True. I've over volted to 9v with those cheap lasers and u can't burn. The focus and beam profile of a rectangle does not lend well to burning. And most $1 store lasers die when you go to 9v.
I bought a 100mw blue diode from Amazon for $15 and it came with a battery box, full metal (aixiz) housing and focus wheel.

Those diodes, and even slightly better ones made to run at 5v will only fire at full brightness for less than 5 minutes if over volted to 7.2v at 1 amp.
Its also luck of the draw, as some you can run at 9v and some die instantly at 9v
They're just cheap bad diodes with limited focus and a poor beam profile that is a rectangle instead of a dot.
I've never tried burning anything with them because i have a 200mw red laser and 2 100mw UV lasers. The red 200mw burns for sure, and I've never gotten a dollar store diode to be as bright. But then again, i don't have a bench power supply.
