During the remainder of this interview, Gary Newborn explains to Gerald he’s rated as number two in the world pound for pound. May I ask who’s number one?
Somewhere I heard an interview that Gerald was having blinking episodes from just a jab in some training sessions before the jackson fights, then the hard hits from julian. I think in the interview after the first jackson fight Gerald said he had a terrible headache.... he clearly had some issues going on already
Hi folks. Lets take a trip down memory lane. On the 25th February 1995, Gerald McClellan met a 31 year old Blackman from the U.K called Nigel Benn. It was to be the most punishing fight of McClellans career. His opponent Nigel Benn was not a boxer. He was a notorious bar room brawler who intially took up boxing as a way of managing his anger. Coupled with his anger issues, Benn had a reputation for being one of the dirtiest fighters. After much hype, the fight got underway and McClellans came out in his usual explosive style. After knocking down Benn in the first round, Benn somehow got back up and proceeded to trade blows with McClellan. Benn was not in the same class as McClellan, but somehow he miraculously stayed toe to toe with McClellan during that fateful night punching McClellan throughout the following rounds. Benns punching delivery was sloppy and his footwork dodging was shabby. But his punches miraculously still connected! In contrast Gerald was fast, super co-ordinated and classy. Both men traded good punches complete with their contrasting styles. Benn employed his trademark dirty tactics by rabbit punching McClellan in the back of the head in every round as the tv footage clearly shows. Sometime during the round 9, McClellan sustained a serious brain injury from Benns punches and he started blinking heavily as he was in pain. His gum shield started hanging out and he started breathing erratic as if he was struggling to get enough oxygen. He movements slowed and he started backing off but he kept his guard up at all times. The round ended but McClellan was visibly hurt. During that round McClellans punches had suddenly become sloppy and apart from the exception of the odd punch, they were just not connecting. A bloodclot had formed in McClellans brain from the gruelling punches he had received. Both men were very tired but Benn, despite his sloppy style, was now getting the upperhand as McClellan was clearly injured. During round 9 Benn can be seen missing a punch but the sheer force of his punch made him fall forward and he headbutted McClellan who tried get out if the way - but McClellan was unsuccessful. Boxing experts have analysed the video footage and have stated that this accidental headbutt made things worse for McClellan added to the fact that his condition was already getting worse due to the brain injury he sustained sometime during round 9. McClellans punches clearly confirmed in the ringside video footage had become sloppy and his movements had become slow. His gum shield was hanging out and he can be seen blinking as if he was in pain. His breathing was erratic as if he was struggling for oxygen. He nevertheless continued. In round 10 Benn came out and after the two men were trying to punch eachother Benn caught Gerald with two punches. The first punch made McClellan go down on one knee but he got back up. The second punch 20 seconds later made McClellan go down on one knee again and the referee stepped in because McClellan made no effort to get back up. McClellan remained down on one knee and the referee began counting down. To everyones shock, McClellan allowed himself to be counted out. The fight was over and McClellan staggered back to his corner and sat down on his stool. IT WAS A FATEFUL NIGHT AS WITHIN 2 MINUTES MCCLELLAN FELL INTO A COMA WHILST STILL IN THE RING FROM A TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY. HE HAD ACTUALLY FALLEN OFF HIS STOOL. So there you have it folks. Gerald was the boxer - Benn was the brawler. But Benn possessed the volcano heart of a lion - and somehow he miraculously managed to pull of one of the biggest upsets in boxing history!
If you read all of this you just read a load of nonsense with very little fact. Gerald didnt have a stool he slumped to the apron and that's where he stayed, gerald started to spit his shield as early as round 2
If this is an official channel that he will benefit from lets get his subscriber numbers up! I've heard they are raising money for a stem cell treatment for him!
Gerald McClellan was another fool of Don King. He was a member of Kronk gym, trained and managed by Steward, sparred with Hearns, up until the Benn fight when McClellen decided to fire Emanuel Steward and hire one of Kings boxing hustlers Stan Johnson who fought as a light hvywt. His career record was 40--4. FORTY LOSSES, FOUR WINS. After McClellen he managed a stable of fighters with the worst records of any pro fighters in the country. Every one he guided to a losing record. King played McClellan $250000 for a fight with 14000 paid attendence, 17 million paid TV viewers
Yeah, he was real deal in the ring. And outside the ring too, it seems to me. It's pretty unusual to see how polite he is, cause most of boxers don't behave like this at all. Many of boxers looks like marginals and dumpass or something, but Gerald acting like true gentleman and also just a smart guy
@@kelseyfairbrother7247 no one deserves that, you are a maniac if you think so, this sort of thing proves that dog lovers are fanatics and tree huggers. Benn was a worse man that McClellan without a doubt.
I watched this about ten years ago and the last line of the interview has stuck with me, 'pitbulls remind me of myself, just a real aggressive dog'. Said it in such a genuine and natural manner - come from the soul.
I was also a big fan of Gerald McClellan (in the ring), but what he used to do was tie labrador dogs four legs up with duct tape defenceless and set his pitbulls on to them so 'they could taste some blood' which was bang out of order.
For everybody saying he killed dogs, yes it’s true he did kill dawgs and it was fucked up. Not enough fucked up however to wish this man to die or be glad what his outcome was. Gerald was an excellent boxer and his current state is an utter tragedy, we all make mistakes in life some of us get to fix them and some of us don’t. Have some respect to the man, the world turned its back on him

