Does this method apply to 3rd gen trucks? Picked up a used Stealth 64 and I'm thinking the wastegate is not fully closing Have an afe one sitting on my stock turbo I may swap them out.
I tested for boost leaks today and im haveing air rush out around the rod of the wastegate, does this mean my wastegates diagram is bad, if I clamp off the hose to the wastgate it stops leaking air around the rod? Lastly at about half throttle pulling a hill empty I'm only getting about 5lbs of boost on my gauge, is my wastegate stuck open, or half way? Thanks
Been looking everywhere, bought a new stock wastegate for my stock 01 automatic it's got the hy35 and I dont know how many turns I need to tighten or loosen it to get it to stock psi any help?
Thoroughbred Diesel I have a 1996 Dodge 2500 Cummins 12 valve i wanna get some more boost, i have a stock HX35 with cold air intake, air dog 150, 4inch exhaust, fuel plate moved forward, no silencer ring, intake horn AFE, and some new inter cooler pipes. Would a waste gate boost elbow and possibly a wicked wheel be a good idea in my set up?
James E The wicked wheel would be a good addition for you truck because it is going to give you better performance in your power band. The wicked wheel is designed to move a greater volume of air and really makes a big difference in the trucks “sweet spot”. Any upgrade to your actuator will help you to maintain the boost levels as well. Yes, both would be a good upgrade. www.thoroughbreddiesel.com/dieselsite/wicked-wheel.htm
Thoroughbred Diesel Thanks for the information! i just wasn't sure if it was a safe upgrade on a moderately upgraded 96 Dodge Cummins but i recently found out my Transmission is rebuilt with a BD pressure lock and Billet internals.
Tnx for the informative video. Wondering what wastegate you’d recommend for my used but newly swapped BW PhatShaft S362. It’s starting to crack at 20PSI and tightened actuator rod 7 full turns, reinstalled back on the truck and still only making 20-25PSI. Not sure if wastegate is hooped or pucks maybe burnt. Suggestions?? Thank you.
I would look at the fueling first. Make sure that the truck is fueling correctly. Are you seeing lots of black smoke on the top end, that's an indication of a WG failure.
@@thoroughbreddiesel i pulled a set of 150hp injectors bc they were really sooty black way too easy with city driving, replaced them with a set of Industrial Injection 80hp sticks.... runs cleaner now { no black smoke at top end} but lacks power and man she wont light til 2200rpm in 4th gear where as my old HX35 would spool around 1600 in 3rd, so ya i just might swap injectors and try the bigger sticks.. appreciate the reply, ty

There are upgraded wastegates for those trucks but this one for the 2nd gens will not work.

Yes that would be a WG failure, and its keeping your WG from functioning correctly.

How do I know if I have the HY35 turbo
Traditionally the automatic trucks have the HY turbos. You can always call us with the number off your turbo and we can cross reference it.
Will need a boost fooler to run 40 psi?
If you get the code yes.
My truck does not appear to have a boost elbow do I need to get one if I get this waste gate
You figure this out? I have the same question
shouldn't a wastegate vacuum line go to the intake manifold? just asking...
No vaccum on a diesel. For accurate boost reference for opening the wastegate, closer to the compressor, the better.
My instructions say to turn 1 revolution....you are doing 6...am I missing something?
On our application, it tooks six turns for the wastegate to hold the proper pressure.
Is there a waste gate actuator upgrade for the 01 automatics?
If there is we don't currently offer it.

Yes it's called a J hook but you can make them homemade from parts at home Depot
Hardest part putting the c clip back on
But what gives you the most power is the sticker that comes in the box 📦 !
A good set of vise grips is the easiest way I found!
