    I have been working as a GL accountant for J&J for the past 6 months. Do you think I should consider moving into a different role to see new things when I hit the 1 year mark or do you think becoming a senior GL accountant could be better for the future?

    Does working with the government segment of audit pidgeonhole you into a career with government, or will that translate to a career in industry?

    A question I have:
    Is the CMA enough to get a job in industry if my degree is not from America?
    I was nominated for the IMA's scholarship program during my 4th year of University

    what is your advice for someone who worked in industry (as an accountant and financial analyst) for 5 years and wants to move to public accounting at age 28? I'd appreciate tips on how to apply and stand out, tackle the interview..etc.

    For the first question, what if my end goal isn’t to become a controller? I’m a few months into my tax associate position at a big4 and am heavily considering leaving at the 1 year mark for a “boring” industry position bc I just want a job where I can log off at 5 and not think/stress about it constantly.

      Same question here tbh if you don't mind are you still at a big 4 ?

    Hello! I was wondering the advantage if after the cpa license we do a master in accounting? Would that add not much value or it would give advantages in terms of getting hired etc. I was wondering if it was worth it or not. 😊 thanks for the video! Very informative!

      You can get accounts payable or accounts receivable. I’m in AP and I have a bachelor’s degree. However, I was lacking experience. You have to start somewhere, and sometimes you have to start at the bottom.

    I am a little lost with my job in FDD big 4 as it’s very niche. I sometimes feel that audit can give a broader background. What do you think about people leaving FDD entering as a controller, FP&A etc.? Am I selling myself short as compared to an auditor

    • @TheFinancialController
      @TheFinancialController  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Financial Due Diligence is amazing if you take the FP&A CFO route. Audit is the way to go for controller route.

    At 2:16, you mention that auditing teaches you financial statement analysis. Auditors perform substantive testing of accounts (e.g. reconciling account balances) and perform tests of internal controls. It's misleading to suggest that is financial statement analysis.

    • @TheFinancialController
      @TheFinancialController  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brad, auditors perform flux analysis and and inquire regarding changes. These inquires forces them to understand the operations.

    • @bradz.7164
      @bradz.7164 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Comparing changes in account balances and inquiring about changes doesn't really meet the commonly accepted definition of financial statement analysis. I think you are correct to say that auditing would give you experience tailoring an audit program, but I think you would have trouble finding former auditors who believed they got any meaningful experience developing their financial statement analysis skills as an auditor.

    • @TheFinancialController
      @TheFinancialController  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough, agree that financial analysis is not core to the job

    Can a felon become an accountant?

    • @Zone7garden
      @Zone7garden 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can take the classes but people with felonies can not receive fasfa in my state. then even if you pay for your classes in full or take out loans, a board will have to look over all charges. If a board approves you to receive the degree you earned/paid for, you then have to find a employer that will take a chance on you.
      My tip is if your felony is in theft and over 10 years old, go for nursing. If your felony charges a for drug related charges do not go for nursing. I had a cousin go through this with a nursing degree.
      I hope it works out for you!
