idk what version of minecraft you're using, but you could use an interaction entity instead of a villager for the win button to make the gun not kill it, but still kill other mobs
1.19.3, bit of an older version, however that still wouldnt have fixed the issue. an interaction entity is an entity, the gun was coded to kill any entity that wasnt a player. so it would have included interaction entities. Just a silly mistake on my end

The reason for weird asset names is because of a limit with the filesystem MS DOS has, it couldn't handle names longer than 8 characters, so whoever made the .WAD for doom may have been just used to the 8 character name format, or that might have been a limit with the .WAD format. So no they were not being edgy when they named their textures.
Hey doom mapper here, there's a program called SLADE that allows you to cut open the original doom WAD files and export all the textures if you want It also shows prerendered maps of every single level.

The Display Entities from 1.19.4 would have 100% made recreating E1M1 much easier for you since not only can you do some ridiculously wacky stuff like freely rotate, animate, resize and contort the Display Entity's model but it also doesn't cull like an item on an Armor Stand's head, at least in my experience using them.

If you wanna make the deathmatching even more accurate to Doom, I know a few things The pistol does random damage. Thsi damage can be 5, 10, or 15. The bullet capacity is also 200, and increases to 400 when picking up a backpack. When starting an episode (or respawning in this case) you start with 50 bullets. If you end up wanting to add more weaponry, the chaingun is basically just a faster firing pistol. If you wanna recreate the shotgun, it shoots seven pellets in a horizontal line, each doing the same damage as the pistol bullets. Shotgun holds up to 50 shells, and 100 shells with a backpack.
BIG "UNF" ENERGY. Although unfinished. I started my addon with multiplayer in mind too, which is the main reason i chose bedrock. And i can finally redirect people here whenever they ask me for a java version..
Honestly I want a mod with Duke, Doom, Wolfenstien, Blood, and Shadow warrior. With all the building blocks textures, guns, and character strengths, enemies, that would be awesome.
You know doom is really eternal when you can play it on a dang pregnancy test. An interaction gonna go like: "Honey, I'm pregnant!" "Babies are temporary. DOOM IS ETERNAL."
It wouldn't be as seamless, and would make the body that's left behind look really weird, I tested that originally and it wasn't working. So I swapped it to this method

2 of the best games combined. I love it. (It would be awesome if there was a glory kill mechanic like the remasters but it amazing either way)
For those interested, the reason doom can run on just about anything is related to its tiny size, and only really requiring a CPU for all its' needs
And the fact that the source code is readily available.
