her that would make a deal where she works as an assistant coach in exchange for her to attend classes working on a masters degree. She clearly has passion. So she works as a teacher for Main income, then gets to "work" on her passion to get Masters which will put her in higher pay scale, plus get her closer to doctorate. Then she gets PhD. Brian you are not addressing the problems with the student loans. We, the tax payers, finance all the student loans and we, made it easy for the 18 years old to rack up loans that would shock everyone. And because we finance the loans the law of supply and demand no longer applies to the cost of college because when the tuition goes up, the students just get more loans. If we apply to real law of supply and demand and the government doesn't get involved, when the tuition goes up, less students are able to attend and that will keep prices down.

    Teachers can work during the summer. And wait tables at night. And tutor after school. And her BF needs a job!!!

      You’re missing the point- her arrogance would prevent her from doing anything of the sort. I can just hear her telling the other waiters how she was a D1 water polo player for the University of M; while she slings hash and wipes off tables.

      Yes, a teacher can easily tack another 10k onto their salary with part-time work, coaching stipends, tutoring, etc. She'll also go up on the pay scale within the next couple of years.

    I tried to get my daughter to attend a public graduate school ( for a law degree ) Instead of a private school. She has about the same level of debt as this young girl and is now married with kids and she and her children are suffering. But they have made a commitment to try to pay off their loans. When your daughter is older, married and wants to go to grad school, it’s hard to stop her from doing dumb things.

      We Chinese have an old saying "儿孙自有儿孙福,莫为儿孙做马牛”, which means your children have their own fate, don't be a horse or cow for them. Your daughter is an adult that will have to make her own decision finally and she will have her own consequences for her own decision. There is nothing you can worry about her coz it wouldn't help. Especially you've done your part by voicing your opinion.

    It's pretty amazing to think on this one. Girl gets scholarship to Michigan and meets boyfriend who goes on to the NFL. You'd think that would be a dream come true situation for anyone. Yet, she's at poverty level.

    • @ShikataGaNai100
      @ShikataGaNai100 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +SeanP7195 It is fairly obvious that she did NOT get a scholarship; she was a walk-on in a non-revenue sport, which is why she paid out-of-state tuition. And, why is it that I have the feeling that the BF never even got a call from the NFL?

    • @SeanP7195

      ShikataGaNai100 She had a scholarship and it was pulled. This is common in NCAA athletics.

    Maybe her parents did not intervene because they just did not know better themselves. I was raised by a great grandmother who only went to 9th grade. She was clueless about a lot of stuff, but thank God, I still got some good math and budget training, because my great grandmother had run her own business. So I went to college and yes, I got loans, but I was very conservative and avoided them as much as possible. Now, with good budgeting, I live comfortably and will be debt-free in about five years. Also, I will benefit from some loan forgiveness, due to my public interest employment. I would not change a thing. But if I was younger and about to go to college now, I'd probably would avoid all loans. I know I will be encouraging my son to avoid any educational loan.

    • @evagreen299
      @evagreen299 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right on that. Neither of my parents went to college, in fact they barely graduated high school lol. But they are excellent budgeters and know how to use money. I'm going to start applying to colleges IN STATE and avoid every loan possible. I'm thinking about becoming an accountant or doctor, still haven't decided haha. But you're absolutely right and I agree. Just because you have a college degree doesn't mean you're smart.
