- A step-by-step guide on how we built a bed frame above the cab of our Luton van. Our Luton box above the cab is made out of fibreglass, so therefore isn't strong enough on its own. Therefore, we designed and built a floating cantilever bed frame.
However, our first attempt didn't work out as planned, so we needed a rethink that turned out to be better than expected.
This video is made to help novice and experienced installers by detailing every step, including useful tips along the way.
Each step is detailed on how WE installed an Acrylic window to OUR campervan, be aware that other Luton vans could be slightly different.

Hey Mark, thank you 👍. Sorry for the delay in videos. We've had a few projects going on but we're back on track with the videos now 👍.

Good luck and have fun 🤘
Really appreciate this video! Thank you! I haven't bought my van yet, but I have my heart set on a luton. It was so helpful to see / hear more about the space above the cab. I haven't found anyone else talking about how fragile that space can be. May I ask what the original dimensions are? (As in orignal depth / head space / height of the platform from the ground?
Going to check out your other vids too!
Hey Tempest Midnight,
Thanks for the comment ♥️, glad it's helped. This will also be helpful to others so I'll add it to the comments.
The shape of the Luton fibreglass section is a bit weird (see our Instagram account for pictures). The rough dimensions when the van was empty are:
Depth of the base (front to back) at the centre - 1000mm. The sides curve.
Height at the largest point - 700mm
Height in the centre - 600mm
Height at the very front - 100mm
Width at the widest point - 2070mm
Height of the platform from the floor - 1400mm
Height of the ceiling from the floor - 2100mm
Hope this is helpful to you. We have many more videos to upload and will also show what the finished bed looks like.
Good luck on the Luton 👍
Regards,
Jolly
