- Great lead battle in the Castle Combe Special GT series , 8 August 1990, between George Douglas (Skoda Rover V8) the MG 6R4s of David Appleby, Sam Nelson and Rob Dennis and the Mk1 Escort of Nigel Mustill with it's Sierra Cosworth RS500 engine. Behind them an eclectic mix of Imps, Davrians, Escorts, a Sierra Cosworth and even a Dutton. A great series at this point with great diversity of entries.
What a blast from the past, was very good friends with Robin Harvey that raced in this series and it was always fantastic racing. This is what started my love of imps.
Great footage of the Mod Sports and Davrians.
the selection of cars is incredible, would love to see a national series like this
Surprising number of Metros
What all british circuits used to be ...Fast and dangerous !!
Nice footage.
Special GTs were fabulous until they started letting Mallocks et al in. I'm a bit biased due to the prevalence of Maguire Stilettos and others running Imp engines though!
@slash1229 - no the start was exactly as it is now. They just neutered the circuit because speeds at Old Paddock (and Camp) were getting silly. Old Paddock used to be flat in top, inside wheel on the grass!!
Wow Castle Combe the old circuit without the chicanes (bobbys and the esses). Did they start the race where bobbys is now???
The big Rover didnt last 😢long