i'm sure that all boxers try to reach the back of head are crazy and dirty and they cause serious injury, they say a lot of different things but this what happen to all boxers in this situation, gerald was winning easily he went in killing spirit and his face look like skull when he was fighting he didn't try to reach the back of other boxer head
My fights never go past 8 rounds that was the wrong thing to say at the wrong time he jumped up the weight devisions to quickly he went from light middle to middle to super middle knocking every one out in the process and he never gave his body time to adjust to the new weight I think this was a factor as well as his injury in the ring it was a tragedy what happened to him he was a killer in the ring and he wasn't a very nice man outside the ring with the dog fighting ect but take nothing away from him he is probably one of the most devastating knockout artists ever
Look at his body going into this fight he didn’t look in good condition and barr the first few rounds he didn’t look sharp and he’got rid of manny steward .
A lot of fighters say things to come across as 'tough'. Did you see his pitbulls? They were english staffies. He was a classy boxer

I went to this fight with Benn don king if I remember called Gerald mini Mike Tyson at time of fight to this day I've always said when fighter gumsheild virtually hanging out mouth something wrong upstairs in head trying to take air in never been at fight since then. Used go Benn fights EUBANK and Steve Collins
G MAN ❤
During the remainder of this interview, Gary Newborn explains to Gerald he’s rated as number two in the world pound for pound. May I ask who’s number one?
anthony Walton, Number one was Julio Cesar Chavez.
@@stuartevans1398 Not at that time. It would have been Pernell Whitaker who really beat Chavez in 93', either him or Roy Jones.
@@peacefulbliss1 Just for the record...Whitaker did NOT beat Chavez.......He escaped Chavez. There is a difference.
@@redled2677You mean, Chavez is lucky he escaped with a draw is more like it.
I seriously think there was summat up with him before the Benn fight
The 2 fights he had with Julian Jackson are probably to blame - Jackson was a murderous puncher and caught G with some good shots
Somewhere I heard an interview that Gerald was having blinking episodes from just a jab in some training sessions before the jackson fights, then the hard hits from julian. I think in the interview after the first jackson fight Gerald said he had a terrible headache.... he clearly had some issues going on already
This makes me sad.
Damn I didn't know you like boxing I saw you comment on my channel before 😅

