FYI, prices for custom guitars in the US will start at about $4000, and rise fairly rapidly from there. Fancy binding and rosette work from a well-known builder will often push the price up above 5 figures. Name builders will often have a waiting list years long. The guitars shown in your video are nylon-stringed spanish/classical style, where steel-stringed guitars are more commonly played in the US. One is not 'better' than the other, but a given player will typically stick with one style, as they differ significantly in feel. I'm adding San Bartolome to my map!
This is great! I live in Quito and the first time I went to Cuenca, I took a driver to go to some of the towns. I also went to Chordeleg and bought some silver earrings! I was also happy to learn that several of the towns I visited took their Indigenous names back. One of them used to be called Santa Barbara.
Thank you for this video! My husband and I have been to Chordeleq and many different places in Ecuador. Each time we go we discover new things. Ecuador has so much to offer. What a beautiful country!
Saludos from puerto rico, glad you guys are living *the life*.. jewelry was gorgeous, the guitars were *works of art*.. prices, excellent..enjoy..and thanks for the videos .
This route brought back fond memories of my first visit to Cuenca about 15 years ago when my father-in-law (RIP) took us (my wife and I) driving through the same towns. I recall that on the way to Gualaceo two guys suddenly raised a rope across the road and demanded a toll payment. My father-in-law (Ecuadorian) angrily told them off and demanded they remove the rope, to which they complied seeing the anger on his face. In Chordeleg (silent "g") we visited a small produce market at the end of the street and at the base of a small hill. There I saw the Amazon size version of a fruit I know from the Caribbean and was in awe. While the Caribbean version was something like a green peapod about 8" x 2" this one in Chordeleg was big a a full-size machete, about 30" x 4" and it actually took a machete to open the pod for the sweet silky covered beans inside. We had a picnic lunch in a park close by and there were a few scary packs of wild dogs roaming the park. Your video brought back some nice and emotional memories of the wonderful times I had with my father and mother-in-law every year we visited him in Cuenca. The black boots looked good Amelia! I would usually buy insoles for shoes that I got from Ecuador as I noticed they usually did not have ample heel support. Thanks Amelia and JP.
Thank you so much for these videos. Ecuador has been calling me for years and I'm in the process of sharing it with my husband now as an option for us by next year. We think we're going to take your advice and take a trip first. Cuenca has been my city of choice and I'm still watching your videos as we decide.
Thank You for bringing so much of my country to the world. I to go back soon. I will be connecting you when the time comes!!!! I miss my beautiful Ecuador!!! Blessings
Loved this video! You can make this kind of touring video anytime, please ☺ Another great job, you guys are really made for sharing your experiences. Great filming, editing and commentary. Thank you, no click-bait on this channel!!
“Ecuadorean Ronald Reagan” 😂 Great video! I loved seeing these 3 towns and their specialties. And all within a (jam packed) day trip from Cuenca! Excellent choices in the jewelry and footwear, Amelia!
I love the earrings you picked Amelia! Lindos aretes! I had no idea how much work it take to make a piece! Our artisans are amazing! I also liked el colibrí! Amazing prices! I am knowing my country through you guys’d! Los miro siempre. Gran trabajo!
I really enjoyed your videos! I'm planning to retired on Cuenca, ( casita del campo) We love ❤ there, especially that weather, never is hot. Greetings from TEXAS. Love you guys
alright. I’ve missed you guys. My day just brightened!!! I am traveling and had an Ecuadorian assistant at the gate of a flight I was taking and. Is you guys. Wow!!!
What pretty towns! The jewelry that Ameilia purchased is beautiful, my favorite is the pair of earrings, and how cool to see the manufacturing process.
You're drinking agua de frescos. Growing up my mom taught to make that special tea, I had to go to the garden every morning and pick many herbs and flowers. Delicious tea 🍵 😋 thanks for the memories, beautiful places.❤️
We were in the same jewelry store when we were there in 2019 and got myself some earrings I wear nearly every day. Notice how that store owner trusted you with all those pieces while she attended to another customer. Says a lot about what the nation is like.
Thanks guys for another great video. It’s -4 here in Canada and we are just starting spring. Watching your videos warm us up and I can’t wait to visit beautiful Ecuador. Thanks a bunch for sharing your experiences and for all the great information while my wife and I research retirement destinations.
Those earrings look great on you, Amelia. Although I agree with JP's that a dark background brings out the intricate details of that beautiful jewelry, I rather like the subtle background of your scarf as well. I also would have bought that old lady's herbs.
Loved your video thank you so much so fortunate you don't to have a reaction to all this new adventure of flowers and plants very interesting as always
Excellent video! JP you are in the ranks of Hollywood professionals and ofcourse Amelia is the Hollywood star! So nice to learn of Ecuador's rich cultural artistry of hand made guitars and jewelry. JP, you are so sweet in advising Amelia to buy both pendants .... I say that to my wife as well when she is indecisive. Although it's true, the ladies don't need our permission. 😊
I can’t wait to go back to Cuenca in January! We are going to spend 2 weeks to make sure I can handle the altitude. I now know what one of our day trips will be! Love these kind of videos. More please!
Thanks for the very informative and fun video. Would love everywhere you went, the shoes, filigree, food, would have wanted to go to the orchid house though. Makes me want to visit Cuenca. 🌹😁
Great video! The three towns are beautiful. Hope you come a next time soon to visit Sígsig and the Chobshi area. Wilson is a great guide. Lots of knowledge and experience!
I love to visit the churches and cathedrals in towns when vacationing. Could you please make some brief video forays into the churches of theses towns you visit (if they are worthwhile to show)?
Hi my name is Eddie and I'm coming to Cuenca this winter to stay for three months and I am a guitar teacher. Maybe while I'm there I can give you some pointers.

Excellent vid- sorry I haven't seen many lately -
I recognized the song the guitar maker played. It was very very popular in the 1960s. I don't remember who sang it, though.
Great video, thank you.
