This is a fantastic video. Communities were meant to be like this! I live in a small rural town and try to work with my neighbors. In my area I am finding it hard for people to accept the community attitude.
I stayed there during covid. It's a marvellous place. Well done all those involved
I realise people who have lived in the city all their life get bored & want to go to village & live ..whereas people in the village migrate by hundreds to live in towns & cities.
I live in an urban village in north east India.
many people are giving up gardening farming knitting crocheting weaving basketry & onto lots of readymade retail stuff. it's sad.
This is amazing! I'm so jealous! I wish I could live in a village exactly like this. How inspiring! Thanks so much for showing us such a beautiful example of how communities, not just individuals, can live in harmony with nature.

Niche market organic food production and value added products such as pickles, jams, chutneys. A lot of the produce is made for local consumption only, not to be on-sold elsewhere. But the issue of farmers being economically pressured by big supermarket chains is a very real one in Australia.

Wish I would've grown up in a place like this/with people like this. What a different life I would have had! Now, as a senior, learning more about farming/permaculture and finally getting back to the land.

Hi, the local wallabies and kangaroos can smell dogs from a considerable distance as can deer in other areas of the world. They would not feel safe if dogs were allowed. There is plenty of other land nearby for those with dogs to live on.
I'm down to start an ecovillage that allows dogs and cats... who's coming with me?
Most ecovillages allow cats and dogs, just that this one chose not to so as to attract the wildlife,
how about goats and sheep ... there will only be two entrances in/out found on your left and right?

I just seen on another video all the farmers are leaving due to ppl buying goods at he shops because there cheaper. How has this problem been fixed >?
Convert cars to run on HEMP fuel and run everything on PLANTS! They grow extremely fast and help the soil. This is how everyone should live. We should all take steps toward this I know I do

Electric cars already exist. A while back I rode in a couple's car with them and they told me their car was electric, and that electric cars had existed for a while now.
Do you have any info on which would be more ecologically sustainable--electric cars or cars that run on hemp oil?
If it's the former, we should just make them more accessible to a larger number of people.

A fantastic endeavour, to be sure. You've all accomplished an amazing amount. I do have to ask: does it bother you guys how much you still rely on the electrical grid and the fossil fuels so heavily? They're both extremely ecologically exploitative, and there are alternatives to both of these. Is there any push to move toward renewable community electrical production? Production and / or use of biodeisel and butanol? Thank you again for this video.

Some work from home making use of the internet or using their hands, some commute out of the village, some are retired and earned their capital before they moved to Crystal Waters. Earning money locally is always an issue.
Sounds like the ideal place to live!

Look like a really beautiful place to live with a well thought out sustainable planning. The community aspect seems a little intimidating for me though.
Hello, there have been indigenous people living at Crystal Waters at various times through the years.
It would be good to live there to get experience and start my own eco village.

It is difficult to keep out the wildlife. Most people have fences around their vegetable gardens. Some even have light shade cloth roofs. When you live with nature you expect this kind of thing :)
do the people there have jobs on the outside (to afford the solar panels, etc)?

What kind of fish is that in the beginning?
90% of crime and over 90% of theft is poverty based. Food's produced for profit and not to feed people,shelters built for profit and not to shelter people, resources are only given to usually the highest bidder vs. who have the best skills/knowledge to use them. Zeitgeist is another similar idea, but the zeitgeist movement/Venus project still didn't look like you'd be able to grow your own food wherever there was space, the Venus project didn't have rooftop farming. I only speak English so in order my favorites would be New Zealand(I think they have an agriculture/environmental institute), Lasqueti island BC, Australia and then London England. There are at least 8 European countries that have Eco villages, surprisingly Germany has at least 2. This one Eco village/cooperative in London England is on a national or city park, since it`s like city council land they sorta can`t be taxed property tax ,so the deal is that the people do the grounds work and property maintenance!!!

Yes., mulching is part of permaculture and is used extensively in this EcoVillage.

The region where the ecovillage is situated was spared from the recent wildfires, fortunately. Although it is in a high fire risk location.

Its basic psychology and emotional human needs 101. People invest(waste) lots of time & $ in non-food producing pets to be their companions(to make up for pathetic/miserable or failed love life) When you live in community like this you have real meaningful relationships so the void you were filling with pets in a desolate society doesn't feel so empty. If the petshop wasn't a multibillion $ industry, not nearly as many people would be sold on the concept of pets=happiness. I have dogs BTW :)
I know buying land in 89 was alot easier and less harder to do what you want, but how hard is it to buy land to start an ecovillage within county legality in usa? As compared to buying land for yourself and not for making a community? Do you have to form a home owner association? Pay extra on the taxes of the land? Or could you just buy a proper piece of land yourself with no zoning regulations against what youre trying to do/accomplish and get all the permits that are needed, and just have your community form and flourish? If i could get some insight thatd be great, thanks
+tulsatime711 It is difficult in Australia to create an ecovillage as most local councils who control local planning laws are conservative. Also, inflation in Australia in the 1990s and 2000s made land prices unaffordable for many with more community-minded living aspirations. Some are trying work-arounds involving tiny homes on wheels which technically do not need planning permission, but someone still has to buy the land and desire to participate. In 2015, a new Crystal Waters style rural subdivision in my region would most likely not get planning permission.

Hi, they have no cats and dogs because they prey on the wild animals. many small critters there. Wild cats are trapped, and the native animals keep the feral rats under control...

We've already planted thousands of high-quality fruit trees in our Eco-village, we have lots of water and good neighbors. We used our IRA "Self-Directed" to purchase with no tax penalty.

There are some vegans and vegetarians living there, but the majority of people in our world eat meat and it would be very difficult to change inter-generational practices in this fairly open community with no real control over who buys in or lives there.

Jesus is here "living in our hearts - "now" so lets honor Him and His creation by creating more of these types of communities - in order to make better use of the Earth - more in line with our Creator's original intended use - not as a place to make money but a naturally beautiful place to tend to and nurture it's natural 'self regenerating systems" - which God - provided for us to use - simply - as provisions - in the form (of for the most part "naturally occurring food") and shelter (natural building materials) with which to sustain ourselves; while enjoying interacting with others and the beauty of our (carefully tended) environment and communities.
I have devised a method which can quickly develop many of these communities. But I will need some volunteer help. ((not money help))
