So great to see the younger generation in this reaction videos experience the absolute stellar quality of Karen’s soulful voice and Richard’s genius compositions and arrangements. They both compliment each-other so perfectly.
@@williamjordan5554 Shane Ericks is pretty good, as is Abigail Mendoza... Keiko Toge even has a video with Richard Carpenter... they're all good at times, but cannot compare to Karen. I wonder if any of them will learn the drumset in order to further their imitation?
Sometimes when I hear her voice or see one of her videos, it makes me sad. She had such an achingly beautiful voice. The purest voice. This is who I grew up with.
over the years, many have said she sounded like she was sitting in your lap and singing to you and for ONLY you...... i believe her brother coined the word "PHONO-GENIC" (as opposed to photogenic) describing her voice...
I am 53, so have had a headstart on the Carpenters over you. So I that is why I enjoy your amazement and joy of hearing their music. Her voice, to this day, is very much hypnotic.
Wasn't this song in the movie with Richard Gere when he was young and he was in live in college and she ended up getting cancer and dying? Can't remember the name. I think it wad in the 70s.

My favourite Carpenters song..nobody could ever come close to Karen's voice..so lyrical..the deep tones are just brilliant..such a natural talent who we lost way way too early.rip
I hated the Carpenters back in the day because I was all about rock. But secretly I had a crush on Karen and I would listen to them when my friends were not around.
Mesmerising, Karen was an alto contralto with a 4 octave range but none of that mattered really because it’s more the soulfulness and emotions in her voice that hits the spot.
It's amazing to watch the reaction of these young kids to my generations music. It's nice to know they like some of it. Yes...we played real instruments in those days
She has such a beautiful voice. Love this song. Sure brings back memories from when was young. Thanks for the trip down memory lane with this old classic.
You nailed it when you said you felt you were in a whole different world. That is the best way to describe it. Just an absolutely amazing brother, sister duo with an incredible back up band. Fantastic song writing and arranging with a phenomenal lady singer. Timeless.
My fave Carpenters song. Her vocal is so heartbreakingly beautiful.. A littlle background on this song.. It was written by the late great Leon Russell and Bonnie Bramlett. Bonnie Bramlett did the original which was called "Groupie" and is a very soulful and a bit more adult in the slightly changed original lyrics.. Luther Vandross does a well know version of this too..
Dionne Warwick said it very succinctly when she died “never be another Karen Carpenter”, that was the truth then and it’s the truth now an amazing talent with their own voice and style! She is missed
Absolutely no one on the planet can come close to her flawless voice. The world was robbed of a timeless classic lady. Growing up with her music every single time she sang her voice gave and still gives me chills. So beautiful. You are greatly missed Karen.

Karen's voice is like when coming home from a long trip in the cold, you come home to such warmth and comfort. All the ingredients are there for the perfect voice. amazing.
Every reaction I see when listening to her music it starts with your eyes, they light up and get soft, the eyes are the windows to the soul. Then you get a smile on your face. This has happened with all the reactions before you even say a word. This is the affect her voice had on people, you went directly to your heart first when hearing her voice...which is a wonderful thing. Such a loss to this planet.
"I need to be in love" which was Karen's favourite song, and she said it several times in interviews. There is a video of her performing this song on the Bruce Forsyth show that always brings me to tears. She is clearly very sick by this point and you can just see the sadness in her eyes, and yet, it is one of the most beautiful redintions ever.
I took my girlfriend to see them in concert at Miami University, Ohio way back in 1973. They were fantastic! In my mind I can still see and hear Karen standing there singing, just like it was yesterday. I also scored a lot of brownie points with my girlfriend for taking her to see them!
Her voice was like no other. She had such a great range. I remember the day she passed away. I was a senior in high school. I cried so hard. Thank you so much for doing a reaction for this song. Fun fact: At first she did not like the song, and the voice you hear was the FIRST take she recorded this song. she was reading the lyrics from a napkin... the take was so perfect, Richard decided not to recording it again...
"One Love" is the song I keep coming back to through the years. "One love, in my young life, took me places I'd never been, now I want to live again................" Karen was a gift.
When you said,"I feel like I'm in a different world right now". That's what happens when you hear talent. Something that is missing big time in today's so called music.
I still get chills listening to this. So haunting, and so true, for so many fans who loved their own "Superstars", who wanted to believe we were loved back.

I was fortunate to meet Karen and Richard once. After a concert at UGa (in 1971 I believe), I stopped into a burger joint to grab some food. Karen and Richard were in there! It was unbelievable. My favourite song of theirs. Her voice is just effortlessly smooth
she was a Contralto, which is not common voice range.
They never had to do a retake of any of her songs. She sang it perfectly the first time. True angel.

The angels line up to take singing lessons from her!
Her voice was so pure and clear. I've never heard anything like it since she sadly died.
It is so sad she died not realizing how deeply loved she was. Her voice could melt a block of stone.
The number of different sounds she was able to pack into a single syllable added such rich textures to her singing. So sublime.
