How to Install a Catch Can Simplified

  • Today I am going to show you how to install a catch can on a BMW E36. The Process is similar on just about any vehicle using the same general principals.
    In this install will delete the CCV (Crankcase Ventilation System) and replace it with a Catch Can. The Catch Can eliminates the problems associated with the Stock CCV that tends to get clogged up and send dirty oily air into the intake. Sometimes it can cause the engine to run rough and stumble. This upgrade will eliminate those issues and hopefully increase the life of our engine.

    Razor blade (for cutting a small piece of plastic)
    Screw drivers / sockets for hose clamps

    Catch Can: amzn.to/2FAM5Mn
    Expansion Plug: amzn.to/2Xc8w5y
    JB Plastic Weld Epoxy: amzn.to/2XaRYut
    O-rings for fittings: amzn.to/2YfdJG1
    Vacuum plugs for Dipstick tube: amzn.to/2Yhzyoo
    Metal flat stock for making a mounting bracket
    * The hoses needed for the catch can need to be able to withstand vacuum and heat. I used a combination of heater and fuel hoses. Most parts stores will carry hose for pretty cheap and by the foot.
    * I would suggest bringing the fitting for the valve cover and the fittings from the catch can to make sure the inside diameter is correct. I had to exchange my hoses several times because of this.
    IN from Valve Cover to Catch Can
    7/8 Heater hose
    5/8 Heater hose
    Reducer 7/8 to 5/8
    OUT from Catch Can to Intake
    5/16 hose
    5/16 Vacuum Tee fitting

    Literally the best catch can install and CCV delete video I've seen so far.

    To my understanding you should direct the catch can OUT between MAF and throttle body, just like on M50. Then you will not have oil consumption when idling. Alternatively you can direct catch can OUT through aftermarket Purolator PV1050 or alternative PCV into your intake manifold.

    lock tight the threads on the plug, no leaks.

    Did anybody not do what he did with the plug can I just tighten it in I throw a o right gasket on the bolt before I expand it

    Could I just rout the out to the port that you plugged in on manifold where the oil separator connects to the intake instead of T it in

    ok when car is idling then the vacum in the intake is the highest. PCV adresses this issue by closing the membrane. Here with the catch can when car is idling it will just eat too much of your oil fumes. how is this problem addressed?

    I had to use a PCV valve on my Oil Catch Can setup, I had too much vacuum that was causing my engine to run rough.

      same here, threw in a PCV and no issues after and the catch can actually collects crap instead of injecting it back into the motor

      I might have to look into that, so far it seems to be working good. We will see though!

    Ok so for the vacuum lines what am I supposed to do the Evap I tap into it’s runs to the evap sensor the big port on the intake and then T into the catch can what do I do with 2 smaller ports and as the CCV and the EVap no take both positions in vacuum and the oil return to dipstick is capped just watched the video again the FPR valve goes to the line on the dipstick? But what about the check valve where do I rout that

    • @ThugzBunnyYT
      @ThugzBunnyYT 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      An what about the big hose on the take where the Evap sensor originally was I just leave it there with that u shaped hose open like this is the closest thing I’ve found to a good install video and it’s still leaving out information

    I've just finished this set up and am getting a whistling noise
    The noise goes away when I lift off the oil fill cap, it seems like there's quite a strong vacuum in the crankcase, takes alot of effort to remove the oil fill cap
    Any ideas on why it's whistling?

    If I reconnect it to the intake system wouldn’t it blow oil into the intake under boost

    • @johnmizell1842
      @johnmizell1842 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes it will, put a check valve inline so that boost pressure does not reverse the air flow and pressurize the out port on the catch can. Pay attention to the arrow on the check valve to direct the airflow from catch can to intake.
