    Hi Joe, What volume does the syringe hold? I assume having to reload would be a bad idea ☺Thanks!

    • @OldForgeCreations
      @OldForgeCreations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would be! Some of my designs involve multiple syringes, but leaving it for too long will allow the clay wall to soften too much, so stopping and refilling would be a bad option compared to having several ready. I find that my mugs need 25-45ml of slip, so I generally use a 50ml syringe.

    I’ve become very interested in pottery and would love to give it a try, I have a question: can the slip mix be used in a cast mold instead of using the wheel to form the item?

    • @ScottHess
      @ScottHess 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could make the base mug using slip-casting, and then paint the slip onto it. If your mold includes the handle, then obviously you'll have some trouble painting the slip on! But if the handle is cast separate from the body and attached later, you should be fine.
      You might have to experiment with the right moisture level to put the slip on the piece. If the body is too dry when you apply the slip, the slip might flake off as it dries.

    So do you fire the mugs first and the glaze and fire a second time?

    • @OldForgeCreations
      @OldForgeCreations  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. The first is a lower temperature firing to essentially fix the clay as it is, before that point it could be turned back into soft clay by just adding water.