I love the Fighters, but the don kings and Panama Lewis types in the sport make me Sick
The G-Man!
He refused to listen to Emanuel Steward his mentor .
Warrior
Yeah, he was real deal in the ring. And outside the ring too, it seems to me. It's pretty unusual to see how polite he is, cause most of boxers don't behave like this at all. Many of boxers looks like marginals and dumpass or something, but Gerald acting like true gentleman and also just a smart guy
User,, Most boxer's are gentleman,,, and their the most genuine people out there.
Hard to watch. He could’ve been the best
Very sad watching this knowing the tragedy that awaits him
@Shawn Sterling he deserved everything he got !!!
@@kelseyfairbrother7247 no one deserves that, you are a maniac if you think so, this sort of thing proves that dog lovers are fanatics and tree huggers. Benn was a worse man that McClellan without a doubt.
Cast away
I love this guy.
Have some respect to the man, the world turned its back on him
Nope, if you murder dogs for fun, you deserve a life as a cabbage.
I'll show him as much respect as he showed them labradors
May your sins be your judgment@@diehard21000
he's very intelligent.
Does anyone know at point in the fight he was technically brain damaged?
Sean Turner maybe before the fight he was been blinking even in training. also that mouthpiece was loose Al the time . gman won by TKO in the first round. the ref step in while Gerald was hitting a semiunconsius Benn that is call TKO
before the fight.. he basically was already brain damaged and still almost beat Benn, that's a true Warrior
The clash of heads when Ben stumbled and into him.. it's a Hard old game.
@@EXPOSEDBYGABRIELPEREZ Gman did not win on a first round tko. Benn made it back in in time and came back, that was Gerald's fault he could not finish him.
It's hard to say, Ben was lighting him up with hard punches from the second round onwards do it could've been at any point from the second to the tenth round.
i'm sure that all boxers try to reach the back of head are crazy and dirty and they cause serious injury, they say a lot of different things but this what happen to all boxers in this situation, gerald was winning easily he went in killing spirit and his face look like skull when he was fighting he didn't try to reach the back of other boxer head
I haven't
what
They said at the time this guy use to let his big bulls rip apart Labradors just for the pleasure of watching
@davidcoomber4050
"big bulls?
*LOOOOL!!!!*
"They said"
Enough said
Clown 🤡
G Man. Get busy.
My fights never go past 8 rounds that was the wrong thing to say at the wrong time he jumped up the weight devisions to quickly he went from light middle to middle to super middle knocking every one out in the process and he never gave his body time to adjust to the new weight I think this was a factor as well as his injury in the ring it was a tragedy what happened to him he was a killer in the ring and he wasn't a very nice man outside the ring with the dog fighting ect but take nothing away from him he is probably one of the most devastating knockout artists ever
dude walked around at 175-185 he was Killin himself tryna make 154 n 160
@@branb1483 i 100 percent agree he should have always been a super middleweight him draining himself to make weight did not help him at all
He went to the dogs.
So sad
This man had total dissrespect for Manny Steward and paid for it.
Gerald was the best with his trainers to keep in shape, up until Don King came and ruin it all
Look at his body going into this fight he didn’t look in good condition and barr the first few rounds he didn’t look sharp and he’got rid of manny steward .
You could tell after the 6th round hee had a problem hee wos fighting for hrs breath
Thas said what happened to him 🥲
he used to feed little dogs to his pitbulls. tied them up so the ycouldnt fight back... even fed live pups to his pitbulls..
bob bob so what.. and you go hunting and kill innocent deer every fall, what's the difference?
A lot of fighters say things to come across as 'tough'. Did you see his pitbulls? They were english staffies. The articles all over the internet say that he took his two 'savage fighting dogs' everywhere together. If they were fighting dogs he wouldn't have them together on a leash just chilling with him everywhere he went. Use your brain a bit.
Nah...nahhhhh NOT SO WHAT. NO....I don't hunt for shit. If you excuse that behavior then f you. If he actually did that, I HAVE ZERO SYMPATHY FOR THE ASSHOLE. and as a matter of fact, I hope he suffered.....if he did that.
That being said, if he didn't, I have so much sympathy for him and his family.
@@adenmartinez434 if you meat then you're no better than he is, have ever seen a slaughter house or how cows and chickens are treated?? so stfu and stop judging
this man was involved in dog fighting , he was a nasty piece of work and also said he wanted to put benn and benns dad in a wheelchair , lol carma bit him in the arse .
Gerald McClellan is one of the best middleweights of all time, he would've crushed the likes of Hagler, Duran, Leonard and Hearns.
Idk bout hagler. Hagler was a tank and never touched the canvas
Agree with Dave: The others maaaaayyyybeee. Hagler, nah.
Not about haglar bt all others you are right
lol. No bloody chance.
He looks like he has some neurological twitches in this interview already.
how can you tell?
This guy was a killer
No more drowning dogs, good boy.
Ronny Schlips shut up.. so what.. and you go hunting and kill innocent deer every fall, what's the difference?? go play in traffic you hypocritic

He was classy fighter until he fought Nigel Ben. But nevertheless i wished he was able to fight again

Big deal. Dogs are not exactly an endangered species.
I'm so happy Benn turned you into a vegetable!

People trying to say gerrald had mental issues before the fight with benn, didnt seem to have a problem here..
He just could'nt keep up with Benns stamina and durability
If wilders team didn't throw in the towel then fury would've done to him what benn done to this man.
