Miranda July is a prolific performance and video artist. She stepped into the mainstream limelight when her 2005 film Me and You and Everyone We Know became an international hit. But instead of rushing into another feature film project, Miranda has been "in a hurry to do everything else". Like making exhibitions featuring the delicate and personal do-it-yourself art from the ever-expanding Learning To Love You More web project. We met Miranda at MU, an art space in Eindhoven, a few hours before the opening of the exhibition. Miranda July is the first in a new series of Pretty Cool People Interviews. Coming up next: Mike Mills, Lou Ye, Erwin Wurm, Olivier Marquézy and Lou Reed, to name but a few...
Art out of what is ordinary and what people generally ignore is the best kind of art.
This is the real Miranda July that comes across better than through interviews. I think this celebrates the connection we miss with this damn Covid -19.
what's really fantastic about this woman is that she changes from pic to pic, from clip to clip - she's always a different looking person. sometimes intelligent, sometimes funny, sometimes like a child and sometimes sexy in an innocent way.
shes fantastic
i love her.
I love this. I love Miranda July's movie, her book and these assignments are delightful. But why does the description say she "was" a performance artist. . . she's still well, right? still with us? Yes!
brilliant!!
I admire her
Miranda July is truly amazing.
I never tire of watching her movie, You and Me....
Same here, I don't know how many times I've watched it.
I bought the soundtrack and listen to it sometimes too
I love Miranda July's work. It's an invitation to see 'art' in everything, or if people object to the use of the word 'art' in this manner, to notice our connections with the worlds around us - connectionss that aren't necessarily noticed and likely aren't appreciated as being meaningful. Her work invites us to consider the value in our own stories instead of believing that art is something that 'others' do, something to which we are only an audience instead of a participant.
i know it's like they emit light or sumt, i kept drooling over "Me and You and Everyone We Know" i thought that was in a way camera work, but looking at this interview i must say GOSH aswell, her only opponent in this world is zooey deschanel
I think she's wonderful.
Miranda is the bomb!
my god those eyes of her...
she makes me so happy.
I love assignments.
I love happy artists, make me feel less sad and naive.
You are so right. Changed the description... thanks for pointing that our.
I love her, she's so different in a beautiful way
Oh man, I love that phone where one can hear someone's argument, lol, it seems like it would almost have that feel one gets when you pick up the phone in an home where someone's already on the phone.
my comment is pretty pointless, but she looks like Cate Blanchett as Bob Dylan in I'm Not There :]
"Strangers holding hands" was brilliant.
there seems to be a lot of hate and cynicism going on here on TH-cam. So what have you been doing lately to make the world a more interesting place?
She reminds me of my late friend Karen.
wow i really like this chick. like for real i was looking at other stuff on the tube and froe really stumbled on this... i am an instafan!
Wonderful! I was a little bit scared for a second. . . thank you.
miranda is beautiful she has such a shoothing voice
'me you and every one we no' was amazing to.
looking foward to the next movie.
@zoetropez OK, I'll give you a legitimate reply. I just have a hard time taking anyone who says "STFU" and "FAIL" seriously.
So Miranda July has connections to the art world. That's fairly common. She has done work that a lot of people love and a lot of people don't-- just as any artist. Have you read any of her work or are you just blindly criticizing her?
I don't understand why people are making such rude comments about this. There is so much garbage on TH-cam and in the media...why not criticize something actually worth criticizing?
pretty pretty!
@zoetropez You don't HAVE to. I wouldn't mind though. I'll be honest-- I know very little about who Miranda July actually is. I saw Me and You and Everyone We Know a few years ago and thought it was bizarre and interesting. Then last week I picked a book up from the library and when I realized who it was by, I was surprised. I'm an English graduate student and rarely find writing styles that I really, really love. Hers I love.
i wish miranda july was my mom .
Don't be such a berk. I am NOT posting this anywhere, and neither will the majority of other viewers. You have posted a pretty pointless comment, and now, so have I...DAMN!
Oh well - peace and goodwill from a chilly English garden. x
@zoetropez Expostulation? Is that a word they teach at, like, public schools or something?
Theres a depth to her artistic statements which require thought. Some people don't want to think too much - that's sad
Whats the song at the begining?
Sometimes? Oh man that soundtrack is amazing. Once a day, do yourself a favor!
Yes, to be precise: Blonde Redhead, album: In an expression of the inexpressible, nummer: Luv machine.
@appollomsays real trolls don´t ever speak about themselves or what they do, but what other people are or do
Mary Margaret O'Hara of Filmmakers.
@SubmarineChannel wow.... wise comment... refreshing =)
poor "ruanda" - Miranda's fuckin up ruanda's life... thats just horrible whats she's doing
Excuse me while I die and go to heaven.
beautifull eyes:\
Jealous?
cheekbones.
freedom of speech!
I really don't think this is pretentious. Certainly as far as art goes. I mean it seems like that's her thing is being quirky without being pretentious.
Q. Why did the performance artist cross the road?
A. Don't know, didn't stick around to find out!
it's so boring. but it turns around and shows random awesome funny things and keeps you coming back for more
@zoetropez FAIL!
lol fuckin a
@zoetropez -mocks- FAIL!
artsy fartsy blah blah I'm so special, I'm so cute, love me, I'm cultivated and have so much going on in my head to discover, there is like so much emotion inside of me blah blah. rich and spoiled. she may be more playful than Paris Hilton, but that is about it.
well, i just think that her pseudo-intellectual ideas about art, make us passionate artists look bad...
she talks too much
