    G'day guys, I'm chasing a 2 in 1 for video streaming and occasionally typing documents but it must have WiFi 6 and a long lasting battery. I'm convinced this is the perfect one for me. Over here we get the USI Pen included and the device has 8gb of Ram with 256gb of Storage. If anyone thinks I'm making a mistake please let me know.

      I'm also looking for same similar function to u, main thing is note taking, media consumption and remote gameplay like moonlight or steam link, using ipad pro 11 currently but the remote desktop not much convenient in that, that's y planning on changing either to this this or pixel slate, the only drawback in the Duet 5 is I'm scared with the limitations of ARM snapdragon 7c, moreover its also not good as snapdragon 865 or 870 slightly lower performance that's y I'm still hesitant to buy this and considering pixel slate as it's Intel core m or i5 paired with my pixel 6 also would feel great , so I'm in mixed doubt

    I bought this based on this review upgrading from a Lenovo Duet. I would agree with most of the reviewer's comments except I find the keyboard really hard to use. Despite being pretty much full size, the key travel is too limited for me and I find typing frustrating even when on a table. I am very impressed when the reviewer can type easily when it's on his lap. But overall it's a pretty capable device and I now use this as my main device (versus my Windows desktop) even moving my commonly used Excel spreadsheets to Google Drive now and updating them using the Chrome Office plugin

      I've bought one and i can't stand the keyboard too. I just can't type on that thing without needing for a backspace every 3 words. But hooking a bluetooth keyboard and trackball is easy and fixes everything. Good thing the keyboard is detachable because it's that bad.
      I just bought a 2nd one refurbished for half the sales price. Wich makes it quite an amazing deal for a 13" OLED tablet alone.

    I personally love the duet 5, I got it as an upgrade to the duet 3 because it was the exact things I thought the 3 was weaker on. Specifically the screen was very dim in well lit rooms, amazing processing upgrade & I love the 2x USB-C ports. I was surprised how vivid the colors were on the screen & now I'm practically glued to it when it comes to streaming games. I decided to go into chromebooks because I wanted a lightweight, long battery life, low processing power device for game streaming. I have been pleasantly surprised now that I would rather play some games with advanced graphics on my chromebook now.

    Please do a longer term review. Please.
    I bought the Duet 5 , and a few weeks later also bought a Flex 5i, and although the Flex 5i is more powerful, your stuck with the fan going on and off, watching the battery life go down. The screen on the Flex 5i is also far inferior to that on the Duet 5. Night and day difference at any brightness level. Goes for the speakers, and levels as well. Add that to the far better better battery life on the Duet 5. At the end of testing them head to head, I ended up sending the Flex 5i back. Too much to give up for performance that is hardly ever used in a Chromebook in day to day use. The Duet 5 is in my opinion is the superior device for everyday tasks, such as TH-cam, browsing and light productivity apps. The perfect recliner arm chair device.

    I have the M1 iPad Pro, Samsung Tab S7 FE and the Duet 5 and the Duet is the one I use the most and take with me, when I need a bigger screen on the go. I'm even using it to learn Python, us the full version of vs code by enabling linux. Easily my favorite tablet this year!

    To answer your question about who would use such a device: me. I have a desktop, and a large phone - most of my work stuff is done on a work laptop i get from work (so no choice there, it's strictly for work). For me it comes down three simple things:
    1. i don't need to do any work stuff, just media consumption and general "on the go" stuff.
    2. 10" to me is too small for media consumption. Weight of devices have never bothered me, i'm usually wearing heavy winter coats and my backpack weighs over 5lbs EMPTY.
    3. I also have a very expensive mouse and keyboard I carry around everywhere and use with all my devices anyways.
    So all in all, This is perfect. I dislike convertibles because the keyboards just get in the way.(if i need a keyboard and/or mouse - i have those already - ones I'm used to and been using on all my computing devices for years). I absolutely LOVED my pixel slate, and the pixel C before that. My only hesitance is, chromeOS is starting to get sluggish, I'm on the Flex 5 with 4GB RAM and it's SHIT, youtube lags all the time, i can't have more than 2 or 3 tabs open...

  • @stevenpsherwood
    @stevenpsherwood 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I've just received a Duet 5 from Bestbuy in Canada, and for my fellow Canadians want to highlight that here at least we only seem to get 4gb of RAM. My unit is paired with 128gb of storage. I'm not sure I will keep this as I'm finding the performance to be a bit slow - keyboard response often not 100% fluid, especially the touch keyboard. Not a buttery smooth UX for sure.
    I think the missing 4gb must make a huge difference as I'm just getting started, so I have hardly anything running. This is my first ChromeOS device, so perhaps my expectations are somewhat out of whack, but I do have a lot of Android device experience. One thing that I love so far is the OLED screen - that honestly is what made me want to buy this as I intend to use it mostly on the couch as a secondary device for productivity, and a primary device for content consumption. I''ll give it a couple days more as I have only had it going for an hour or two.
    Any tips on improving performance? Is the fact that I'm asking this after less than 2 hours indication of a problem?
    Thanks!
    PS - it seems that lag in tablet mode is a general issue with Chrome OS devices - didn't know that before. I guess I thought the tablet mode would basically be like Android...

