love shawls. My preference is massive triangular shawls. Have worn/used them for many years, when they came in and out of "fashion". Early on they were tied and helped carry my babies and gather eggs,, laid on the ground for babies to play on while I was weeding, milking goats. Now they keep me cozy and the grand babies like to snuggle in. Earthy palette is my favorite. Hugs to all.
You are so adorable you always make me giggle I love your podcast so much thank you thank you thank you Katt, sending love to all of you the kitty the hubby and the most amazing knitting/spinning girl ever thank you❤️
I'm a major fan of any knits you design. If/when you release your wedding shawl pattern, I would purchase that in a heartbeat!! I'm currently working on my own Spring Intentions Wrap and it's been a wonderful experience
i love to start back knitting and learning how to you thread so that i can learn how to sew again. i have took crochet before but i havent stayed in the class.
So nice to sit and knit on my Sherbet Fizz shawl by Ambah O’Brien as you chatted shawls 😊 It’s the ‘fanciest’ I’ve ever done, and I’m messing up a fair bit because: brain wandering, but it is sooo pretty! I love a big cozy shawl, my favourite is a huge simple triangle shawl I made with natural coloured, local, handspun alpaca yarn & local wool yarns, one from my dear friend’s Zwartbles sheep. Some of the lighter coloured wools I dyed with oak leaves from ‘my’ special Grandmother Oak up the hill behind our cottage. I started the process on Winter Solstice, and with all those elements it just feels extra magical & cozy. Hope your car woes get righted and things all go well for you! 🧚♂️ ✨
Thank you ever so much kind one, I am so glad you are making a joyful project. I have to say your favourite shawl sounds SO special, I would love to do something along those lines certainly, I am just picking up the drop spindle again and I have to say I am really loving the process this time around, I can see myself dreaming of a wheel. Going through the process from start to finish seems...so right to me. Sending good energy your way 💚💚
Hi Kat! I’m so glad that on this day you managed to find that time to sit and slow down a bit. Gosh, I do know what that’s like to have a particular type of day in mind and then have it turned on its head in a heartbeat. Ugh. Those are the most frustrating days sometimes. But regardless, this was a lovely and calming episode and your shawls are so inspiring. ❤️
Oh thank you ever so much, it can be so frustrating, having a giggle and not having expectations are my greatest ways of enjoying trying to negate those day but sometimes, they just bite you in the bottom and you have to go with it...then treat yourself to something fun when you can 😅💚 So lovely to have you here Tayler
I felt that triple intro in my soul. 😅 Today has been one of those days for me as well. I am watching this while re-knitting my Humlebi shawl which I completed about 80% of and then found it was too small (I resized down from the original because I am short and I just sized down too much!) and I really understand the frustration of starting over (and over) again 😂. Your shawl designs are really stunning, Katt. Especially your wedding shawl. I love how you have incorporated meaningful elements from your life to make a gorgeous finished object. As to your question, I tend to knit smaller shawls because of the weather here. Also I’m short, so larger shawls tend to drag if I don’t absolutely bundle myself up in them. Also, large shawls cost $$$ 😉 Hope you have a lovely week with no more car woes!
😂 I am so sorry you had a bit of a time! Your finally finished version of the Humlebi came out SO gorgeous so was worth the...adventure 🙈 Thank you for sharing your thoughts too - price on those HUGE shawls can get a bit intense, it's a big reason I spent so much time pondering for my wedding shawl you know, I just didn't want it to cost and I wanted it to be a heirloom item that'll last! 💚
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful shawls! I have been wanting to make one and haven’t been able to choose the right pattern for me. You have inspired me! ❤️
Thank you ever so much, it's a gorgeous pattern! I love how it came out and do think, it looks lovely if I'm wearing a neutral palette but I'm still on the fence!
I think your melted mirage would make a gorgeous swaddling fabric for a newborn. I'm sure someone would love it and the bits of wear on it would help convince them that don't have to worry about a bit of sick!
Thanks for the lovely video, and I just completed my first shawl, and it's a great transition piece. I want to make one for the office and my backpack at least. I actually prefer the shawls vs the shawlettes since I would rather knit and wear a cowl.
