I don’t drive so i heavily rely on public transportation. I do use Uber but it’s kind of a last resort if the bus is unable to get me where I need to be. I’m also thinking of getting an electric scooter for short distance traveling around my neighborhood as another alternative. I like that Uber also has share riding to reduce the cost.

I'm getting a new job with a luxury apartment complex and store right down the street, it seems that uber will work best for me.

If you buy your car and trade in after 3 years, add in all the insurance, premiums, taxes, license and tag, maintenance and repairs, cleaning, no, it is cheaper to Uber. Don't get me started on the money pit of used cars.
But Uber also maintains a convenience cost. What are you willing to pay for someone else to do the following?:
    • Keep your insurance up-to-date.
    • File insurance claims.
    • Keeping your car ownership papers up-to-date.
    • Filing your tag.
    • Maintain your fluids.
    • Get check-ups.
    • Put aside money for repairs.
    • cleaning your car regularly.
    • All the phone time and in person visits dealing with all these things.
A car is a child that you don't have the joy of seeing laugh or growing-up, just growing old.
Besides this, when you have a car, you want to use a car. It becomes an excuse not to get in exercise and to do much more with that car than you would do without it, adding to the world’s pollution problems. Then you consider that your ancestors' lives were complicated enough without having to deal with a car.
So when you factor in all this, Uber has a far greater value than owning your own car if you are single with no significant commute.
Imagine you never had any responsibilities but going to work every day. How much would you pay to have all your responsibilities taken off your hands for the rest of your life? Now scale that down to transportation.

Hmm I don’t even drive and was never really motivated to do so. I’ve been able to save a lot of money by not owning a car. Uber is usually my last resort when I absolutely need it because it’s more expensive than catching the bus which I use to commute to the office for work and back. I’m thinking of buying an electric scooter for short distance traveling around my neighborhood and only use the bus for longer distance if the bus routes are convenient. I have used Uber and I think it would be more beneficial for times where the bus routes are out of way or if there is too much stuff to carry and may need the back seat to use as space to load my things.

I’m curious how much extra time is wasted using an uber. Between them likely obeying the speed limit or slower, waiting for them, their lack of ability to know back ways when there’s a traffic jam. And how much MORE time is wasted using Uber to train to work and back, since there’s this horrible push for mass transit.
Bonus to car ownership: on demand transportation.

How do you get car insurance for 40 per month

      Here are some tips:
      1. Don't get into accidents
      2. don't get any moving violations (speeding tickets, etc),
      3. don't live in a dense city (rural and suburban areas have far cheaper insurance premiums)
      4. if possible ask for a discount if you pay your premium in a lump sum (could save 10%)
      5. shop around and get quotes because there may be cheaper premiums out there that you may not know about
      6. keep the car for as long as you can since insurance often drops every year when the car is worth less.
      7. If you're a good driver, you may want to consider having a deductible (typically $500 or $1000).
I do all of these and I drive a 2016 Ford Mustang. My insurance is $600 for the whole year. Hope that helps.
