Love Thin Lizzy. Ever since I was a kid, The Boys Are Back In Town was the only song I had heard from them. I went back last year to listen to all the albums to see if any others were good because I love that song so much. I quickly decided I had been missing out on this fantastic band. I can never remember which one it is, but there is only 1 album out of 12 that I'm not too keen on, which is pretty good going. Definitely do more Lizzy.
Phil Lynott (vocals & bass) was Thin Lizzy's leader and primary songwriter... He had quite a bit of SOUL as a black Irishman (His father was from British Guiana... This was from 1974, their 4th album 'Nightlife'... their first album also to feature the twin lead guitars of Scott Gorham & Brian Robertson, their classic line-up w/ Brian Downey (drums) Thin Lizzy would break big in the US in 1976 w/ the album 'Jailbreak'... the singles 'The boys are back in town'... and 'Jailbreak'... are still played on classic rock stations... Metallica covered Thin Lizzy's version of 'Whiskey in the jar'... while Megadeth covered their song 'Cold sweat'... Other Thin Lizzy songs: 'Bad reputation' ... "Don't believe a word"... 'Cowboy song'... 'Dancing in the moonlight'... Phil Lynott was close friends w/ legendary Irish guitarist Gary Moore (who was in an Irish band called Skid Row in the 60's) ... he co-wrote some of Gary Moore's biggest solo songs. Lynott formed Thin Lizzy w/ Eric Bell (guitar) and Brian Downey (drums) and switched to bass, releasing their 1st album in 1971... guitarist Gary Moore often played gigs w/ Thin Lizzy on 2nd guitar, although he was featured on only 1 Thin Lizzy album ('Black Rose' in 1979) By 1974, Eric Bell quit Thin Lizzy and was replaced by 2 lead guitarists - Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson, and their twin lead sound inspired many rock/ metal bands, including Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Metallica, etc. After the success of 'Jailbreak' in 1976, Thin Lizzy remained popular in Europe but their increasing drug abuse affected the band's internal creativity and despite the success of the live record 'Live and dangerous' in 1978, Thin Lizzy fired guitarist Brian Robertson... By the early 80's, Thin Lizzy was in decline and decided to release a stellar final album 'Thunder and lightning' (12th album) in 1983 w/ guitarist John Sykes and embarked on a final tour before disbanding. In early 1986, Phil Lynott was hospitalized and passed away from organ failure at age 36 after years of he+++n abuse... Thin Lizzy regrouped in later years to tour w/ various former members and eventually put out new music under the name Black Star Riders, led by guitarist Scott Gorham. Guitarist Gary Moore passed away in 2011 at age 58.
Thin Lizzy were great live and Phil Lynott a superb front man and bassist (taken to early RIP). I was lucky enough to see them in 1980 at the Royal Empire Liverpool.
Phil Lynott was the bassist and singer. They had some really great songs. You'd doubtless know The Boys are Back in Town even though you might not have known who it was. Whiskey In The Jar is another great song. I knew the rockier stuff mainly. I did know this song as it happens but I didn't recognise it until it started. Interesting story he married the daughter of a famous tv personality here in the eighties. Sadly he died young, at 36, he had a lot of drug problems and died from complications caused by that, I believe from multiple organ failure and pneumonia.
And back to my chilfhood again lol. Love a bit of Thin Lizzy Just a heads up Red, there is a new Skinner Brothers track premiering tomorrow ! Might well be their best one yet imo.
Hey neighbor, I am a life long Thin Lizzy fan. This is a very deep rabbit hole, you are going to love it. If you want to hear the heavier side of Thin Lizzy, check out Angel Of Death.
Thank you for this, literally nobody ever does Lizzy. I saw them plenty of times live, regardless of which of the revolving door of lead guitarists was playing it was always a brilliant show. For decades Live and Dangerous was one of the best produced live albums around. Phil Lynott was the bassist and lead singer (apparently he was rather good looking as well!!!). Brian Downey was the drummer, those two were constant members, then the lead guitarists changed, but after Eric Bell left they went to the twin lead guitar sound.
King of hearts he's a lover and he give her everything King of spades, he's a brother doin' his own thing King of clubs makes a dollar King of diamonds is a wedding ring
Cool!! Never heard this one. Just have the one album,,,, JAILBREAK. Have you heard COWBOY SONG yet?? Happens to be on the for mentioned album!! Been some great guitar players in this group like Gary Moore for one. Scott Gorham I believe plays lead here and Brian Robertson also plays guitar! Great Job Neighbor! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
Just to add to that, you should check out some of the rockier stuff. You’ll probably recognise The Boys Are Back In Town and Jailbreak along with Whiskey in the Jar (long before Metallica did it!!!)

I saw Thin Lizzy 3 times and they put on a great show. Get a load of this, one of those times their back up band was AC/DC with Bon Scott. And no, AC/DC did not outshine Thin Lizzy. By the time Lizzy was done you forgot all about AC/DC.
Hey, here's some brand new + seasonally relevant RUSH adjacent music for you to react to - Alex Lifeson + The Barenaked Ladies doing Christmas music live: th-cam.com/video/C_FhrGBmrmM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hffQ3xPZIKxHIXYM

I was at that one too, it was a pretty good venue. Also a couple of years before with Brian and Scott, they were a great duo.
Hi Redhead neighbour. That album cover art was done by a famous Irish artist named Jim Fitzpatrick .who did a number of their albums.
Love Thin Lizzy.
Ever since I was a kid, The Boys Are Back In Town was the only song I had heard from them. I went back last year to listen to all the albums to see if any others were good because I love that song so much.

Band name was from a robot character called Tin Lizzy...Thin was made due to a Dublin Ireland accent saying "t" in".
Saw Lizzy a couple of times, in the UK during the late 70's. They were awesome live. Try tracks from the albums, Johny the fox, Bad reputation

Jim Fitzpatrick is the artist for Thin Lizzy cover art, and a Celtics Irish artist
The excellent sound system in our tree house has that essential stereo separation bonus
And back to my chilfhood again lol. Love a bit of Thin Lizzy