I love the lighter and brighter colors but I think its great that you did a mood board to really narrow down and help you make things you will really want to wear/use. I love the idea of shawls but I don't end up using them as much as I intend. I really want to do a huge one that would essentially function as a blanket for sitting on the sofa and watching tv or sitting around a campfire. I think for that I would prefer an old fashioned triangle shawl. I have made some more lacy, lightweight, decorative type shawls that I wear occasionally to work but I don't end up wearing them as often as I think I will. I used to make and wear a ton of cowls but I find the big squashy ones that were really popular when I started doing cowls really overwhelm me. I would love to do some retrospective episodes of my podcast similar to what you have done here and gather up everything I can from a particular category. I know I wouldn't be able to find absolutely everything from any given category because after 20 years of knitting and much of it predating Ravelry and other places to catalog your knits online, there are many things I just don't even have photos of. But it would still be a lot of fun to find what I can. :-). Oh, and totally enabled by all of your mentions of the Elfmail sweater, I announced a fall Elfmail KAL on my channel today. I just wanted to let you know that even though its been in my queue forever, it was really your talking about it that pushed me over the edge. OK, sorry for the novel, lovely episode!!
I really think that having it and updating it will really help, I have to admit I'm a bit of a chameleon with my appearance but I think it really has helped me to be much more intentional with what I create. It would be quite amazing to see a retrospective of 20 years of knitting! Please do (though that will take quite some time and editing I'm sure!) Congratulations on the Elfmail KAL! I'll try and share over on instagram 🧶💚🙌
Loved this exploration of shawls. I'm coming to the end of a Painting Waves by Stephen West and most annoyingly only yesterday came across his tutorial for weaving ends as you go which is so simple and so obvious and may save other knitters some time so wanted to share.
Thank you for sharing your shawls. I was one who didn’t really see the point of knitting a shawl, but as I have fallen more in love with yarn I have knit a few just to spend some time with lovely fiber 😊. I always enjoy your podcast
I was similar I think, they didn't seem useful but the more I learn the more I realise what are and what aren't for me! I do love a good excuse to spend time with gorgeous fibres hehe. 💚
Sounds like you love grunge colours, which I really love too! Just a darker twist on standard colours. I adore your videos. Always brings me so much peace especially since I’m close to finishing my PhD and the thesis writing has been so hard 😭
Ohhh maybe you are totally right and I hadn't put that kind of thing together. I am so glad to bring you a little bit of calm during an intense time! Good luck with finishing your PhD! 💚
Talking about shawls... The other day a random stranger on the train gave me a lovely compliment on the Thistle Path / Find the Thistle? I was working on. Thought I'd pass it on ;)
Thank you for spending my thursday evening with me! I just cast on a berry coloured alpaca silk shawl, it's a triangular shawl which I like best (when they are slightly shallower). I don't enjoy crescent shawls, I find it more tricky to wear them under coats. Sending hugs to you, as well as health, sunshine and maybe car luck...
I love your wedding shawl. Hope to get that when you release the pattern. Have an autoimmune and it's sometimes very hard to feel well. I hope you continue to find a way to work with it. Hugs, Kimberly
I watched this while knitting on my Shetland Swash Shawl. I'm using the Gomitolo Aloha cotton-viscose yarn which is a gradient yarn and am just loving seeing the colours develop. Thanks for such calming, gentle videos. ❤️
Loved this one❣️lots of inspiration... Thank you❣️I am completely hooked on shawl/wrap knitting right now. At the monet in light cotton yarns, needle 3,5
HI Kat Very lovely podcast. Great to hear the tales of woe as well as all the successes. I liked the "wedding" shawl the most as well as hearing about the "free" ones. Hey Lynna, thank you ever so much! It is the wedding shawl that it is in testing 😊 Thank you ever so much for being here and I'll reply to your email a little later today 😊💚
I do hope you release your wedding shawl pattern. It is absolutely gorgeous. I have been knitting different size, shape and weight of shawls this past year. Having fun trying them all but do think some will be gifted.
Thank you so much, it shouldn't be too long, I do want to be able to share it, I know it'll make me very anxious but, seeing even one more knitted will be SO fun and special 🙏😊 It's so interesting that sometimes it's ones you don't anticipate are the most practical!
Shawls and cardigans are what I've been calling my "3rd piece" because I also dress like a toddler in the sense that I just want to be comfortable and don't want to put too much effort into it (but I still want to look like a grown up, ha!) So I really just I have a handful of tops and bottoms in hues of brown, black, grey, blue and white, and then I throw on a shawl and/or a cardigan and call that a grown up look. But I find that more and more of what I want to knit are these two kinds of items... 3rd piece items. Also, life is better when you walk around all day wrapped up in a huge wool hug. I felt as though we could really see your major progression as a knitter through the timeline of your shawls in this video, which was really interesting for me because I've been knitting for almost the same amount of time- nearly 3 years- and I have made some similar discoveries about myself in terms of what kinds of yarns speak to me. I too find that I prefer more "rustic" yarns and natural colors. Thanks for pushing through all the resistance on the day you recorded this Katt, so that we wouldn't have to miss out!
