    That is way easier than trying to clean out the mesh when they fill that with Propolis!

    At what temperature outside will the bees start taking syrup? My bees in this cool spring don't seem to take any syrup until it gets above 50 F? Is this common for you also?

      My experience is that in spring the bees are reluctant to store the syrup except directly around the brood if the hive is short of feed. However they will draw on it steadily. In the fall the bees will take the syrup out of the pail and store it throughout the hive and can take in a gallon in a day.

      My advice is to not bother with the wire, just poke some holes in the pail.
