Awesome! You are the only one on internet who explained the fix from the key knob rather than pin knob (other side of door). I had accidentally opened the key knob and was struggling since 2 days to put it back.. went to 2 locksmith who said I need to buy a new lock.. but here we are.. I’ve fixed it thanks to your video.. thanks

Hey Terry, my name in Nicholas Grabowski im a 2nd generation Locksmith in Fort Wayne, Indiana....i think you are probably the best channel on TH-cam for Locksmiths. That being said it would be great to have any training on here for KABA or ASSA. Anything high security or even videos on vehicles without pulling key codes (such as lishis or accu readers) but its understandable if you save that for classes or even videos to release. By the way your picking videos on commercial/residential tremendously helped me so i thank you for that alone much less this channel

Thank you sir - locksmith appreciated that I brought the cylinders rather than the whole units for him to disassemble to re-key - all credits to you!

I started doing this in the mid 90s when the retaining clip poked out the side of the knob, so was visible. Was much easier to do then. Took a bit of work/practice to get the hang of newer knobs.

removing a kwikset knob cylinder from the lock with out removing it from the door. take an old key you have laying around and file or cut off the inside straight pieces from the bow you now have a hole you can put a hefty screw driver into. then file 2 cuts of the biting straight so you make what is called a lock out key. then insert it into the key way. now the key is jammed into the lock and will not slide back out. now inserting the screw driver and grabbing both ends, you should be able with a good pull remove the cylinder as it is held in place by 2 spring clips. then rekey and reinsert back into the lock.

Hello and thank you for the video. Do you have any instructions on how to remove the key barrel without the key? I've removed the whole lock from the door, I just can't seem to work out how to remove the keyed knob without the key.
    Thanks, Josh

I'm having an issue where the key is turning past where it would normally stop to unlock the door, this is causing issues when I go to remove the key from the door it is locking the latch again on the inside. Any ideas what this could be?

Sounds like a design problem on the off-shore locks.
I usually just replace them with a good quality lock.

Can you describe the requirements of the tool you used to depress the retainer, so that a do-it-yourselfer can construct the tool cheaply (or find something around the house that will work)? Would a small screwdriver or a nail work okay? (I've been having trouble lately removing my key from the knob, so I'm guessing I need to replace the cylinder and key.)

I used a small nail on my knob without issue

Any pointy awl will work, not too much pressure or force to remover.

As Terry said, pick it, or do a complete disassembly. I've seen the instructions for doing the disassembly, it's not a simple task.