That's such a great way to look at it and I love that you took the time to share your thoughts and journey, thank you! I agree with how magic it is when you are wrapped in a huge wool hug! 💚
Hello from Mounds Illinois. Your shawls are awesome. I love knitting shawls especially lace they are so beautiful when you finish and block them. My first shawl was the Ashton by Dee O'keefe it's a free pattern on Raverly.
I would love to do a lace shawl, I started one but it was in all black mohair and whilst it was fun, seemed a little unsuited to my lifestyle at the time 🙈 Oh the Ashton is lovely, thank you for sharing 😊
Beautiful shawls!!! I haven't knitted a shawls yet. I'm a beginner knitter and have knitted 3 sweaters and a cardigan and a hat this year so a shawl is my next project (and socks). I do like the smaller one and I just might make it with a batch of new yarn from Lanivendole that I'll be purchasing on my trip to Italy next month. Quick question, would you mind telling me the pattern you used to make that gorgeous sweater you're wearing?
Oh thank you ever so much! That's so great, sounds like you have had a very productive year! The cardigan is improvised I'm afraid! I did try and look for my notes a while back but haven't had success, if they show up I'll do my best to share over here 🙈
Hello, just wondering if you knitted the cardigan in the video? And if you could share the knit pattern for that if you did...and what time of wool you used?? It fits very beautifully- looks perfect
Hey - I've pinned a comment that explains, it was a pattern that I improvised using my own hand dyed DK Peruvian wool and a strand of mohair, it's still a solid favourite
I love the idea of making a shawl but I never use them. They are beautiful and there are so many shawl patterns out there. I stick with tops and socks because I actually will wear them.
I think this was good for me to reflect, I think it's important for us all to reflect from time to time to figure out what we love and sounds like you have 💚
I know I'm unlikely to wear a big shawl, but I found a pattern (Encore shawl) that starts with the largest number of stitches and decreases from there, finishes as a shawlette, love it and wear it
Hello Heather, thank you for sharing your projects with us. Could you please tell me the name of the cardigan you are wearing in black? Is that brioche or a fisherman rib? Thank you for your podcast.
Hello there Katt, Love all your shawls. Especially the Spring Intentions because I participated in the lovely knit along. Can you remind me again what the name of the green beanie you are wearing in the shot from the spring intentions shawl? I have a person in mind for that one for Christmas. Thank you so much and enjoy your day.
Hey Deborah, thank you so much for your kindness and being part of the KAL! That green hat was also an improvised hat it was knitted using Whistlebare's Yeavering Bell in Broad Sword, such a gorgeous colour!
@@76livika that's so fun! It feels like a big county but I haven't yet explored many of our yarn shops! (The Knitting Lounge was my closest but sadly closed just a few months after I started knitting!)
What pattern is your lovely brioche cardigan? Maybe I missed it but it is gorgeous.
Thank you ever so much! It was improvised, I have in the past looked for my notes but I haven't been able to find them 💚
@@kattweaver Impressive! If you ever find them you should publish/sell it. Do you remember the yarn?
@@chloejohnson8320 It was my own hand dyed too! I'm ever so sorry!

Oh my goodness you’re releasing your wedding shawl oh it’s so beautiful thank you Katt can’t wait
Stunning shawls! 🤩🤩🤩

I have been knitting for over 50 years but have never knitted a shawl but it is on my bucket list 💕🧶
By 4 minutes in my two year old keeps telling "but where is her cat?! WHERE IS HER CAT?!"
She's just here for Audrey.
Awww! I hope I can get a little more Audrey in shot next week, she was a bit sassy in this weeks recording 🙈

I'm sure you've mentioned this before, but would you mind telling me what you used to make your wardrobe mood board? I need to do that myself!
I made it just in pages, the mac equivalent of word 🙈 nothing fancy!
@@kattweaver Oh wow haha, very simple!
Hello from Herts Uk !
Oh wowee! You're here too, Hii!
@@kattweaverCame across your video by chance.Had no idea you lived in the county :-)
@@76livika that's so fun! It feels like a big county but I haven't yet explored many of our yarn shops! (The Knitting Lounge was my closest but sadly closed just a few months after I started knitting!)
You're making me want to cast on a shawl
🙌 If you'll love it and enjoy the process.... cast on for sure! 💚
