I was 9 and would go see Mid South in Lafayette. Right down the road was a Popeyes Fried Chicken. Me my friend and my dad would go get a 2 piece with red beans and rice, before the show. Robert Gibson walked into the Popeyes. I was star struck, and will never forget that moment 😊.
When they whipped 2 & TA with the belts. I always wondered if 2 was really pissed off. He had an ugly mark on him, and he threw a chair pretty hard at Bobby.
Having lived in Thibodaux while working in Houma, in ‘98, this is fascinating! When I was a kid, living in Eunice, La., I saw Mid-South once at the Eunice High School gym. The only thing I remember about it was that Ted DiBiase and Mr. Olympia were there and both faces.
I can't believe the 80s were 40 years ago, and Im only 25. I remember wishing I were born in the 70s and thinking I had just missed them, now they're 50 years away.
@Breakfast_of_Champions I was born in 1984 and it's the same thing. Rolling around in the back of dad's station wagon, listening to whatever song was on the radio. We would have familybget together at the park and my parents would be secretly day drinking out of the sight of the park rangers. By 2001 it was over. The world irrevocably changed for the worse. Never to be as glorious as it once was again.
The 80s were a fantastic decade. A relatively peaceful, fun, colorful time. Lots of expression and character everywhere you looked. It was an amazing time to grow up in.
Fuck Jericho and his learning tree, Corny most definitely sat under the learning tree of Dundee & Watts with this angle and how it developed over the weeks.
I think I remember hearing that Freddy Blassie got acid thrown on his face during an entrance. I don't recall where I heard that one, but it's a good anecdote of the lengths that fans used to go to.
I had been watching Mid-South wrestling for 3 or 4 years when Jim cornette came along. We had been so use to skandor Akbar being the heel manager that when JC came along it was such a different presentation and it really Drew us in. Bill Watts knew we needed something different and he was right. To think that the rock and roll in Midnight we're not exactly a full-blown proven commodity yet I believe, was part of the magic. Jared didn't know how rich he was letting that crop of talent ride out. All I know is by the time the rock and roll are shoving corny space in the cake I was hooked. And have been for 40 years.
Man, stories like the ones Corny told at the beginning. That's how brothers are truly formed. Those are some legit bonds and ties when you're literally protecting your teammates. Their lives are in your hands every night. I can't imagine the implicit trust between Bobby, Dennis and Jim around this time. No wonder why The Midnight stayed close for 40 years.
I just want to point out that I accidentally listened to this twice and it was still super entertaining. Corny if you ever read this, which i know you won't, you are the man
With all the effort they put into protecting their manager it is no wonder Jim Cornette loves each and every individual member of the Midnight Express EXCEPT Paul E Dangerously.
The money issue is apples and oranges. It is different and also folks now don’t have to actually kill themselves to make good money. I know some will say that is a good thing but as entertaining and fun to hear as it is, what these guys were doing was not a sustainable thing
Really? Fans would want to come see if the good guy would kick their ass…or if they could get a chance to kick their ass themselves …and that brought people to the arena and putting money in their pockets
@@edmundponichtera7195I’m 30 and fucking love it. Watched wrestling from 98-05 when Eddie died . Would have loved to have been there for the territory days
How many times can someone hear Jim say the same thing about modern wrestling every week and still be entertained by it like it's still 2020? The classic content is where Jim shines the most because, he actually enjoys talking about it.
Jim as Mario jumping over the Pitfall! alligators is simple CLASSIC!🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾
My favorite one is jim in a car with the aew roater 😂😂😂
No rope
Jim is a master storyteller.
and a master baiter
These are awesome ! I could listen to Jim on this topic all day !
I love listening to these territory stories. Makes a refreshing change from modern wrestling.
Jim is remembering tales from 40 years ago. I'm from Louisiana, and I'm amazed that he remembers all the place names and pronounces them correctly.
Ok, so I'm 58 yrs old, and these segments are the best, quality entertainment, from someone that was there experiencing everything, it's great 🔔

You forgot to include the most interesting part of the story... just what did Robert Gibson order?!?
@@Adam-kn3tv nothing he was looking for someone, not sure who.
@@charlescomeauxjr9037 Maybe he was looking for Popeye

Man this is what hooked me on this podcast
I'm overjoyed that the travel tales and history lessons are coming back. That's the real meat of this show.
Me to
Me too
I could listen to these old stories all day long. Great stuff!

I still love that story about Bobby front facelocking that plowboy and Jim kicking some old man in the groin.
The fact he 'wiped out the entire ring side seat section' with a fucking wrestler hanging off his neck that makes me roar 🤣
Love these historical dives. So many good stories.
“We got, jumped on and attacked in the goddamn dark.”😂😂🤣🤣 26:01 mark 😭
These are always fun keep them coming I love these videos because I learn so much about mid-south wrestling.
I can't believe the 80s were 40 years ago, and Im only 25. I remember wishing I were born in the 70s and thinking I had just missed them, now they're 50 years away.
We weren't conscious how much of a good time it was until it was gone.

‘87 here and it was a great childhood. But I am much happier here now in ‘24 with all the decades worth of cool shit to play with.

The only thing Jericho has in common with a tree is age.

It's amazing more heels didn't get REALLY hurt going back to the locker room. The Southern fans are crazy!
Oh they did 😂😂

I gotta say I really enjoy hearing these stories.
I'm tryna picture jim slipping a punch😂😂😂
I listen to jim cornette and zoom in zoom out family guy to sleep every night for going on about 2 years. Everyone have a goodnight!
These are the shows I enjoy as a 46 year old man
Talk about a missed opportunity. Buddy Landel with Jim and the Midnight would have been a great crew.
Budrows demons cost him a lot of money and opportunities in the business, sadly

26:50 😂 I cant stop fucking laughing, i got this mental image in my head now.
I remember going to shows at the MS Coast Coliseum around 81/82. But yes, Tuesday nights and dark as hell in there.
These are the shows my dad used to tell me about. He used to go to all these shows in down south Louisiana
Rural Louisiana is unique: they’ve got boudin balls and drive-thru daiquiris.
We need more Watch-Along vids !!!!
"Off we go to Thibodeaux." 😂 This stuff from Corny almost sounds like a Southern take on a Hope-Crosby "Road" movie.
when jim speaks is like i can see it almost like him there standing next to him and i can see and hear whats going on amazing story telling
I am imagining the riot that would have happened if he had mistaken Paul Boesch for a mark and attacked him.
I just want to point out that I accidentally listened to this twice and it was still super entertaining. Corny if you ever read this, which i know you won't, you are the man
I’ve seen all from 1980-Now Jim and I are Encyclopedias of wrestling what a life
Hopefully they continue with this sooner than later
Jim Cornette is a true American treasure. We don't deserve this man honestly.
The amount of ads on this one is insane for me

Two video games combined? Huh?? Is that it??

Super Mario Corny with a dash of Pitfall!!
Didn’t Bill Watts at anytime ever thought about Road fatigue on the wrestlers?
Nope the only thing Bill cared about was money and I like Bill not saying anything bad about him just facts
This stuff is better than the AEW or WWE reviews.
watching paint dry and grass grow is better than AEW
"Set the record in sixa weeksa " 😂 okay mario

The benefit was in drawing money. And Jim and the Midnight drew A LOT during this time.
