They're trained to be good at basically everything in order to be able to save as many lives as they can, and the thanks they want is to be able for them to thank the men and women they saved to come back home alive. It gives me chills knowing that this is the closest we have to modern day warrior monks, and the reward they want is to be able to see the fruits of their labor in saving lives to be a success, even at their cost of their own lives, to see men and women they rescued be able to see their family again. The altruism of the job... no wonder no one dares talk shit about PJs, because they're legitimate battlefield angels.

    • @jameslarsen5764

This is completely false. Their "combat diving" is not the same diving that SEALs do and the training is different, these guys are Special Operation Rescuers/Paramedics. They don't learn maritime combat skills like SEALs, they don't learn Unconventional Warfare skills like Green Berets (aka Special Forces, which you incorrectly used to refer to all Special Operations Forces), and they don't learn raiding and direct action skills to the extent that Rangers, and all other SOF for that matter, do.

I have nothing but greatest respect to all medics, whether civilian or military. Coincidentally just watched a movie last week “The last full measure” about a PJ during the Vietnam War who ultimately gave up his life to administer aid to the surrounded soldiers of the 1st Inf Div as their own medic was wounded and medivac’ed out. It just so happened I was in a grocery store yesterday and met a retired PJ. I live near an Air Force base. He had on a t-shirt that showed he had been a PJ. Easy guess huh. I walked up & asked him if he was a PJ & after he said yes I asked him how hard was it to walk with big brass balls. We shared a good laugh. We talked a little shop and I shared some info about what I did. I made part of the helicopters in which he flew. PJs are special human beings.

Wanting to be a CRO was the reason why I first stepped into a US military recruiter’s office. And I'm here today to tell you, if you ask any PJ how many lives have you saved? They won't know. But we remember the ones we lost.
We fight. We go into battle with death itself. And it gets personal. Even decades later. The mindset you learn, will follow you long after your body gets soft.

The middle man at 7:37 is Technical Sergeant Gavin Fisher, who was awarded Purple Heart and Silver Star in 2019. His story is amazing and incredible.
"In Ghazni (Afgha), Fisher’s actions helped save the lives of 10 critically injured soldiers, medically evacuate 20 casualties and kill 118 Taliban fighters.
The combined joint special operations task force, of which Fisher was a part, was in the midst of a 10-day mission to help drive more than 500 Taliban fighters away from Ghazni city. Fisher was serving as the rear gunner for the lead vehicle of the task force’s convoy, when an ambush erupted. Taliban forces opened fire on the armored vehicles with rocket-propelled grenades and heavy machine guns, the release said.
Fisher was hit by grenade shrapnel, but kept fighting back by returning fire at the Taliban and guiding his vehicle away from the danger.
He cared for two critically injured soldiers, stopping their massive bleeding and giving them blood transfusions - all while continuing to fight off two Taliban fighters. He kept those soldiers stable until a medical evacuation team arrived, the release said. Even though Fisher was wounded, the Air Force said, he still refused to leave with the patients.
Then, a second ambush erupted. Five more partner force teammates were critically injured, and Fisher treated them and requested another evacuation..."
What a true hero. Truly amazing.

As a 24 yr old female I am determined and training myself now before I attempt to tryout. I’d rather try and fail then to not try at all. This job immediately caught my eye once I started learning more about it and not only seems like a badass job but imagine the feeling you get from helping save souls. Literally tearing up as I’m typing this because these PJs are like angels. ❤

Was in the AF for 4 years. Everytime I was at Lackland and saw those PJ candidates running and singing Jodie’s, a chill went down my spine. Those guys are absolute legends.

I’m in my last semester of college at a top 20 university. However, I feel that God has called upon a higher purpose in service. I’ve been dreaming of being a PJ for a year now. I’m recovering off a shoulder surgery, about the go though a hip surgery. Then it’s time to get some. Leaving this here so I can reflect on the journey it took for me to earn my maroon beret. What an honor it would be to serve alongside these courageous and dutiful men. #SENDME

I found out about PJs not too long ago and this is definitely a dream job I would like to have in the future. I know that if I put all my effort into it I can definitely become one. Im just hoping I have what it takes.

@@101Ari101 I don't know what happens currently but I just continued on into my guaranteed job in Security/ LE. Times were different back then 70s-80s.Now days they'd probably pIace you in another AFSC.I ended my USAF career w/ some special and tactical training as well as a lot of civilian training.I worked side by side on occasion with actual PJs but was never in any of their pipeline classes. I left the AF and I retired after being a LEO, firefighter/ medic, (tactical medic & flight medic included) w/ just shy of 30 years in the business and I think I did ok.

As a Sailor from 1993 - 1997 AD and 1997 -1999 reserves and a Marine from 1999 - 2003, I always revered PJ's as the tip of the sphere... Not just their operational abilities, but their life saving among their operational abilities is just awe inspiring... Semper Fi and Semper Paratis guys...
