This works easier if you anneal the metal first. Otherwise, it is too hard to cut/shape.

I have never tied to anneal them and didn't do that in the video neither. It works fine in my situation.

I’ve used this method before and have discovered that some of the bits are such hard metal that you cannot cut it with another burr until you anneal.

​@@bysykler4959she is using a carbide tip to drill. If the other bit is HSS, it shouldn’t be a problem.
Actually, if the metal is softer than that, you will need to be much more careful. That’s a the impression I got when I tried.

That was one of the first things my teacher had me try, just to humble me. There were tiny emeralds flying everywhere. This is not how you do it for really small stones. You have to cut a tiny burr over the edge of the cut stone and then carefully use the beading tool to make it a dome bead that holds the stone ever so slightly. lol It is not easy to cut the burr. Beading it is. I miss being a Goldsmith/Jeweler