    Thanks for your great spot-on Chromebook reviews, very helpful in making Chromebook purchase decisions, to hear all the plus and the few minus. Good to see that Lenovo has hit more than one winning sweet spot with their Duet line (both the original Duet and the Duet-5) in terms of the tablet-laptop hybrids. I am thinking about this device for my daughter. (Student) She is in the Windows cosmos, (Has a 14 inch Yoga) would like an external monitor, but has very little space. Using the software from Duetdisplay ( the name is confusing but seemingly a coincedence) she can set up the lenovo duet ( the duet display software works with the router) as a monitor unplug it and take it to Uni as a light and portible. Also at the end of the day it can be used as a tablet for media consumption.

    I am enamoured with the 13" screen! My hp x360 is tired and needs to be replaced. I was initially looking for another 2 in 1 to buy, this device intrigues me. I am not a content creator so the fact that you got so much fun time out of the battery doing your thing probably means that I can consume a great deal of content for longer periods of time, without having to plug in every six hours. I think I am going to hop over to Lenovo's store and see what the cost is for just the tablet, back and pen. I have a Bluetooth keyboard I use on my Android device so I won't need the attachable keyboard for this. And if I can use the stylus I bought for the Duet, maybe I can save a few more dollars. I am, after much trial and error, a tablet plus accessories gal. The laptop turned out to be a waste of money for me. Thanks for your review and comments about your likes and dislikes. They have helped me a lot! :)

    Anyone else struggle with text on the Duet 5 being horribly out of focus / fuzzy at all resolutions. I also use a Surface Pro 8, and a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+, and coming from those devices the screen on the Duet 5 hurts my eyes as it seems Chrome OS isn't optimised for this screen size/resolution combo. I returned mine and bought another, but the 2nd one is exactly the same, I think caused by the low resolution panel they used.

    The size and the screen looks perfect but the weakest point for me is the eMMC memory. I really like what Lenovo is doing with the duet, I'm looking forward to seeing one with a faster processor and better memory in the future.

      is the difference between SSD and eMMC memory huge ? I went from a laptop with a regular (as in, normal, average) HDD to a laptop with a regular SSD and it was a game changer). Would a eMMC be a huge downgrade ?

    • @FabianLanfold
      @FabianLanfold 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@LockDogg38
      eMMC is very good at dealing with small-sized files, but if you're dealing with mid to high sized files, it'll fall short to an SSD.
      If you're coming from an HDD to an eMMC, you'll see an improvement, however, if you're coming from and NVMe or an SSD to an eMMC, you will surely notice how it'll run sluggish.
      These devices should be running UFS 2.1-3.1, most high-end mobile devices are running those instead of eMMC.

    Love all of your videos! Also, I’m on week 2 of owning mine and really love it too! One of my best moments already was watching a movie with subtitles on the kitchen table with my wife while our baby was sleeping just a few feet away. Normally, we can’t do this because the big TV lights-up the whole room. So, I give this device a review not often heard before. It was surprisingly romantic!

    Lenovo just listed the Duet 5 (4Gb RAM 64Gb eMMC) as DISCONTINUED at their website. Anyone know why? So is BestBuy is the only place to get this Chromebook and there is only one configuration? Also, how is this compare to Asus Vivobook 13 OLED in term of processing power (media consumption). I'm torn between these two.

    Thank you for this video!! I randomly stumbled appon this online and this seems near perfect for what I want! I was looking for a tablet for mainly content consumption like TH-cam, Netflix, ect and was annoyed with the big black bars on iPads and other tablets do to their aspect ratios. I love that this one is 16 by 9! Compared to other OLED tablets of similar size, this thing is near half the price too!

    • @farishanafiah8461
      @farishanafiah8461 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well said. Most tablets regardless of OS is either 16:10 or 3:2 or even 4:3. It's definitely refreshing to see 16:9 as it is still the golden standard for mass media.

    • @GhostAcez
      @GhostAcez 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@farishanafiah8461 For sure! I was legitimately surprised to hear it was 16 by 9 and OLED starting at $400. This thing is a unicorn lol. I looked up some benchmarks and it's basically on par with a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE power wise which I think is pretty good considering it has a bigger and better screen, comes with a keyboard and costs less.

    Thanks for the great review and this have promoted me to grab the Duet 5 from my local best buy because my old macbook air broke. So far I am enjoying what Chrome OS has to offer and coming from someone who also have an android phone, I am just happy that Chrome OS is perfect since I can use the google play store. However I love using Microsoft Edge on all of my devices and I am having a problem installing the linux deb verrsion on this particular Duet 5. For some reason even after I enable the Linux in the Developer tab, and donwloading the Edge deb Linux software off Microsoft's website there is an error installing it. Is this because the Duet 5 is running a Snapdragon chip?
