My grandfather often carried me on his shoulders over the Inches of Perth as my father often told me. That was about 60 years ago, the pipes made me think about it.
What a great celebration. As an Englishman, there is nothing quite like the sound of a Scottish pipe band! You don't just hear the music, you feel it! Thankyou for a wonderful listening experience!
As an American, I agree completely!! Thank you, mop man, for putting it out there. There are many cities here in the states that could take lessons from THIS parade. There is no wrong or right way to organize a parade. So long as people have fun that is all that matters.
I have always had a deep love for the British Isles including Scotland and Ireland. The music of the bagpipes is one reason and the amazing people and their open friendliness is another. God bless the Scottish and Irish, and British people.
Oh my Scotland ! i love your people , your beautiful landscapes , your music is in my heart forever . French kiss , Lyra , Jeny , Aynoha , Emma and Kim
This was the second song I learned on the pipes as a kid. (Sadly school and homework made me quit) but that first song played.. it brings back some of the better memories of my youth
oh gawd im learning this at school this Sunday I'm going to an another practice:,) and I'm on the chanter still.... but soon I will be getting bagpipes so exited
I'm Latin and yet I'm about to learn to play the pipes. My group will have to wear full gear and kilts as we perform at events and parades as they have for years. Does this mean I have an identity crisis? Nope... just major love and respect for other cultures.
Love the music. Not so keen on the british version of the herrenvolk. Pity, really, it had so much going for it. EDIT Nah, it was beautiful. Nice people having a good time, fine by me,and terrific bands. Cheers.
Fantastic.stuff. I'm not a Scot but contrary to what seems to be a sadly increasing and much distorted portrayal of normal English people's view of Scotland, and yes we may have our differences, our banter and good natured rivalry, but make no mistake, we would always be there for you and long may you continue to be a valued and proud member of what, in my opinion, is a great Union of Countries. 👍❤🇬🇧
Joseph Landrut As a Scot, you are very welcome...........( dont believe the crap they tell you, in the paper's........ we all moan and groan, and we may well break away one day, but there is no malice.) I hope you wear the kilt some day.
Try the Hunter Mountain Grand March at end of Celtic Festival. That is truly a thousand piper march. Still this a parade of note tho.Great video and the child says " let's go home now mommy",
This was GREAT! please don't judge all Americans by a few idiots or the American media who don't know what to appreciate & try to force crap on us all .
Anyone else notice the background conversation at 3:10 "Nancy couldn't see" then a couple seconds later, " aye Bill said".. Apparently we don't live in Perth anymore, nope, we live in Oliver twist.. :L
I always feel dissapointed when i see kids and women marching. Not that i think they can't join , or i hate them but when i hear this music its so powerfull and makes me think of great warriors ready for battle and then when i see women and children the magic is gone.
Did it ever occur to the ignorant that there needs to be a little spacing and pace between pipe bands so as not to create a cacophony? As a proud American of Scots heritage, I would have loved to have been there! Scots together everywhere!
The pipes need to be with drums, big-belly drums, that you can feel in your throat. Otherwise, it's just so much buzz that all sounds alike. If you have ever heard and felt it, you know it.
it depends what they are ranked etc and also can be due to some being like royal guards if they are to do with royalty they normally wear the bear skin hats and if they are army regiment the leaders were them only :) so if the royal scots played they would have the hats

Nothing better to bring a tear to the eye,or to make a Scotsman's pride soar than a good pipe band.
I really want to watch this live, amazing performance, cheers!

Ireland has nothing to do with marching pipes. I believe that's only in America.
No Greg it's not only in America its Uk also
Greg Whyte And in Germany, India, Japan, Austria etc, etc.. etc...
if I ever join the army I think there would be something so cool about marching around in a kilt and marching to a bagpipes and drums band
it is on my bucket list to see something like this live....one day...i hope.
Was für eine Veranstaltung.Man möchte an liebsten mit dabei sein.Einfach SUPER.
I'm from America, and this is absolutely beautiful! I would march to this any day!
Spend 5 years in the Black Watch before I become a American soldier.

They are tenor drums.
Can someone please tell me the name of the tune played by the 2nd band @ 1:40 and again at 16:20? Thanks
its Perth and District pipe band!
*****
It's indeed as you said. It's a transcription from "La Tua Danza Sì Leggiera" (William Tell, 3rd act. Rossini).
The tune is 'green hills of Tyrol' it had words written for it and this was recorded by Andy Stewart as 'Scottish soldier'
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Scottish_Soldier
Green Hills of Tyrol and The Battles Over

Why do some wear the bear hats and others don't?
it depends what they are ranked etc and also can be due to some being like royal guards if they are to do with royalty they normally wear the bear skin hats and if they are army regiment the leaders were them only :) so if the royal scots played they would have the hats
The people who think all pipe music sounds the same also probably believe that all classical music sounds the same.
Two names for the same drum
