Isn't it kinda funny that doom when it came out was a hard game to run that you needed specs for. And now it's literly running on a computer built inside a video game.
I think the main difference was, that despite how difficult it was to run, it was way beyond what most other games would have been like. I.e. it was highly optimized to take advantage of every bit of.processing power it could squeeze out of a computer. That's why it can run on practically anything.
The NASA , instead of sending a golden disc to the space , they should have send a WAD with instructions in how to install doom in whatever alien computer they have. ... Hopefully aliens know that we are a race full of doom guys and never come to earth.
I've recently listened to an HFY story where in a post-apocalyptic galaxy everyone survived of scavenging ancient technology, and the humans were this very sought after techno-priesthood who alone could operate most of the stuff safely. It awesome to see how much the cpu you’ve built have progressed, this is a huge improvement from the MPU 4 you built just a few years ago. Bravo 👏 Modpunchtree.
Truly it can run on ANYTHING… graphing calculators, fridge water-dispensers, Macbook touch bars, raspberry pis, IBM mainframes, and now a virtual computer in a cube game.
Only a matter of time before there are physics simulators or fully modeled and textured scenes using this computer. It already has the computing power, it might actually already have enough rom and ram for it too. I would try to make a program for it myself, though as of recent years I haven't really touched anything other than lua, so low level programming is pretty outside my comfort zone
I don't think so from what Mod said, this is just another program that can be run on IRIS. The only way this could be improved would be if they spent time making hardware specifically for this game, which I doubt they will, or if they added a GPU to IRIS, which seems like a daunting task but I look forward to seeing that.
while i have mixed feelings about the new retextured dust displays, it is still a very impressive build! i am curious how fast it could be made if it used purpose built hardware rather than a script on a general computer, though development is easier on a computer like that
